Stayed at this hostel for 1 night and 1 night was to long. Building is very dated and old with a dark gloomy atmosphere. Bedroom was dark, dusty, cold and in need of major TLC. The view out of the window was a brick wall. I had arrived after a long night of traveling and I wanted to sleep ASAP... More

The room I was put in on the ground floor was worn and not the cleanest - it was obviously old and in need of some TLC. It did the job for a couple of nights. Room was next to the outdoor courtyard/smoking area, so quite often smelt of smoke when the window was open. There was an old, very... More

Nomads has bed bugs! I stayed in a private room with my sister and woke up covered in bed bug bites. What is worse is that they have followed me back home. Now im having to scramble about trying different remedies to get rid of them.

I stayed here for two nights at the beginning of March, and everything about the hostel was just about okay. The reception was 24 hours, but some staff weren't even trained to know where the hostel was on the map, and none were forthcoming with recommendations/tips/helpful pointers etc. Eg No one mentioned you had to put your card into a... It's a huge hostel, impersonal, the smallest kitchen(and dirtiest) I have ever had in a hostel. The fridge broke down one day, without anyone knowing. When we complained, because our food was inedible, the stuff has not taken us seriously. The rooms are dirty, the fan was broken (40 degrees outside, 10 People in the room, little tiny window) and... Stayed in November, worst place we stayed and we were there for 2 months. Dirty, kitchen and bedrooms, don't even get me started on the toilets. Awful. Reception weren't helpful and didn't seek to find answers if they didn't know. Do not stay here if you have a choice.

Arrived here late October. After a long coach ride from Adelaide we arrived at Nomads around 9am. Understandably we couldn't check in until later which was fine however we were advised this was as the room was to be given a 'good clean.' We waited around for hours until we were allowed into our 14 bed dorm. The room was... More

This hostel is more like a hotel for backpackers, it's beautiful. Room We stayed in an 8-bed dorm and we're so so lucky with who came in, they were all absolutely lovely, which was the case for everyone we met at Nomads Melbourne. It was very clean, dry, and although the bed was really creaky it was comfortable. There's no... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
