This is one the place I would recommend tourist to stay in. It's close to Flinders Street Station. The Attractions Places are just walkable.. Swanston Street, Melbourne Central, South Bank.. and many more. The rooms are clean, spacious, amazing view of Flinders street (if u get front facing room), cable TV with countless of channels The most interesting for all... More

Stayed here for 2 months for an academic trip. The place is clean, concierge is very nice and helpful, the common room is warm and it got billiard table and cable TV with countless of channels. But the crowds around these part of town can get a bit rowdy sometimes, there are many times when I have to go home... More

Apartment 106 which I stayed in was dirty, run down, sloppy and noisy. My favourite part was the sticky tape holding down the floor boards but even more charming was the air conditioning unit that connected to the window via a pipe which had come undone so I got the full force of the people smoking outside the café across... I holed up at this UniLodge for two months when I immigrated back to Australia and was waiting for my household goods to arrive via ship from Canada and then clear Customs. It's OK if you're a student with low expectations. The bed was not good, thin mattress, no sheets/blanket. I wound up sleeping under my bath towel because I... More

Having been to the Australian tennis open for a number of years it's getting harder and harder to find reasonably priced accomodation during that time. Surprisingly, I saw Hotel Unilodge on Flinders advertised for $99 (compared to other hotels - even the budget ones was at least $150) so I thought I'd give it a try. I had stayed in... More

In Dec 2009, I travelled to Melbourne for the first time to attend a group Christmas party and also to see Green Day at Rod Laver Arena. So my partner and I made a weekend of it, and a whole bunch of my friends also made the trip from Sydney. We wanted to be as central to the CBD as... More

Stayed over the new year period for a week in a studio apartment. Clean, good accommodation but a but run down - could do with a paint job - but overall very clean. Only downside was the staff - who were un helpful, not friendly, and really just didnt care at all. Had a few problems with them not passing... More

Booked four nights for the Grand Prix in March 2008. The location cannot be beat, right near Flinders Station and Federation Square. We booked a twin studio room which was a good size. It had two single beds, a couch and a mini-kitchen with sink and cooking facilities (although we tended to eat out so we didn't use them). The... More

I stayed here for a long weekend with some friends. Another person in our group made the booking, and when we got there i was really happy we were staying there. The location is fantastic, just by the trams and across the road from flinders st station. It's also super near to swanston st and fed square. the staff were... More

I stayed here for a conference at Victoria Library. The swanston outlet was fully booked, so I made do with the Flinders. One downer was reception. I reached the hotel at around 10pm Australian time, and saw that the doors were locked. This confused me -- how was I going to check in? I had just come off an 8... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
