We've stayed in a number of beautiful and luxurious resorts around the world, but the Bedarra experience is better than anything we've had before. On arrival we were met by the manager Jeffrey and ushered straight inside, had a cold Pimms in our hands in 2 minutes and were sitting at our water view table for lunch about 2 minutes after that. At no time during the stay were we asked to sign a piece of paper or do anything other than enjoy ourselves. Our Oceanview room was just beautiful with a stunning view. The food is unbelievable - you would be delighted with it in a top class restaurant and the staff are wonderful - happy, smart and very capable. We felt like we were guests in someone's beautiful seaside residence. It doesn't get better than this - we will be back very soon.

For those readers who are time-poor, here's the short version of this review - do yourself a favour and Just Go! For those with a bit more time - here you go with a bit more information. We've just returned from a wonderful 5 nights at the Bedarra Island Resort celebrating my wife's birthday. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left it was a wonderful experience that exceeded our expectations! Our wonderful host Geoffrey organised a limo transfer from Cairns Airport down to Mission Beach whereupon we were met by the friendly Marcus who promptly gathered our bags and drove us down to the beach to get the launch. Dave our very capable Skipper took us expertly across some choppy seas to arrive at the island about 40 minutes later. The amazing 3 wheeled boat drove up on to the beach, lowered and allowed easy exit where we were greeted by the lovely Olivia who welcomed us and guided us up to the resort. On the way Liam offered us a refreshing cocktail!! We arrived in perfect time for lunch so went straight to our table where we met Lance. Lance along with all the amazing staff really made the visit enjoyable - but Lance's dry humour was brilliant! I won't detail all our meals suffice it to say that each and every one was superb! Without fail the chefs produced works of art that tasted as good as they looked. In the 5 days that we were there, nothing was repeated so plenty of variety. For lunch and dinner, I encourage you to take the wine-pairing advice from Russel or Berni - both really know their wines and introduced us to some varieties that we'd not had before. We had a Pavilion which has amazing elevated views south and is about a 4 minute stroll the the main resort complex. A couple of weeks before we arrived we had an email asking us to select what items we wished to have in our minibar - sure enough it was stocked with our selection. Everything was comfortable and clean and there was always the relaxing backdrop of waves crashing onto the rocks below! Just perfect. From 6:00pm cocktails are on offer along with some canpes before heading to dinner. We were lucky enough to enjoy a few or our dinners (and a breakfast and a lunch!) in one of the private dining areas. Candle-lit dinner, wonderful friendly service and wine glasses that never seem to be empty - does it get any better? The weather during our time there wasn't conducive to all the recreational activities on offer, but we did get a break and were able to be dropped of on a nearby island and were castaways for about 4 hours with the island all to ourselves. In true Bedarra fashion we were packed off with ample food and booze (along with water and an umbrella for shade) which was just amazing! An absolute highlight without a doubt. Sam the owner of the island was also there who was nice to meet and wonderful to see a childhood family dream come true - you can read his story on their website - quite inspirational. I mentioned our host Geoffrey earlier, but do want to pass on our thanks for a wonderful time - he is hilarious and shares a similar dry wit with Lance. He personally came down to see us off when it was time to leave - a nice touch - or was it to make sure that we really did leave?!!! In summary - this has been on our bucket list for many years - and rather than tick it off, we're going to leave it there as we will be back! I have not relaxed as quickly or as much as I did in Bedarra. Sincere thanks to all the wonderful staff.

My husband and I were so fortunate to spend a week at Bedarra. From the moment we arrived the incredible staff could not do more for us. They are there to please and in the most genuine of ways. A true highlight for us was the food. It was fresh, creative and impeccably presented day after day. We could not have wanted for more. Added to this were the exquisite wines that were specifically chosen and paired beautifully with every course. This is a place to simply relax or like us adventure around a bit and enjoy the warm sun and magical islands around Bedarra. All in all we loved every moment and would not hesitate to recommend this wonderful place.

Our neighbours told us that they were having 25 children at their place on Christmas day and the one thing that came to mind was "Bedarra". I have always wanted to go and know many people who have stayed there, so we planned our escape. We had to book a 4 night stay because it was over the Christmas period, which was fine by us. The Bedarra experience starts as soon as you arrive at their office in South Mission Beach. The gentleman's name eludes me - maybe I'm old - but he was waiting at the bus stop when we disembarked and he took us to the office. Upon arrival we were instantly offered a beverage (beer, wine or champagne). I had a Peroni (actually two) and my partner chose the champagne. He then went on to explain our travel arrangements to the island (either a private boat or helicopter)... we chose the helicopter. The weather was particularly nasty as we arrived, but our departure to the island was delayed for 20 minutes, however this was only due to their interest in our safety and well-being. Roger was our helicopter pilot... he was very friendly and pointed out things to see as we travelled. As we got closer to the island the rain got heavier but if he was worried about it you would not have known. Roger was a complete professional and it gave two "never been in a helicopter before" passengers absolute peace of mind, and l got to say "Roger, Roger". Upon landing we were greeted by Katrina (Assistant Manager), who chatted to us under the welcome pavilion while we waited for the rain to subside. Once the rain settled enough she escorted us to the main pavilion and showed us around, after which we were showed to a lovely gazebo area and we were offered a welcome drink. Katrina suggested a Pimm's (with all the trimmings) and it was the best Pimm's we have ever had. Now, a break-down of the island. 1. The villa Two storey. Bedroom upstairs. Half bath upstairs and full bath downstairs. Ceiling fan. No aircon...just fine for us. Living area downstairs. TV. Music. Very very clean. Superb bathroom toiletries. Internet in the villa did not work. 2. The Restaurant As there are only 20 guests on the island at any given time, you can choose your table overlooking the swimming pool and bay vista (tables are not allocated). The waiting staff are all laid-back and friendly, yet extremely professional. 3. The food Everyday you are offered two entree's, two mains and two desserts for dinner & lunch offered two mains and one dessert. Everything is exquisite in presentation. The chef's should be proud in their work. 4. The rating of the food For myself, I found the food to be quite exceptional, but on occasion the selection I had to choose from did not appeal to me in both taste and satisfaction. On the other hand, my partner thoroughly enjoyed everything they had to offer. Put it down to personal taste. 5. Activities GO CRAZY! Kayaks (two seater), snorkling gear, fishing equipment and your own tinnie to cruise around the island. This is all inclusive. Picnic hampers are also available (which are superb). Also walking / hiking trails. 7. Wine & Beverages Heaven 7. Summary Our stay here was perfect. Geoffrey (Manager) is a wonderful host as is Katrina. It would be hard to fault anything. My partner took great joy in finally catching the ninja cleaners in our villa - when you stay there you will know what that means ;) If the owners of this island are looking to adopt I am available!!!
