As Expected, YHA always hold a standard, same here in Melbourne. Clean and Spacious room, common room and staff that help with things a traveler need while checking in. A lot of amenities, and breakfast can be order for a price. Rooms were clean though basic, cozy place for lounging if needed, or just explore the surrouding with such centrally... More

This hostel is a total hit and miss in every area. Staff are either friendly or very unfriendly. Cleanliness above average. Mattresses are the worst in Australia. You never feel welcome as you are unsure about how the staff are going to treat you. Very uncomfortable beds.

This was my second stay at this hostel. I like the location, as it's easy to get around and close to Southern Cross Station. I stayed in a private room with bathroom, and it's perfectly adequate for sleeping. I would recommend checking your room location, as this time I was on level 1, and the room is next to the... More

The location is perfect for a YHA. Walking distance to Southern Cross Station and the Skybus, trams outside the door, Aquarium, casino and Melbourne's fabulous cafes and culture. Its nice to see an old, rundown hotel (Markillies) reinvigorated. Our twin room was very small but adequate for what we needed for a 3 night stay. The reception staff were really... More

When it comes to youth hostels this is as good as it gets. Keycard access is required for everything making it very safe. It's located right outside a FREE tram stop which gives you easy transport throughout the city. Everything is very clean and modern. Staff very friendly.

Plus side: - Perfect location - Knowledgeable stuff for insights / dinner - free tram stop in front of the building - nice leisure area Cons: - The team is very aggressive when it comes to engage ppl to take part in "social activities" (ping pong, pub tour, quiz). Guess, look at your customers and assess them. A very hars... More

Weekly events are hosted by the staff who are extremely friendly and get involved with everything. Very easy to meet people in the communal kitchen and dining room. Centre to everything easy to navigate to. Wifi only on ground floor and not in rooms but overall it's a great hostel.

Stayed here for a weekend with a girlfriend. We had a smaller room - single bed and a bunk. Shared with a lovely Canadian backpacker! Very clean, beds very comfortable. Best shower I've ever had a hostel - even topped some hotels and my shower at home! Only problem was getting the heater to work - it was a bit... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
