This hotel is in a good position and offers value for money. The only downside is the RESTAURANT that requires a complete make over as it is very dated. The staff were very friendly and efficient. Excellent transport links in every direction from just outside the hotel.

We stayed 2 nights with this hotel and both nights were woken in the early hours of the morning. On the second night (early hours of the morning) we called reception and complained - they came up to tell our neighbours to be quiet - and we could hear everything word for word.... Unfortunately this did not stop our neighbours...

This hotel is in a perfect location for shopping and transport. It is also exceptionally quiet with a comfortable bed and my room was spotlessly clean although small and ordinary. The public areas were not kept as clean with litter at the Swanston St entrance most of the time. The television was a nightmare to operate. I had to climb on...

Its been years since I last stayed in this hotel and my recent stay didn't change my opinion of the hotel. The lobby and halls are shabby in appearance, so much so, you immediately think you are in for an uncomfortable stay. But that is not so, check in is friendly and goes well, the rooms are a good size,...

Room was clean and spacious. The food and service in the dining room was great value for money. The only downside was the noise from the crowd in Swanston St early of a Saturday morning. In future I would request a room which didn't face Swanston St if I was staying for a weekend at this Hotel.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Swanston last August/September. We had a great stay - hotel was clean, decent sized room and in an awesome location - We walked everywhere in the city and to the MCG. Inside the room was quiet and couldn't hear any street noise. Check in and check out was easy. Didn't have any problems...

We stayed here for 2 nights early January 2013. The stay was pleasant. Although it's quite old, but the room was nice & clean. Great value for the breakfast, kids ate free, though it's only standard buffet breakfast. Being located in the heart of CBD area, it's convenient enough to find foods from surroundings. It's a plus value. The only...

I have stayed here before. Love the location, you just step out the front door and can catch a tram or around the corner to Bourke St Mall. I appreciate the microwave and toaster in the room so that if you just want a light breakfast or snack you can make it yourself and save your appetite for diner in...

I found the people at the hotel very accommodating and the room was a great size and condition. If anything went wrong, which very little did, it was fixed promptly. Meals were good and location was very convenient for trams and eating establishments. We were staying over a very busy weekend but the staff still found the time to help...

For the location and the price it's hard to beat this place . I would stay there if your looking to explore central Melbourne . Great food and bars close by. The tram is out the front . Hard to beat it's location.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
