Not happy with the state of the room unclean floor in some spots, the dishes werent all clean, no conditioner, even the shampoo wasnt full, the owners of this establishment obviously take no pride in their joint, the only good thing was the freindly staff which should just be a given regardless of wherever your staying so thats saying something... Great location to access the Vic Markets, along with the motorcycle shops. Short walk to Lygon street for dinner. Spacious room, could do with a bit more cleaning. No toaster in the room. Car parking is very tight and not suitable for vehicles over 2m high. I called as we where in the city early and got early check in... More

I was taking the kids to the city and surrounds for a sightseeing weekend so was just looking for somewhere to sleep on a Saturday night. Review below: Location Location wise it was fairly good for us as we went to the museum so were able to walk there and back. It's on Franklin Street so not right in the... More

My friend and I travelled for a music performance and shopping, so we weren't going to be hanging around in the hotel very much. However, when we entered and had a look around, I would have been comfortable pottering around the room. The bathroom was so clean and new, with a huge mirror. The beds were soft and with adequate... Stayed here with 6 friends over 2 Superior Apartments. The location is great, just around the corner from the Queen Victoria Markets and within the free tram area. The rooms are not the best. They are clean but very run down and with cabinetry is chipping away and not maintained. The double bed is 2 singles pushed together so the... More

First of all, this was my first experience in a so called "serviced apartment". I'll start with the good part: - in central Melbourne, walking distance to Queen Victoria Market where you could source fresh produce and souvenirs. Since we were doing our own cooking, this was an excellent choice - As a group we stayed in all the types... More

To start with, our room stunk of smoke as we entered. Not the fault of the hotel I guess, but obviously no attempt to get rid of it before we arrived. Most surfaces had to be wiped down before we could use them. Pumpkin soup enjoyed by the previous guests?! This was also the case for the cutlery and crockery...but... More

The Nova Star Gate apartments are good value, we only had the one night but the rooms are set up for the extended stay with a good kitchenette and a 3/4 sized fridge and microwave, the rooms have a small dining setting and a two seater couch the bathroom had a bathtub and was of a good size, if you... After reading all the reviews of this place I was terrified of what our room standard might have been. When we walked in I was pleasantly surprised. The room itself was clean, however the bathroom needed a lot of TLC. There was a lot of street noise all night. But this place is okay for a short stay if you're... More

This place needs some TLC, and refurbishment. We had a two bedroom apartment and, although it was very clean, the apartment was just adequate. Both the kitchen and bathroom were pretty basic. It is well located, being just a block from the Queen Vic Market. The receptionists were very friendly and helpful. At just under $200 per night, I'm sure... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
