Stayed at this hotel before, so decided to use it again. Impressions of room not so good this time. As a solo traveller I think I drew the short straw. Had room on 2nd floor, which looked out on to the air con vents, which kept me awake most of the night. Think the water pipe for some of the...

This is the hotel to stay in for those who love to shop! So many shops within walking distance, DJ's next door and Myer next to them, and the Burke St Mall in the next street. China Town restaurants up the street when your feet won't carry you much further, after a full day shopping. The hotel breakfast will keep...

Found everything: location, staff, access etc to all be acceptable. The room, however, was very poor. Very tired, outdated. Paint peeling from walls, water damage all through bathroom. Shower busted and leaking (cold tap didn't work). TV didn't work (and was still not fixed after two days despite being alerted day one). It saddens me when hotels claim "renovation" and...

We were very happy with our room thank you, it was clean and all appliances were working fine. The bathroom was excellent having just been fully refurbished I think - the only tiny item was perhaps the lighting was behind the sink and mirror so made shaving a bit tricky. The bed was very clean and comfortable and we both...

We where booked into the Mercure Welcome Melbourne from the internet, when we arrived we discovered the room was not suitable as it was very small and dirty. We changed to the Grand Mercure which was a much better room, large and clean. It cost us an extra $60 per night to change. Location was excellent as it was near...

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
