We planned a 5 day holiday but my husband experienced a health problem while snorkelling and almost drowned. We left via helicopter to Rockhampton hospital. This had nothing at all to do with the place. It was unfortunate and likely due to fainting from a pacemaker adjustment that was not suitable.. The Heron Island staff were FANTASTIC!!! Every person showed... More

The deeper your pockets the better. Heron is lovely and if you haven't experienced the Reef is a blown away experience. The Reef rooms are a bit tired and need a spruce up, they don't seem to have changed since P&O owned the resort 15 years ago. The "capitive audience" vibe comes home to roost when the final bill is... More

A perfect spot for the enjoyment of the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef and the bird life of a coral cay. An all-too-short tour of the island's research station was a highlight. This is not a place for water-skiing! Leisure activities are compatible with natural assets of the island's location; it is these assets that give the place its... More

This was our first trip to Heron Island. I wasn't quite sure what to expect as I'd heard varying reviews. I was told the rooms were run down in need of a refurb... but I felt quite the opposite. We stayed in a turtle room which is the cheaper accommodation on the island. The room was great roomy, comfy bed, tea... More

My family and I visited Heron Island in September 2016 for a week and were thoroughly impressed. It is important to say from the start that the traveller should take the right attitude to get the best out of their stay. If you are looking for 5 star luxury with all the trappings this is probably not the place for... More

We had a(nother) superb time at Heron in Sept 2016. No internet, mobile phones or TV, just wonderful snorkelling, beautiful beaches, plenty of reading and family fun and falling asleep to the sounds of the birds and the sea.

I'm pretty sure this was our 8th family trip to Heron Island since our first in 2004? As per every other visit, we're planning to return again one day. It has something for all of us and we love it. Again, the service from the dive staff in the Marine Centre was outstanding and we loved all of the diving... More

Being right on the reef, Heron Island is amazing. A hop skip and jump from your room and you are snorkelling among corals, fish, turtles and rays. If you want you can jump on a boat to snorkel/dive the outer reef. The accommodation is great - good condition, clean and functional but not 'swish'. The lack of mobile service or... More
