The saying that a room is too small to swing a cat in, doesn't even begin to explain the size of this room. We were promised a King bed, instead we got 2 singles pushed together. On one side of the bed it felt like you were sleeping on springs and the other on wood. The pillows were uncomfortable and... More

Very convenient to Southern Cross station, Etihad Stadium and the party scene (if that interests you!). Third time I have stayed here and rooms are small, clean and have good amenities. Other reviews make mention of the noise from adjoining rooms and the street, this is noticeable, but not too disruptive to a reasonable nights sleep. A handy place to... More

Although this is a new and well appointed hotel in Melbourne, there are some problems with the rooms. First of all, they are quite small (we had a junior suite). The lighting is amazingly poorly designed. You either turn on all the lights (and shine light on the TV) or sit in the dark. The bathroom light is on a... More

I asked what the noise level is in the room and the woman said there are double glazed windows. I heard no street noise at all, but what I did hear was every door slam in the hallway. I think it's time to get double glazed walls and doors. The tv is pretty high up and there were hardly any... More

Stayed one night, the King Size Bed dominated the room but the bathroom was good size and room was located at the back so limited traffic/street noise. Also clean. The included Breakfast was basic, the hot stuff on offer was uninspiring but the range of cereals and coffee were sufficient. I found it cute that they have a sign up... More

Clean and modern hotel with comfortable, cozy and spacious room. Welcomed by very attentive staffs. Nothing to complain about the breakfast. Situated in very good location and definitely will stay in this hotel every time we visit Melbourne.

We booked this hotel based on the cheapest ground package price offered by one of the travel agents here. I was sceptical when i read the reviews in Tripadvisor. But since we planned to walk around and make full use of our time in Melbourne, we didnt need expensive hotel just to sleep, bath and change. The hotel is located... More

We booked with Hotel Sophia based on the reviews in Tripadvisor. We were in Melbourne for the Australian Open. The rooms are clean but small, just enough to space to sleep & store your luggages. Bathtoom is very small. Hotel is in walking distance to Kings Cross station. City Tram- which we found very useful is just on the street... More

I stayed here for 2 nights and would have no hesitation in staying again. Situated only a couple of streets from the CBD and major train station (Southern Cross) the room was .. cosy. It wasnt huge however it had everything you would want for a short trip to melbourne such as desk, bathroom, storage space etc.. The price also... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
