What used to be a great hotel has turned in to a run-down disaster. Denis left a beautiful welcome letter in our room which was a nice touch.... But I quickly glanced around the room to see this room desperately needed to be refurnished and renovated. We paid $350 a night. I understand they are trying to keep the old charm. But giving a family a room with broken floorboards in the kitchen and damaged seating is not acceptable. (see photos) I tried to speak to Denis before we departed to make him aware of our disappointment, but he wasn't available. I have emailed the hotel to see if they thought our room was at a 4 star rating? But they haven't answered my question. As we all feel the cost of living is rising, I feel like we have just wasted our money. My guess is because we had two young children, we were given the worst room possible which is complete discrimination.

An amazing experience at this Hotel It is in an awesome old railway building, extremely well maintained. We were kindly given an upgrade and had a wonderful suite. The heater worked well. Everything was clean and in good working order. The staff were very helpful. The Indian restaurant onside was wonderful. Only small downside is there is no breakfast onsite. There are heaps of options nearby though. Thank you!!

We always find our time at the Grand positive and 'down to earth'. Dennis is always up for a chat and a laugh. Plenty of space in the rooms with old world charm. Location is excellent for the many attractions of the CBD. This has become our regular stop off in Melbourne.

Very impressed with our stay here. Conveniently located near Southern Cross station and tram stops, yet a quiet location. Large spacious room in a grand old building with a hallway that seems to go on forever. Incredible high ceilings. Although we didn't use the kitchen facilities, they would be handy for self-catering accommodation. Nice touch of a handwritten welcome note and chocolates. Disappointing that the restaurant wasn't open for breakfast during our stay, but we were directed to a nearby cafe which served the purpose. Would make this my first preference for a stay in Melbourne CBD.

We stayed at The Grand Hotel Melbourne for around 10 nights in August over 2 separate bookings. Before we leave for Tasmania, Denis asked my son about his stay after 2 nights in the hotel, my son told him that he was abit upset that there was no stairs in the room, which he was anticipated for when we showed him the picture of the hotel we booked before our travel. After that, we went to Tasmania for 6 days, upon our return, we were pleased to know that Denis upgraded us to the 1 bedroom apartment which has a stairs up to the bedroom. Denis and all the reception ladies were so nice and friendly. They are always there to help and make sure we enjoy our stay. Their efforts in making the guest feels at home will not go unnoticed. The room are spotless and the bed is super comfy. The apartment comes with full function kitchen with kitchenette that we can make simple breakfast everyday. Another plus point of this hotel is that they have a laundry room where we can wash our dirty clothes and dried them. I went home with a lugage of fresh clothes, I do not need to worry about getting my laundry done when I reach home. Staying in The Grand Hotel Melbourne is 1 of my best hotel experience, Denis is so passionate in running the business. I would highly recommend this hotel and we will definitely stay in this hotel again whenever we return to Melbourne. Great efforts and thank you for the warm hospitality.

Great hospitality and the rooms were very comfortable. Location is ideal to the convention centre with trams and train station less than 5 minutes away. As such it can be a little noisy but you soon get use to them. We will certainly stay again.

Huge thank you to the hotel staff, in particular the manager. I've stayed here a couple of times - great location, beautiful hotel, clean and quiet. This time I had booked months in advance but needed to make an adjustment just before arrival. The manager went above and beyond to ensure our stay was a positive one. Thank you so much, will definitely be staying here on future trips to Melbourne!

I generally write a review well after leaving so as to gauge the entire experience. I’ve been here 2 hours & I’m ready . I’ve stayed here many time due to the great location, close to great public transport, a walk to the shopping streets, huge rooms and the quiet that only comes from old solid buildings . The rooms are extremely comfortable with great kitchens in small but well thought out studio rooms . I once lost a bag of expensive jewellery here . The staff went to huge trouble to find & return it to me, so I’m grateful returning customer . Though with so many very good hotels the Grand holds it own on all levels . It’s also not high rises which I love . My visit today was another Grand moment ( excuse the pun ) . We arrived quite late and were greeted by a lovely helpful man who assisted with parking. He then sat me down & we had a brief but pleasant chat with a few much appreciated suggestions give to someone who knows the city well . This gentleman left no doubt that he was waiting on our arrival greeted us by name, with patience & a concern only that our check in would be quick, smooth and all our needs would be met. Having just left hospital ( he didn’t know that ) it was the perfect mix of professional informative welcome & the comfort of arriving home . We were quickly in our extremely cosy room where I soaked in a bath. The products supplied were delicious, just the treat need . I then notice on the table a hand written card & a bag of chocolates- my day way getting better with age . If feeling at home & comfort are important to you look no further than the Grand Grand Hotel . As Denise quoted Oscar Wild on the card “ those whom God loves grow younger “ . I’m expecting to wake you & be 30 !!

What a charming old hotel, right in the middle of Melbourne. Next to Spencer Street Station (for the Airport Shuttle), walking distance to Flinders Street Station and the South Bank/Casino. The rooms are well appointed, with a full kitchen. The important things - the bed was very comfortable, the room was sounded proofed and the shower was great. The bonus was the very personable Manager, Denis. He couldn't do enough for us, and is the epitome of customer service. The onsite Curry Restaurant is pretty damn good, too...
