The best point is location, if you need to go to Southern Cross early or late, it`s perfect, because it´s so close and the breakfast was good. First floor is good, good bar and kitchen, my room was third floor, just 3 shower and 3 toilets, there are few, because there are a lot of room, about bed was uncomfortable, cleanliness really bad. I just recommend this backpacker if you need to stay close to Southern Cross otherwise you look for another one.
We stayed here in June. Staff were great, really friendly. We stayed in the basic private room which was nice and clean. There is construction on at the moment (as per their website) but only noisy during the day so no problems at night. Room is a bit cold but was warm enough overnight with extra blankets. Breakfast was good and filling. Really great location, very easy to get around Melbourne. Thanks!
When I checked out, I was uncomfortably forced to relocate the sheets I had brought down into the bucket which I couldn't find in the downstairs corridor where it always used to be located. This particular female staff was rude and unwelcoming about it to the point I would say she was unnecessarily bossy and unsuited to serving customers. As a returning customer I was very disappointed to have had an experience like such, especially when I did the right thing by cleaning my room and had actually brought the sheets down before leaving. Date checked out 2/6/20
YHA MELBOURNE CENTRAL is being very responsible during these challenging times.... ( Corona virus times) .... With new extra rules keeping everyone healthy and safe. ( 1 ) Reduced numbers in the dorms... (Two people maximum in a four-bed dorm ( 2 ) Two people maximum allowed in the lift / elevator at any time. ( 3 ) Reduced reception hours. ( 4 ) Social distancing laws are followed. Also at a great location for many, many things. Same standard as always. 10 out of 10.
Superb location on the fringe of the CBD. Loads within walking distance or hop on to the free trams. Very helpful and friendly staff and the hostel has a ‘good vibe’ with people of all ages chilling in a capital city. Certainly a good base if you need somewhere to put your head down for a couple of nights at a very reasonable price. Trams and trains are directly outside, so I’d recommend earplugs (they sell them if you forget) and rooms are small, but tidy and comfortable. You can have en-suite for not much more. Being a hostel some of the cleanliness is dependent on the guests attitudes around the communal showers/toilets. Our floor wasn’t too clever, but that’s just life! Would definitely come back when next in Melbourne
