Single parent paid $600 a night for a relax. First holiday in two years. Drilling night and day. So loud. Started really early in the morning. Dinner was the worst food I’ve tasted in a long time. Burgers inedible - tapas like it was a frozen microwave food. Chorizo balls absolutely horrendous. Staff were lovely though Did give a discount due to the drilling and clearly had been a lot of complaints. However still wasn’t a cheap exercise and had no feel of ‘luxury’ resort.

I was pleased with the photos online of the Port Douglas Sea Temple Resort. However, I was sorely disappointed when my partner and I arrived. There were cracks on the wall to the right of the bed next to the bedside table. Secondly, there were quite a few spiders in the room and hidden in little nooks which looked like it had been neglected. Furthermore, there was grime in the sink and spa drain and rust on the door hinges. There were also 2 cockroaches in the room. When my partner and I used the spa, we discovered that 2 of the jets weren’t functioning and the fan in the room could only do one speed despite the switch indicating that it was a 3-speed fan. This indicated to me that this room was not well maintained. On our third or fourth day, there was no water due to a piping incident. The estimated wait time was 1.5 hours but subsequently increased. I called at 9ish in the morning and expected the water to return at around 11:30ish. However, it only returned at 3pm. This was a huge inconvenience to us. Okay, I have discussed the minor concerns. The major concerns I had is as follows: 1. 2 single beds put together to form a king bed- My partner and I experienced truly horrendous, sleepless nights at the Pullman Hotel in Albert Park due to two single beds on wheels being put together to form a “king sized bed”. This led to the bed moving apart a lot and led to 2 sleepless nights. So, upon reaching the Pullman Sea Temple Resort, I discovered that it was the same deal! Two single beds pushed together to form a “king sized bed”. Having stayed in quite a few 5 star hotel i strongly believe they should have one king size mattress fitted to a bed frame and not 2 single beds fitted together. I do not understand what the purpose is of fitting two single beds together (is it the cost factor? Space?). Regardless, people spend good money for five star luxury and the least you could do is provide a real bed, and not do a cheap move like pushing two mattresses together. I was furious about this because it also takes the romantic feel away with the bed loving apart every now and then. Also, you can’t actually sleep close to your partner without falling in between the beds. How ridiculous! 2. Paying for wifi- This resort is in Port Douglas and the reception was extremely terrible given its remote location! The best we had was 3G and not even on full bars! Yet, guests are expected to pay PER HOUR for wifi. How ridiculous is that? This resort tries to squeeze every last penny out of you. This was especially frustrating as during our stay, I received a notification stating that we needed border permits to return to Victoria. This obviously required the internet which meant we had to go outside of our room to sort our border permits out. 3. Last but not lease is the restaurant pricing.... absolutely a scam! I ordered a pasta, some wedges and chips, coffee and a cocktail and it came to almost $100!! What’s worse, is I decided to sit by the pool and order a cocktail and a chocolate tart.... came to almost $40!!! How? Well since I like to be prepared, I looked up their cocktail list on their website and all cocktails were $18. Conveniently, they did not update their cocktail menu online and were operating by the cocktail menu in the restaurant so I was charged a little bit extra for the espresso martini which was $22. They did not have inform me of the price, nor did they bother to change the cocktail pricing in the actual restaurant. This was very misleading and led to an overpriced snack! I was furious with this and the excuse? It was apparently “resort pricing”. I have to say that while this resort may make an amazing instagram shot, in person it was a huge disappointment from the food, to the wifi, to the minor maintenance needed in the rooms. Furthermore, this resort had numerous extra costs and tried to take every bit of money out of you. What they lack understanding in, is that people have budgets for heir holidays (and mine was quite significant as I began saving in December), yet they still make it super expensive. I think this resort is all about making money, instead of giving its guests a genuine and hospitable experience. I will never, ever stay at any Pullman resort or hotel ever again. My apologies for not uploading pictures (was fully intending to but completely forgot)

We stayed a week here in January and can’t fault anything. I recommend a swim out room around the pool. It is an enormous lagoon pool and links all the poolside rooms by way of a canal that is an endless adventure for kids. Brilliant service by all the Pullman staff. SR shuttles ran us in and and of town all week on a weekly pass and were also faultless. We never waited more than 10 minutes for a ride and often less than 5.

This is advertised as “luxury accommodation “, this is not luxury, maybe some of the other apartments are, ours was not. The room is missing some basic requirements to be called luxury, for a start there is no sink or microwave. The vertical blinds are very dirty and the outdoor furniture needs replacing, the cushions look daggy. I didn’t like the set out of the room as I was expecting “one bedroom” but there is no bedroom it is all in one. The quilt was also not pristine, and I’m glad we had our own pillows. There is no guest laundry so you need to go to the local laundromat which cost $10 per load. There were dirty laundry bags hanging around outside other rooms for several days I hate to think of the state of that linen which is getting recycled. While the pool is lovely everything is starting to look like it needs a bit of maintenance. Lucky we had our own car as it is a hike into town which I understand costs $12 return on a shuttle. I would not stay here again, in fact we left 2days early as I had had enough.

With our travel we have stayed in a number of Pullman Hotels and their rooms have always been of a high standard, Port Douglas is no exception. We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a 2 bedroom apartment with the outdoor spa. We were very pleased with this. It would be great if both bathrooms were opened to us as the en-suite was very small especially for a person with broad shoulders. The restaurant had a limited menu and there were issues one morning with serving breakfast where the food took nearly 2 hours to receive. We appreciate that there may have been a problem somewhere but please be open with your patrons about wait time so we can make a decision about what we’d like to do. The pool side bar is stated to open at 11am on the website but it would open somewhere between 12.15 and 12.45pm and service was slow due to 1 person working behind the bar. This was a little frustrating. The only other problem was the day spa was closed for the dates we were there. Again the rooms were beautiful and we did enjoy our visit, just some tweaks to the services and this place would definitely be 4 star.

Dear TrudyN650, Thank you for taking the time to provide me with your feedback - it is valued and appreciated. Our operational hours at the selected outlets have been updated as a result. We have been impacted by the effects of Covid-19 where their is a national shortage of hospitality workers currently given our region is heavily reliant on the backpacker workforce. Thank you again for your feedback and we hope to welcome you back in the future to make amends.
