Stayed three nights and found the room very comfortable and quiet. Everything we needed was provided and the kitchenette was useful. All staff very helpful and friendly. There was a good choice for breakfast which was efficiently served. The hotel is not in a very lively area but is a very short walk from the Southern Cross station where the... More

First time visit to Alto Hotel on Bourke. Had to do the ring around for a room in the CBD that could accommodate a family of 5, but did not want to charge top dollar executive apartment prices or split my family up into separate rooms and hit me for a home loan repayment for staying just one night. I went for the weekend and took my sister to attend a Melbourne storm Presentation night.. we were on the second floor Room 204. You could have heard a pin drop.. Some people complained about the noise from the trams, so would recommend booking a room away from Bourke street.. Staff went out of there way to assist us...great breakfast... More

First the good things: super helpful staff, both on reception and in the restaurant who provided great customer service. the room was very well equipped, the kitchenette & laundry made it a great place to stay with a toddler. Breakfast was very good too. The not so good things: We didn't know Melbourne at all, if we return, I don't... More

Great to see our friendly guest service team are spot on with our service standard. The guest laundry is quite helpful for those not staying in our Superior or deluxe apartments that have their own washer/dryer. There are some good dining options and bars in the nearby including our own at Alto which provides room server for dinner. There are... More

This place is petite but has everything surprisingly available what their guest would need. It's located just few stroll from Melbourne CBD. The staff are friendly and never had no for an answer. Well done everyone of the staff who all made our stay pleasurable and memorable right from our check-in to the check out.😃 You all deserve a pay... More

This hotel was very convenient for us as we caught the express bus from the airport, straight to the bus station across the road from the hotel. It's a little walk to the shopping area but only a few blocks and still convenient to the free tram and the river with Southbank and the casino on the other side. Our... More

When we arrived at the Alto, we were early, the office staff stored our luggage and allowed us to stay in the coffee lounge, and then they let us know when our room was ready! The coffee lounge is amazing, there is a coffee machine that allows the guests to have either a takeaway espresso or hot chocolate, also there... More

There are no surprises staying at The Alto. Everything was very good. Very Clean and excellent customer service. Beautiful Breakfast. The only downfall was the coffee at breakfast. Unfortunately we are spoiled with nesspresso at home. And at The Alto the coffee which is serve yourself is ordinary and to out taste quite weak. But this is only a minor... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
