We booked a Studio Executive room for a two-night stay. The hotel is in a great location for country travellers, right next to Southern Cross Station, but the excellent sound insulation meant we were barely aware of traffic noise. The room was very caomfortable and had everything we needed. Our room wasn't available right on check-in time so the manager gave us a very nice bottle of red to compensate for the short wait. A great place to stay at a reasonabel price
This is a tired hotel that is unloved and you feel like you're walking around an abandoned building rather than a hotel. The grand staircase shown on the website is NOT part of the hotel - only for permanent residents access. The entrance, through a car park, is untidy and needs updating. Reception is two desks in a big room, linked to the library which is tiny and in the reception area with broken lamps and few books. No dressing gowns in the room as advertised. No movie channel and limited wifi per day (not free as advertised). Restaurant smelled of toilets and had a huge hole in the ceiling. Hallways are wide and long but empty of a single piece of furniture or paintings. Pool access through a laundry area and there's a car park as the view. Pictures on website are deceiving. No one loves this place and you feel unwanted too. Beds were comfy though! Apartments spacious.…
Had always wondered about what the Grand Hotel would be like inside and to stay so took an opportunity as a couple and tried it. On arrival it felt warm and bright. We were met by great staff and had been upgraded which was wonderful. The place was spotless and felt grand. Our room was lon opening warm, arge with a two level arrangement, chocolates and a bed to die for. Later we met Dennis and he made us feel like we were in a second home. We dined in the restaurant that night and Dennis dropped by then returned with complimentary desert cake that was very good. The room was quiet that night and relaxing. On book out again super friendly service from Dennis and his team and on requesting to leave our bags while we day tripped was not an issue. This is definitely a great place to stay especially if you want a warm reception. Terrific value so thanks again Dennis and your great team.…
This grand old building is ideally situated for easy access to the CBD, Southbank and South wharf as well as dock lands. Denis is a great host who will do his utmost to ensure a great stay. Huge rooms, 2nd time we have stayed there this year. The 4th floor corridor has to be seen to be believed.
Denis was so lovely and welcoming and the room lovely and large - only wish I had more time to enjoy it and the pool, sauna etc were also great to use- the personal touches of hand written card and quality choccies on arrival were unexpected and very kind. Facilities great
I have found my new go-to place for staying in Melbourne. Living in regional Victoria, overnight stays in Melbourne are a regular occurrence for me. The Grand Hotel is a beautiful building, with wonderful staff, great location and super comfortable rooms. Looking forward to the next stay.
Amazingly convenient location, and a grand hotel indeed. Splendid original architecture, large rooms with everything we needed. The personalised care and service was second to none. We’ll be back, and we’ll bring our bathers next time for the heated indoor pool!
My friend and I spent a girls sports weekend here. The hotel is beautiful and the location is amazing with only a 1 minute walk to the tram lines. Denis and his team were all lovely and very welcoming. The spa and pool area are also a great bonus. We had a very large room with three full length mirrors outside the bathroom (handy for 2 women getting ready). I will definitely be back! Thank you!
We totally enjoyed our stay and were made feel welcome from the moment we entered this amazing historic building. Friendly personalised service the extra effort providing hand a written welcome card, quality chocolates and fitting in a rollaway bed at short notice was greatly appreciated. Denis was very accommodating and provided us with a wealth of information and provided customer service over and above our expectation and this what makes you want to return. We will most definitely be staying at the Grand Hotel on our next city staycation.
Very professional and welcoming staff who's primary focus is ensuring your comfort and safety. A lovely note, quote and choccies on arrival also made us feel very special too! Beautifully refurbished historical Railway Building, the Executive Suite was both delightful and roomy for our overnight stay. Very close to Crown, DFO and a pleasurable walk to the heart of the City for NGV and ACMI, Fed Square etc. Very impressed, we will definitely be back for more City experiences. Thank you Denis & Staff.
