We chose the Windsor because it was close to the Theatre. It was just perfect. Room was spacious. Hotel was like traveling back in time. Loved the decor. Staff friendly and welcoming. Would recommend this Hotel.
Arrived on a Friday and then called reception at 03:45 to ask if our Suite (430) was next to night club. The receptionist indicated that there is a night club opposite but only busy on Friday & Saturday. The Assistant Manager offered us a larger suite 107, at an extra cost, for the rest of the week which we accepted. Due to the abundance of Yanks who clearly frequent Melbourne you need to ask for “sunny side up” instead of a fried egg. The chances of you actually receiving a breakfast as ordered is remote. A simple request of having the toast delivered on separate plate is far to difficult to manage. The TV system reminds you of the days you had to ask a relative to move the aerial until the picture was good and then hold that position. Whilst I appreciate the hotel is of historic interest it cannot be beyond the wit of man to provide electric sockets next to a bed to charge a phone. When asking the Concierge for a laundry bag do not be surprised if they suggest it can be found with the laundry list in the wardrobe as if you are a total moron. Please don’t forget to remind housekeeping to replenish any water you may have consumed the day before otherwise it won’t be. The same housekeeping are amazed and confused at 08:50 when you ask for the laundry to be collected despite the fact that it clearly states that laundry collected by 09:30 etc A hotel where the bar is closed Sunday & Monday is also surprise. I would normally mention the lack of a restaurant in the evening but suffice to say Melbourne has an abundance. So let’s not pretend that The Windsor Hotel should really re-opened as a museum.…
Old Melbourne at its finest. Really gorgeous old hotel. I note many people have complained that it's dated but nothing so bad that it didn't detract from the charm and splendour of the place. Many famous people have stayed here over very many years and if it's good enough for George Harrison then it sure is good enough for me. The bed was large and very comfortable. Gorgeous wide corridors and wait till you see the spectacular staircase!! Everything was clean and serviced to perfection each day. The staff were efficient, friendly and helpful. We liked the location, right opposite the beautiful Parliament House, trams just a one minute walk away. Many eateries right there on Burke St. Close to Fitzroy and Collingwood too. There's a great cafe right next door (Excello Cafe) that do an old fashioned breakfast with very reasonable prices. I would definitely stay again and definitely recommend. Ohh and don't forget to ask for bathrobes, they are sooo soft!.…
Great weekend in Melbourne with a large group of friends. Stayed at the Windsor. Check in was easy & staff helpful. While the room wasn’t large it was more than adequate with a good bathroom, walk-in closet & comfy bed. Breakfast was included in our rate & was very good. Staff friendly & helpful. We organised a special dinner. Food was great & once again service was superb. Will stay again
Fabulous location, bed very comfortable but for a 5 star hotel I found a few things lacking. Upon checking in I was asked how much my earrings cost as the staff member had a friend who would like them. I checked in on a Wednesday and checked out Saturday. My room wasn’t serviced until I asked at 2pm Friday. I spoke to a staff member on my floor who said to phone 9. I went to reception to request my room be serviced, to be told they were getting rooms ready for check in so it would be done after that. At 3:15pm a person came to service my room (which was done very quickly). Upon returning to my room I found my door left ajar by the staff member. For a 5 star hotel I expected the service to be better.
$710 for the Windsor Suite??? Expected better for the money. Strict checkin at 3pm. Asked for an extra hour on checkout and was told it would cost $100. Did not choose an extra hour obviously. No one to greet you at the front entrance? Only one lift working. Corridor to room was awful as was the door to the room. The room was quite dated and not particularly well furnished. Windows were filthy and there was quite a bit of street noise so no double glazing. Bath had been painted but the paint was chipped. Shower over bath, hand rails were in the bath and are quite battered and the taps need replacing. There was no where to eat as the Cricketers Bar was closed on a Sunday/Monday so we ordered room service was mediocre. Thought we were having breakfast delivered to the room but no, we were told to go to One Eleven for breakfast. Breakfast was ok with one slight hiccup. Ordered black pudding but didn’t receive it with the breakfast and the tea pots looked like they had seen better days. Staff at breakfast were lovely. Left early as we just didn’t want to be there any longer than we had to. Very disappointed. Choose any other hotel in Melbourne as this hotel is not worth the effort or money…
On the night of our stay 21st July 2022 room 414 we had a very extraordinary experience around 11.30pm. Just before going to sleep our bed started rocking like on water! For about 5 seconds the bed was moving and we thought maybe an earth tremor or quake. Same thing next morning but shorter, twice. Maybe Parliament station trains? Very weird, told reception they just laughed and said maybe a ghost. Has anyone else experienced this?
The check in was not very polite and took $300 out of my card for “incidentals”. Can you imagine spending $300 on your mini bar in 3 nights? Anyway it wasn’t just a hold they actually took the money. Then because I booked on bookings. Com they tell me they can’t give it back to me. Or they say they can but they haven’t and it is 6 days ago. Barely warm shower and indifferent staff. I have stayed here a lot over the years but never again.
I have been coming to the Windsor on and off for many years and sponsored corporate events there. On this occasion we had no choice but to book at a very high tariff- weekend and my birthday - but what concerned me more was the indifference of staff ( not front office) towards us as guests. Once every effort was made to make you as a guest feel special and welcomed. Not so now. Perhaps this is the Covid world. It was also irritating that we were unable to make a direct booking - told it was fully booked - but found one through Trip Advisor. Sadly we will look elsewhere on our next visit.
Booked this hotel for the queen long weekend. Beautiful place if your in to antique Was feeling eerie when we arrived in the room 419. Heating was very outdated. Shower head leaking. This room needs a lot of work. Stayed two nights, but the second night was so cold. Had to check with reception if heating was working. Apparently was not working properly. I was in shock when they offered a small heater and blankets. I transferred to another room and was newly renovated and with self control heating. High tea was great. The tea mug was hot and the handle too. Hard to pour as well. Staff very attentive and helpful. I don’t want to scare anyone but the place was scary. I will not be coming back to this hotel.
