I loved staying at the Astor. It is small enough to be very personal and friendly. The room I had was warm in winter without the usual air conditioning. Good food options on the doorstep. Breakfast room well stocked.

Right in the centre of Hobart and couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. It was boutique-y and quiet. Tildy was so great and actually had a personality and this is why I loved it there. I would recommend to anyone traveling alone who doesn't like hum drum normal.

Yep its a bit ( alot ) old fashioned - like an Agatha Christie movie you may well see a Poirot shuffling about, or out of the corner of your eye, a ghost of days gone by, sneaking around a corner late at night. The sound of Slippers on the Axminster. Yep it doesnt have " luxurious appointments" - nor... More

We stayed at the Astor Private Hotel for 3 nights before setting out to drive around Tasmania. We loved it so much that we booked a room again for our return night before flying back to the mainland. What can I say that hasn't already been said? It's an old, atmospheric hotel. I could picture my father-in-law, who was a... More

Lovely old fashioned, simple rooms. We didnt mind at all that our room didnt have a toilet but we did opt to have a room with our own shower. Very clean! Located in the centre of Hobart was such a convenient location. Service was lovely and cheap rates.. will definately be back! Continental breakfast was free of charge and was... More

We absolutely loved our stay!! Hotel was in a great central position, easy to walk to everything. Everything was spotlessly clean, rooms are basic but all that you need. Tildy was an absolute character and was so lovely to meet her! Such great price too with lovely continental breakfast included in the price. I can see why people keep coming... More

Stayed one night and it was pleasant, and the rate is fairly reasonable. The location is excellent, right in the centre of Hobart. Our twin room on the 2nd floor was pretty basic but clean and comfortable. Bathrooms are shared, but they seemed quite sufficient to go around, and we never had to wait. The light breakfast of cereals, bread... More

As per previous reviews, this is a simple, somewhat old fashioned but charming hotel in a great location for exploring Hobart. What makes the place is Tildy the landlady and if you have even a scrap of a sense of humour you will have a great time here.

This hotel is old and full of charm, great price and close to everything. Tilda the owner is the best value and full of laughs, it's worth staying just to hear her stories. Cosy lounge room where you can meet other guests and good breakfast facilities. Short stroll to the Salamanca market, wharf and restaurants. A must stay, real Aussie... More

Lovely old hotel. We had an ensuite room 2nd floor, very comfortable with small lounge. Exceptionally clean, bed made & room tidied each day. The Manager, Tildy, is a character & extremely helpful for any query you may have. No airconditioning, but fan in room. We found the unseasonal weather in Hobart more like Brisbane weather. The first few nights... More
