This hotel is in such a great location, it couldn't have been better. Easy access to shops, restaurants, buses, trams and trains. We were disappointed with the size of our room, which was small and quite dark. We were on the second floor and our window was facing a blank wall of a high rise building. We didn't complain as...

We chose the hotel because it is within the walking distance of our important spots, the Queen Victoria's Market for a quick souvenir shopping, the Supper Inn for midnight congee on the Little Bourke Street, and the Sidney Myer Music Bowl for the concert. The room was small and simple. What I found surprising was the bathroom which was spacious...

If you can grab a good deal with this hotel, don't think twice. The location is great, very near the main shopping area, near trams. The rooms are modern and clean and the service is great. We requested for an early check-in and although it was not guaranteed, we were accommodated and checked in as soon as we arrived.

Location is excellent and the reception staff are always very helpful. It is great being able to call up reception to get the $10 wifi in room when you need it. Room was showing signs of wear and could do with a freshen up, but it has everything I need for short business stays.

Staff did not know when their own cafe closed. There was no room service. Rooms pokey and bathroom very small. There was a bath tub but very tiny, only big enough for a small child. I would not stay there again unless there was no other alternative. The breakfast the next day was mediocre.

Location: Right next to Chinatown and convenient to food and accessibility. Can be quite confusing as it has three entry points. The Swanston Hotel, Grand Mercure is connected to it (they share the same reception, but you take different lifts to rooms) Room: Upgraded from a Queen to King; they provided a disabled friendly room at the corner. Narrow pathway...

This is a good budget hotel right in the CBD but I found the rooms a bit too small - perfect for one person but a bit too squeezy for a couple - little room to move around - thinks of the small hotel rooms you get in Europe and this is up there with the best of them. Having...

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
