Heron Island Resort offers an excellent base for exploring the beauty and diversity of the Great Barrier Reef, as well as offering a variety of informative guided walks on reef and land. We loved the scuba diving and the friendly professional crew that managed our dives. At sunrise most days we enjoyed live entertainment at Ballies Bar with Tony and... More

A very tired resort and the premium rooms are extremely over priced, nothing in them, not a TV, a cup of tea, one variety, perhaps, for over $750 a night?? The actual island is stunning, albeit the diving not as good as expected and issues with the lack of 'help'. The food very ordinary and the wait staff mainly transients,... More

Heron Island Resort is an ecological sensitive destination which provides relaxation and excitement for the whole family. We went in July when there was horrid weather but still really enjoyed ourselves. We were actually stuck on the island for an extra day because the seas made it impossible for the launch to leave. The resort gave us the extra night... More

This was my third time in the Great Barrier Reef. Although I have been to Cairns and Hamilton island, Heron Island is most definitely the best place in the Great Barrier Reef I have stayed at. We stayed here for 3 nights and we loved every minute of our stay. Positives: 1. Colorful coral reefs with AMAZING snorkeling and diving.Saying... More

What a holiday! Heron island is a stunning very small coral cay situated some two hours by boat from Gladstone. The ferry staff are truly amazing showing outstanding kindness and humour to patrons with sea sickness. Rob was really our hero on forward and particularly return journey. We can't thank him enough. The island has entrancing white beaches and crystal... More

We had just spent two weeks with my husband's family in Gladstone and went to Heron Island for a two night get away. We wish we could have stayed longer! The activities during the day keep you busy--but they are well worth it. We did the snorkeling, the semi-submersible boat, and the sunset cruise. All were incredible. We liked that... More

We stayed for 4 days in August 2016 with a family of four including 2 older teens. We enjoyed our stay very much. Heron Island is more like a nature camp than a resort. The food and accommodations are not luxurious, but the location and access to the reef is what you go for. Our family room was well laid... More

I've just returned from 3 days on Heron Island with 2 Italian friends. We travelled from Sydney and the trip takes a whole day, and the boat trip from Gladstone to Heron Island was very rough and a lot of people were very sick! However the return trip was smooth and very comfortable! The Island includes the resort and a... More

We had a week on the island earlier this month. Our (Reef) Room was basic but very comfortable and clean with nice views to the sea through the trees. However, the rooms are not private, with adjoining verandas stepped out and in so as we moved back and forth to the beach we could see into adjacent rooms and vice... More
