It provides basic needs for a quick trip to the city but I wouldn't recommend a stay any longer than a few nights. The rooms are tiny to the point of having to turn on the tap in the bathroom to mask the sound of bathroom ablutions (not great!). Sliding doors mean you hear everyone banging them shut from 530am.... More

Firstly, this hotel is in the perfect location for exploring Melbourne. There is a tram stop right outside of the Swanston street entry (there are 2 entries!) that will take you directly to Federation Square/Flinders street station, St Kilda and South Yarra. It's also right next to Emporium shopping centre and less than 5 mins walk to Bourke Street Mall... More

This was my first time at this hotel. Very efficient with clear communication and booking system I booked this hotel as an Accor member. The staff are very friendly, helpful and polite in every department. Baggage storage and overtime parking are terrific bonuses when flights are at odd times. Good restaurant for breakfast with fresh food being constantly replenished. The... More

Getting there by car is a bit of a struggle, looks like the main clientele are overseas tourists who would be arriving by Taxi or Tram/Train etc. but they do offer reasonable Self parking rates at a nearby parking station which was quite close (The do have Valet parking but at a much higher price). Breakfast was included in the... More

Friendly staff checking in and out. Housekeeping staff were helping and friendly - looking after our need Rooms finishes look old and required to be renovated

The Mercure Welcome is right in the heart of the CBD, with trams at the front door and within walking distance to all the theatres, 100's of eateries and so much more. Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
