"free wifi" = only at reception and only from 10-4 and its so poor that checking emails took 20 mins read the terms and policies! if you cancel nights, the cancellation fee is always 1 night (->if you cancel 1 night, you dont get anything back, independend on time) and most bookings cant be canceled at all because of some...

I think a lot of effort is put into making Discovery Melbourne a fun, comfortable place for backpackers to stay. The beds a comfortable, there is cheap food and free food, the bar has fun themed nights, the staff are polite and friendly, it's location is central and there is some free WiFi during the day. For a young person...

Checking in was already a nightmare - got told my my booking didn't exist. Upon showing them the booking ref of my group they said it was all booked under the same name even if when booking each individual name of the occupant was inputted - not sure what the point of all that is if they can't even see...

Was able to check in really early as we had arrived earlier than anticipated with a bus. The staff were friendly and rooms were clean. The overall hostel was good, wifi was a bit touch and go in the main area but this was mainly due to the amount of people on it at one time.

The place had a great vibe an there were options for catering for yourself or purchasing food. Basic breakfast included that you make yourself in the kitchen. There is a rooftop area and a DJ bar with cheap drinks. Surprisingly quiet for New Year's Eve.

The location is not very central but it's alright. Not many choices for breakfast but it's free, so no complain. Rooftop bar was great. Clean rooms. Made some new friends. Staffs were fairly helpful. The lockers there were very expensive tho. It was alright.

This hostel favors quantity instead of quality. Staff is not very helpful and sometimes a bit rude as for example the entry card seldom works properly. The rooms are solid but I had a room where they did not even have enough plugs for everyone. The kitchen is a hige chaos and mess! The price is ok and its location...

It could have been a 4-star if the room I stayed in wasn't boiling hot. Wi-fi needs improving but for the $24 a night price I guess it's acceptable. Apart from that, I like the hostel's busy atmosphere and the disco bar. The staff are helpful/friendly - Shoutout to Trish, one of the security staff who looked after me when...

The staff were very accommodating but had to queue for 10 minutes to check out. No free wifi in rooms at any time but limited wifi in the lobby between 10-4. Very clean room but no air con and was baking hot all night. Lots of people decided to sleep in the lounges in front of the big fans due...

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
