Stayed for two nights in December. Room not too bad, a bit small. Bathroom so so. It was handy having the bar right there. We were not keen on the location as there were several strip joints close by and walking at night was not a great idea. Lots of police action, sirens and yelling drunks for both of the... More

The receptionist was singularly unwelcoming. The reason for the "free" breakfast was because you couldn't have given it away. The Internet was down for two consecutive days, and the staff were not the least concerned or sympathetic. It's great to be able to open the windows, but the traffic and other noise is awful. Pay a bit more and get... More

I found Hotel Sophia through Web Jet when booking my flights from Sydney. The hotel was very clean and comfortable. The folder in my room stated the bar opened until late and room service was served until 11pm. I came back around 9pm one night and didn't want to search for food. I called down to order room service and... More

My husband and I stayed for 4 nights. We found our room was very clean, the King bed was comfortable and we really enjoyed the breakfast that was included every morning. Hotel Sophia is not far from Etihad stadium and Southern Cross Station so it's very easy to get around the city from here. The staff were very helpful and... More

I booked this hotel for three nights from 22. - 26.11. and was disappointed right from the start. Staff not the friendliest. It's a budget Hotel, but not a 4 Star Hotel. Far too pricy. The price must have gone up over that weekend. The room was clean, but small and the bathroom had not decent light to apply makeup. Squeaky... More

Very basic but great value fur money! Rooms were very clean which was most important and decent continental breakfast. Bit noisy in the morning when cleaners were cleaning other rooms and could have better lighting. But would stay again :)

My wife and I are travelling/working in Australia for a year and booked at Hotel Sophia for our first few day in Melbourne. The staff were very helpful and we enjoyed the tea & coffee in our room. Breakfast was lovely and our room was quiet and very comfortable. We are happy we chose this hotel and would stay again.

Booked online on Hotel Sophias website. They charged the credit card 4 times 4 different rates. Called the hotel to sort it out. We were blamed for the mistake even though there is no option to book 4 rooms. We asked to cancel 3 and were told to reply via email which we did. Hotel Sophia cancelled all 4 rooms... More

AA1 .. value for money. All staff we encountered were extremely helpful, happy and attentive. our room was excellent, clean & roomy. double windows made road noise non-existent. excellent position in town... close to public transport, dining etc. will definately be staying again as a victorian country visitor.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
