We haven't experienced the colour and warmth of Lygon Street, Carlton for many years but managed a three day break and selected the Travel Inn on a whim. The easy stroll to Australia's premier Italian street was ideal. The scope, atmosphere and pleasurable eating experiences was above expectations. We have enjoyed Roma's eateries but found Lygon Street a step above... More

Great location, right on Lygon St. lots of good places to eat and only 10-15 Min away from the CBD. The staff was very good and the romos very clean.. Not a facny hotel at all, but good enough if your plan is only sleeping there..

Stayed two nights on first floor. Room was clean a little on the small side but comfortable and close to where we needed to go. It was a little noisy at night hearing other patrons coming and going. There was a nice pool area. Tea & coffee facilities and a bar fridge. Flat screen TV and Foxtel. House keeping was... More

We stay here because it is close to our family and has easy access to the city. Terrific eating in Lygon St. Motel restaurant is good too. The desk staff and restaurant staff are always obliging and helpful. It is easy walking distance to Brunswick St shopping and eating.

We stayed with Travel Inn on a Saturday night and were able to book a single night stay which was refreshing in Melbourne. The rooms were quite spacious and very comfortable. There was a large choice of pillows to choose from. The shower was wonderful with good water pressure and large fluffly towels. The location is wonderful being just one... More

Excellent location rooms are clean and tidy, staff are pleasant, breakfast ok, great place to stay during off peak times, during peak times everything turns pear shaped be prepared to wait in line for twenty minutes for breakfast.

Stayed here post MCG football for one night. Despite other reviews, I found the staff friendly and welcoming. The rooms, at least mine was, are basic and small, but the bed was comfortable and everything was clean. Car Parking was included in my "package" but is normally $10 per night. Dined here only for breakfast, which is a basic buffet,... More

Have stayed here 6 times mostly for the location. Rooms are small, but clean for an old hotel, it's its not too bad. . Breakfast is always good value. Staff are not particularly friendly. Loads of great eateries in walking distance. As I said, the location is great.

This Hotel was chosen by my employer for an overnight business trip. First impression.......steps........lots of them, just to get to the door. On a rainy Melbourne day, they are also slippery, no assistance. There was no clear sign to direct guests to a ramp or disability entrance....in fact, I did not see a ramp at any point during my stay.... More

Terrible. Worst customer service. Trying to find out information was like beating a dead animal. Not clean. Hole in the wall. Housekeeping ignored my wishes to be "undisturbed" Highly recommend you choose elsewhere.

Staying in Lygon Street

Neighborhood Profile
Lygon Street
If you want real parmesan, cut from the block, grated over your pasta with a twist of style, this is the place. Until recently, this neighborhood was home to the notorious ‘Carlton Crew,’ a pseudo mafia who started their day with a local espresso. They are gone, but the espresso still runs strong in this Little Italy which has something for everyone. Starched white tablecloths, candles, pizza the way they do it "back home" and maybe even a bit of amore. The number of gelato choices will leave you in a state of indecision and wide footpaths, big awnings and a sea of packed tables makes this al fresco dining experience a continental buzz. Even if you’re not eating, it’s worth the stroll just for the people-watching, which, of course, is an Italian tradition.
