A very basic room - clean... Not much else to say - need to sit on bed to watch TV - a sofa or armchair would help but there wouldn't be anywhere to put them! Currently doing renovations so hard to find a quiet part of the day to catch a nap. Very convenient location - 2 minute walk to... More

Had one night already booked but with short notice I had to arrive a night earlier. I made my way from the airport to this hotel to see if I could book and stay a night early as well as the next nights booking. I was offered a room but at a much more expensive rate (almost double!) and staff... More

Dear nojmik1, Thank you for your review. The last minute rate is very different to the advanced booking rate. That is why in hotel industry, we recommend people to book as early as possible to get a good deal on your accommodation. If you were looking for a hotel near the airport last minute, it would certainly cheaper than our... More

3 stars: Basic, no frills, passable cleanliness (slight lingering occupancy smell) with old hydronic (?) heating system. Receptionists were very good and helpful, though - 4 stars? Pros: Main reason you'd pick this hotel - affordable and super-convenient location. Main cons: (1) Room freshness smell - 2.5/5 (2) slight clicking noises throughout the night, possibly from old hydronic heating system... More

Dear Lino_Montuno, Thank you for your comment. Our hotel has a long history. We indeed are still using central water heating for all rooms. But this is by far the most efficient, effective and saving energy way to heat in Melbourne. During our renovation, we will make sure the layout is put reasonable in the rooms. Sincerely, ibis Styles Kingsgate... More

I haven't checked out yet but so far my visit has been underwhelming. The staff are nice and helpful but the hotel is falling apart. It's obviously under construction and being updated which means lots of noise during the day - I was warned of this once I had checked in so I was aware but slightly annoyed it wasn't... More

Was clean and handy to the station. If you are given a room not up to the standard you expect go to reception and ask for another! We viewed our friends double room and that was great!!! Our second room was too!

Dear Jeannette F, Thank you for your review. The main reason you happened to this issue is because that you and your friend booked different room type, that is why you were in a standard room but you friends were in a superior room. Simply next time just book the same room type so that you would receive the same... More

Rooms were very small, windows were blocked out, walls were paper thin so could hear neighbours every move. We were not notified of the construction when making our booking which was very disturbing. Another room we had booked ended up calling reception due to noisiness of a neighbour and/or construction but nothing was done. Hotel was conveniently located around the... More

Dear P1588SYrachelw, Thank you for your review. Our reception opens 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. So if you need any help, in your case the noisy neighbors, just contact us, we usually give warning to the guests. If happened again, we usually ask them to leave. But we never know until you inform us. So please next... More

Big spacious room with comfy beds. For the price we paid, it is really value for money. Location is only 5mins walk from southern cross station, where skybus stops and most car rentals are located. 1min walk from tram station which is within free tram zone.

This hotel ideally located near Southern Cross Station. Tram stop was close and many restaurants were in the proximity area. The room was adequate for tourist traveler. The pillow required improvement as it was a bit hard.

Generally it wasn't a bad stay however the walls are a little thin and I could hear the snoring through the walls. It's a bit of a maze and the rooms are a little tired. Staff are very accommodating which was nice. The price was a little high for what it was however this is due to the time of... More

Dear Buderim73, Thank you for your review. We are happy to hear that our staff made your stay warm in this cold weather of Melbourne. During our renovation, we will definitely reinforce the sound proof system in all the room. During weekends or special event dates, it would be pretty pricey in the city of Melbourne. So we recommend you... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
