Great location, probably none better for catching a show, or being central to pretty much everything. However its showing its age, tired restaurant and bar area, rooms are getting old and worn. However its well priced for Melbourne, you can certainly pay the same or more and be in worse places. If your more about the value than the finishings,...

Great location to shows & restaurants, with easy access to trams and trains to explore the city. You can also easily visit the markets and southbank,we decided to park the car underneath the hotel and use public easy access transport

I've stayed here twice recently and just looked up my review from nearly 18 months ago, and I still have pretty mixed feelings. The hotel's in a good location and it isn't outrageously expensive, considering the price of all hotels in Melbourne. On both occasions recently, the Wi-Fi didn't work and now I see this was a matter I mentioned...

I recently spent a short stay at the Rydges Melbourne. It's conveniently located, close to theatres and ready access to the tram line for free travel around the CBD. The hotel itself was clean and efficient. My room was a good size and comfortable, though the air conditioning was a bit noisy at night and I had to turn it...

Travelling a lot for work it is a struggle to find good locations to stay when the family are along. This hotel is a little tired but it has some very nice features also. The rooftop swimming pool is first class and the staff are pleasant and helpful. The location is fantastic, near the trams without the noise at night...

Hotel is ideally located up the nice end of the city. Easy to move around and the room itself was great. Air conditioning was noisy but everything else great including the staff. The great end to a working life of relaxing and start of an enjoyable retirement.

The hotel is in a good location, close to shops, restaurants and the theatre. The rooms and bathrooms are quite tired, however the beds are very comfortable, it was quite warm in Melbourne when we stayed at the weekend and we needed to run the air conditioner which was very noisy, it wouldn't be ideal if you are a light...

We did not stay at the hotel but those who did said it was very comfortable. We were guests at my friends wedding, with the reception held at Rydges. The room was set up beautifully and with a big window across two thirds of the room it felt open and yet still held intimacy due to the lighting and decorations....

Staying in Chinatown

Neighborhood Profile
Chinatown
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
