The Astor Private Hotel was built in 1912, it's been lovingly restored to it's former glory by it's owner, Tildy, who welcomed us with grace and humour. Our lovely room, on the 2nd floor, overlooked Macquarie St and boasted a queen bed, single bed, bench for suitcases and a place to sit and eat. The bonus was a plush couch... More

Lovely, quite quirky little hotel right in the middle of Hobart. Excellent service - because I was staying on my own the owner upgraded me to a better room with a beautiful big bed and a shower in the room. The whole place was really warm and cosy, and nice and clean. I missed the included breakfast after having too... More

What a treasure of a place. This is how hotels should be... personalised, friendly, full of character yet spotless and with all the mod cons (and free breakfast). You know those hotels you mix up because they all look the same? The Astor is the opposite of that. I can't wait for my next trip to Hobart, I wouldn't even... More

Well, the ladies who welcomed us at the hotel were very friendly, but they surely have a, let's say, special kind of humour. It was a very hot day and for my question if there are airconditioners I got the answer "This is Hobart, you weirdo" and for the question how far it is to the Salamca market the answer... More

I loved staying at the Astor. It is small enough to be very personal and friendly. The room I had was warm in winter without the usual air conditioning. Good food options on the doorstep. Breakfast room well stocked.

Had a lovely room with en-suite. Very comfortable bed. This is not a chain hotel which was great. It's a place full of character and characters. We stayed for five nights and used the hotel as our base for attending the fabulous Arts event organised by the Mona Art Gallery called Dark Mofo. A basic breakfast is included which makes... More

Right in the centre of Hobart and couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. It was boutique-y and quiet. Tildy was so great and actually had a personality and this is why I loved it there. I would recommend to anyone traveling alone who doesn't like hum drum normal.

Yep its a bit ( alot ) old fashioned - like an Agatha Christie movie you may well see a Poirot shuffling about, or out of the corner of your eye, a ghost of days gone by, sneaking around a corner late at night. The sound of Slippers on the Axminster. Yep it doesnt have " luxurious appointments" - nor... More

We stayed at the Astor Private Hotel for 3 nights before setting out to drive around Tasmania. We loved it so much that we booked a room again for our return night before flying back to the mainland. What can I say that hasn't already been said? It's an old, atmospheric hotel. I could picture my father-in-law, who was a... More

Lovely old fashioned, simple rooms. We didnt mind at all that our room didnt have a toilet but we did opt to have a room with our own shower. Very clean! Located in the centre of Hobart was such a convenient location. Service was lovely and cheap rates.. will definately be back! Continental breakfast was free of charge and was... More
