We stayed up in the city last Sunday night because getting back to Mornington by public transport would have been impossible. The Great Southern Hotel was only $83 for the night, for a family room, which consisted of a king bed for me (being a king and all.) and a single each for the two children. The room was large...

Great location. Right in the heart of Melbourne CBD. Pulic transports like trams, buses or trains within walking distance. Skybus will take you to Tullamarine Airport at Southern Cross train station which is 200m away from the hotel. Also, you can find coaches like Firefly, Greyhound, etc... adjacent to Skybus stop. Hotel staffs are friendly and helpful. Thank you.

The location was perfect. Close to station which is what i needed! But the room? If i had to stay there more then the quick one night (I wasn't in it other then sleeping) i would have upgraded instantly to elsewhere. Cheap, which is good , if you can deal with no windows in your own private little dungeon. Also-...

It's located very close to the Southern Cross station together with a few more expensive hotels so if you need to get to the station early, this can save you some snooze time. The hotel consists of a few blocks joined together so to get to my room in the 'first floor' I had to take the lift from G...

One of the finest hotels that I have stayed at. You have Pay TV as well as choises for a video package if you want it. The rooms are excellant and the staff are very friendly. My room was attended to each day. Rooms are excellant and it is conviently located. The hotel is great value for money.

Terrific location just 5 minutes from crown casino and etihad stadium plus all of melbournes best attractions. You get what you pay for- rooms are tired but I've stayed in worse. Reception staff were a bit disinterested.

Stayed for two nights, great location to main station 2 minute walk, close to the river and 10/15 min walk to Central shopping area. Staff were friendly and helpful. My only complaint would be the charge for wifi. In this day and age I think hotels of a certain standard like this should offer free wifi. Other than that, a...

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
