We are staying at Amberley House, it was not our first choice but a result of our original hotel being closed down and we didn’t realize this until 2 days before we left home. To change at this late stage in the week of Dark Mofo was impossible without spending a fortune. Having read the very divisive reviews and having experienced a few shocking hotels in the past we were ready to get our wallets out and move on. It looked like we were heading for a disaster but I am happy to say that Amberley House is really good! Our room and bathroom are spotless, warm and quiet. The heater does a great job at keeping the room cost and the shower water runs hot. The housekeeper is delightful and the concierge phone service was really accommodating and helpful. They are absolutely doing their best and I can’t fault it. As long as you understand that you check in independently with a code and that breakfast is a continental offering of tea, cereal, toast and yoghurt that you serve yourself then you will enjoy this well priced heritage property.

Very enjoyable and convenient stay opposite the Wrest Point Casino in Hobart. On a busy road but still quiet. There was no desk, but I was glad I had company because of that. Remote control check in but it worked. Bed was comfy, water hot, heater in room adequate, breakfast provided for the price.

Stayed at this hotel a few years ago with the old managers and owners running it. We loved it so much, we came back. New management have let the place run down to the ground. Rooms are filthy, smelly, airless, mouldy and in very run down condition. We couldn’t open the windows to get any fresh air and it was very hot in summer. The room smelt so rotten (sour milk rotting in carpet),and with no fresh air, we couldn’t sleep. Called the owner to ask to move to a different room on the phone (no staff on site) but after five phone calls over four days and no answer, we gave up. Disappointing as we had traveled so far and spent so much money to stay here. Breakfast was frozen, generic home brand bread which we had to find ourselves in the freezer. We could not find anything else to eat even though we had paid for a continental breakfast. Don’t stay here unless you would like to feel disappointed, disrespected and completely ripped off.

We found this B & B to be great. Good location especially for Wrest Point Convention Centre, much cheaper than Casino and very satisfactory. No, it is not modern, it is an old mansion with large rooms, high ceilings and serve yourself breakfast of cereal, fruit, yoghurt, toast, fruit loaf, fresh fruit and juice also available. The property was clean if in need of a little TLC (chipped paint, squeaky doors). We checked in somewhat late as we went via Port Arthur but no drama as they provided us with front door security code and our room key was in and envelope in the mail box for our room. Loved our stay.

I don't think the photos used for the advertisement reflect the actual state of the rooms. In the room we stayed in the carpet was very stained, the walls in the bathroom had mould on them, the paint work was chipped and the room smelt. There was no air conditioning, the bed was uncomfortable and we hated being there. There is breakfast advertised- fresh bread and filtered coffee- neither existed. If there was a kitchen we never found it - all the doors were locked. We were there four days and never saw the hosts. The rooms are only serviced every three days- we were advised by the cleaner that this is because it is such cheap accommodation. We paid $180 per night - I don't consider that cheap. Do yourself a favour - stay elsewhere- for the same money I think you can do a lot better.
