A GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUNK AND STUFF ON CAMPING. 3AM first night an intense low pressure trough hit. The wind swung south-west and intensified. My tent site was now on the exposed side of the Dunk spit camp area – for the next 3h it rocked and rolled. Threatened to take off for Cairns. So first light I switched to... More

It's an easy 30 min/$35 trip to Dunk Island but the swimming and snorkeling opportunities are pretty limited, especially at low tide. There's a great bar with beautiful views and relatively reasonable food and booze plus live music

My friend and I visited Dunk Island for a one-night stay this past weekend and enjoyed low numbers of visitors, lovely wildlife and fun hikes regardless of pouring rain (get involved in the geocaching treasure hunt). We were spoilt with great hospitality from Ray, Zooey and Race, very fun staff that were great for a laugh. We purchased a camping... More

Quite and experience for an "oldie". Dunk Island since the cyclone has not had any accommodation. However, one may visit the island for a day or to camp overnight. We departed on the Taxi from Wongalong (Mission Beach), spent the day on the island having an enjoyable lunch from the temporary beach shack and a good walk. The weather was... More

As we just came back from Mission beach, and local news is that the hotel on Dunk will not reopen. Very sad for this forgotten paradise. We hiked the 5km summit to Mt Kootaloo with breathtaking views of Bedarra Island & Mission Beach. The track was in true forgotten rainforest, it was clear the track had not been attended to... More

I stayed here with my ex-boyfriend before Christmas in 2011. I had fond memories of the island as a child when I also visited. It was still as beautiful, lots of sand flies which I did not seem to remember! Such a shame what has happened to the island since Yasi. In 2011, we drank most of the cocktails on... More

We visited Dunk Island based on advice from a Mission Beach tour company as the snorkeling was excellent at Muggy Muggy Beach. The walk along the beach from the Jetty is very long and on sand, you can't walk in the closed resort boundary making it a hard slog. The walk from the beach through the rain forest is quite... Dunk Island was once an upmarket and lively tropical resort, that unfortunately has been devastated by 2 recent cyclones. The result is that the resort and eateries have been destroyed and up to mid 2015 shows no sign of re-opening. However the good news is that a new cafe - The Jetty Cafe has been established and is open on... More

Beautiful place and looks good what they have done to rebuild . The only bad thing was the drunken staff member on Anzac day urinating and swearing in front of guests at the beach bar . . . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . .. . . ..... More

There isn's a spot to review the Dunk Island Campground so I am doing it here. If TA ever adds an entry for the campground they can move this review there. I'm sure there may be other people who would be interested in information on camping on Dunk. The resort is no longer open due to the damage by cyclone... More
