Stayed here for 7 nights in February, travelling alone has never been an issue before coming here people aren't social and it has a very cold university feel to it, bearing that in mind the rooms are the comfiest I have stayed in, very clean , quiet and had 7 nights of really good sleep

Very good location, friendly staff at the reception but otherwise behind the competition. The building, rooms and facilities have no charm, our stay reminded me of some school camp in 1992 - it all just makes it relatively expensive. The place needs a makeover which brings it to 2014 and more LOVE, there are more innovative options in Melbourne. At...

This is the second time I'm staying at this hostel. Great location, quite clean and friendly staff. Door lockers needs to be maintained as you have to swipe the card many times for your door to open. I'm somewhat disappointed that they hadn't solved the issues with WiFi as such a large hostel in Melbourne CBD. It was exactly the...

Overall the hostel was ok but having been given 4 star rating when we booked we did expect more. Wifi is free but the connection is terrible! We kept going to the Internet cafe on Swanston St and therefore having to pay! The kitchen is tiny, there was no space in the kitchen to store any of our food in...

I've stayed in many backpackers during one year, but trust me, the Greenhouse backpacker is the best backpacker ever ! Everything looks new. The kitchen is big with at least 10 fires to cook, you have plenty of pans, saucepans, plates... The kitchen is being cleaned twice a day, but it can't help people leaving their dishes in the sink...

Greenhouse had a lot to offer in terms of the activities going on at the hostel. On my first day I went on a free tour of Melbourne with Molly who showed us the hidden laneways and best spots to shop and eat which was great. They also offer events nearly every other day/night, including a free BBQ on the...

Stayed here for about 4 nights. Location is pretty easy to find, strategic as it is located in the middle of the city and to know that there is a police station downstairs, you'll feel safe, LOL. Overall, it's a positive experience. I like the bathroom. Many many cubicles and pretty clean. No need to wait too long during peak...

Stayed here for 5 nights in January, and would definately stay here again! Good central location, friendly staff, and the hostel was pretty clean too! Found it really easy to meet people & would reccomend going on the pub crawl with Molly! Was heaps of fun! All in all was a great stay, nothing bad to stay & would stay...

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
