My partner and I spent 3 nights at this charming B and B and we both recommend it highly. The garden suite is very comfortable, perfectly clean and quiet. The location is very near restaurants and bars and not far from the fare-free transit zone in the central business district. The proprietor Ian is an amazing source of information about...

Some people like to stay in the fanciest hotels in the centre of town , 169 Drummond Street is a Bed and Breakfast not far out of the city centre, but better. I would not stop anywhere else, make a booking and find out why .

Without question the nicest overall spot we have stayed in in our 40 plus years of travel. Everything was a delight including Ian and his faithful dog Betty. It was perfect from the home to the location to the breakfast to the value. As to the previous review, I don't know what planet you folks are living on but on...

We really enjoyed our stay at this wonderful B&B! It is centrally located and an easy walk into the city center of Melbourne. An old historic building with tasteful furnishings and spotlessly clean! Ian, our host was very hospitable and accommodating and offered us many tips about getting around. His little dog Betty was adorable! The room was comfortable and...

Prompted by the positive reviews on TripAdvisor, we booked a room for a three night stay. We subsequently emailed Ian Johnston, the owner, to ask how best to travel from the airport after our long flights from the UK, which would arrive in the late evening: he responded, thanking us for our reservation and advising to get a taxi (rather...

We stayed for a week at 169 Drummond Streeet and it proved to be everything we hoped for. If you are considering a stay we can vouch for all the positive things other reviewers have mentioned here - exceptionally comfortable, well equiped, very clean and attractive rooms, excellent self-serve breakfast arrangement, easy access to the centre (tram and bus are...

We travel to Melb nearly every year but have always stayed in hotels - never again! This BnB is absolutely wonderful because of its location, provisions but most of all lovely host Ian who is welcoming, friendly and very accommodating. Our room was spacious and clean, homey and comfortable - hands down better than any hotel. The shower was so...

Just the best. I have read the reviews and concur with most. Very comfortable bed in a spacious room, en suite perfect with super shower, breakfast multichoice and set me up for museums and galleries. Ian is a great resource for eating places and how to get around Melbourne, make sure you ask him for a miki card. Great discussions...

Ian's wicked sense of humor and great tips on dining out "where the locals eat" contributed to a wonderful short stay in Melbourne for my son and I. The rooms are well appointed, the en suite generous, beds very comfortable and the central heating sublime. The Dining room is generously stocked with provisions and is a lovely place to start...

No need for me to repeat what so many others have stated, but I will reinforce the consensus. Perfect location. Lovely room with a great shower. No nonsense breakfast which is most convenient - it gets you started so you can make it to the QV markets. Ian and his gorgeous puppy, Betty, are great fun and exceptionally communicative and...

Staying in Lygon Street

Neighborhood Profile
Lygon Street
If you want real parmesan, cut from the block, grated over your pasta with a twist of style, this is the place. Until recently, this neighborhood was home to the notorious ‘Carlton Crew,’ a pseudo mafia who started their day with a local espresso. They are gone, but the espresso still runs strong in this Little Italy which has something for everyone. Starched white tablecloths, candles, pizza the way they do it "back home" and maybe even a bit of amore. The number of gelato choices will leave you in a state of indecision and wide footpaths, big awnings and a sea of packed tables makes this al fresco dining experience a continental buzz. Even if you’re not eating, it’s worth the stroll just for the people-watching, which, of course, is an Italian tradition.
