The location for this hostel is excellent. However, that's really about it. I chose a private room for 3 nights as city hotels were looking at $600-800, this was $180 (so a bargain). However, I got to the hostel at 7:30pm, reception had shut and I had to call for some one to let me in. They ask that people, use a night door (from early on). This was shady little spot with a dodgy lock and men smoking outside all the time. Inside was EERIE. Long corridors with random middle aged men stood around. I asked when I checked out if people live here and they did. It didn't make me feel comfortable. The room (98). Comfy bed / clean smelling linen. However, the room is BARE. No mirror. Just a bed and a plug in heater (which worked a treat). I found there was constant noise at night - it sounded like a band / a movie / organs and bells. The window was so thin and rattled all night. The carpet was putrid, but it was even worse in the corridors. Showers were clean - but heaps of rules stuck up on how to use the bathroom. One toilet door didn't lock. Bring a towel - or you have to hire one.

Rules plastered all over the walls with fees for anything you do wrong. $50 for losing your key, $20/hour for missing 10am checkout time, $200 for having a friend over and immediate eviction for doing laundry. The hostel has very little vibe with weird common areas that don't seem to be conducive to conversation. This might be what they're going for though as they have rules against parties, alcohol and noise. The dorms and kitchen are relatively clean but bathrooms often are not. There are plenty of hostels in Hobart, stay somewhere else.

Good. Comfy bed, good price, good location. Friendly staff plenty of lounge areas. Lady at reception very friendly and polite Other residents polite and respectful and quiet. Plenty of power points in the room. Bad. As a Tasmanian I had to pay a $200 deposit because of my address? I was fortunate to have access to $200 but considering that this is a budget place I do wonder how many people have a spare $200 laying around, and I had to have a room inspection before I got my money back ? I felt like a 36 year old in boarding school.(also feel this is discrimination against locals). Not many mugs and cups in the kitchen. No ovens but plenty of hot plates, microwaves and toasters. The shower even after running it for a few minutes wouldn't heat up. Room very empty a bedside table might have been handy. The kitchen is closed after 9pm till 7am so to bad if you want a pre bed warm drink or have an early breakfast. Not sure if I will be back but glad to have tried it out. And the reception lady was kind

Loved this room with the three single beds in a female only room. The bed was comfy and it looked like the bathrooms have just been renovated. The kitchen is well equipped, perfect for a quick breakfast or dinner in the evening. Staff was friendly and helpful too.Highly recommend it !
