Neat and clean room with absolutely no view, very professional and helpful staff but a supermarket-long queue to the check-out. Car park options quite tricky. Neither positive nor negative experience. The location is great for the city walks and shopping. The best part of our stay was the rooftop swimming pool with an amazing panorama of the city.

Dear Joanna P, Thank you for your time in providing a feedback. Very pleased to read that you enjoyed most aspects of your stay with us. Our roof-top relaxation pool is indeed quite special, especially on a beautiful Melbourne Day. Sincere apologies for the delay on check-out. We hope to welcoming you back in the near future. You cannot get a better location for a hotel if you are going to Melbourne right in the centre of the CBD. The room are large, clean and very comfortable. The staff at reception are very helpful when asked directions directions to places. Chinatown is 30 metres away. Nothing more to say, just great, and the price is very acceptable.

It's a nice full service hotel with all the amenities. It's very clean & comfortable & well located, but no free wifi! Come on folks get out of he dark ages. I've had good free wifi from Cambodia to Zambia. Get with the times.

The room is big and clean but it is quite old. Noisy chiller in the room. Breakfast needs a lot of improvement. The quality of the food was very bad and no pastries available. To summarize, in my opinion it was very expensive for the given service.

Excellent spot for shoppers. Room very dated carpet bad condition bath worn. No personal attention. It was going through a self serve . Dinning are more like a school cafeteria . Very central for shoppers!

Not sure how this is a Grand Mercure. At best, only a Mercure. We had a twin double bed room and it was spacious. But tired. Nothing special. No extra pillows. Old bathroom. And a 7:30am housekeeping visit...they thought the room was vacant. We didn't eat-in, why bother when you have so many options available in the neighbourhood. If you...

Dear CanberraAussieMum, I'm glad the location of the hotel was ideal for your needs. It is certainly well placed for a shopping, theatre or sightseeing holiday. The close proximity to many of Melbourne's iconic eating and drinking establishments doesn't hurt either! I am sorry that the accommodation provided was below your expectations. In regards to the extra pillows, in the...

Stayed here after the Adele concert so we didn't have to deal with 75,000 other people trying to catch a train/cab/uber. For this purpose it was fine. The rooms are somewhat dated, but functional. Shower was great. Paperthin walls, could not only hear the neighbour on the phone, but could also hear the person she was talking to. Air conditioning...

Every time I go to Melbourne, I said i will change hotels as the isolation is so bad and the hotel really needs to be updated urgently. It is not worth the name Mercure anymore. The only advantage is has, is the perfect central location, and that is why i went again

Noisy with no evidence of sound proofing. In the middle of the city and convenient to every noise, all night. Buskers, trams and the hotel makes no effort to disfuse it. The location of The Swanston Grand Mercure is second to none for shopping and eating in and around Melbourne. All the big name shops are located just a couple of minutes away. It is so easy to shop, go back to your room and drop the bags off and then continue shopping. With the free trams in the city it...

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
