We stayed in a Studio Apartment stuck way back in the far corner with little to no view. There appeared to be mould on the front door and when we walked in it smelt like it had been locked up for six months. We thought it is only somewhere to sleep so we went to laze by the pool while the unit aired out with the windows open. We were greeted by this annoying loud music that appeared to run all day. So much for our nice relaxing time by the pool. The complex is built around the pool but to get from the back and the sides of the complex to the restaurant and bar there is no direct path and you have to walk around the perimeter road. A degree in orientation is needed to find your way around the place. Parking is also very limited and if you can find a spare spot it is normally a hike to your apartment. We stayed for three nights and were very impressed with Port Douglas itself however unfortunately we would not stay here again.

I was quite worried about what we were going to find at the Pullman due to the mixed bag of reviews on this and other sites. We visited in the last week of July which was a peak time for the resort which was fully booked. Due to this, we were paying a premium rate for the room - we stayed in a 2 bedroom penthouse apartment with rooftop spa. Paying such a hefty rate meant I was very concerned prior to arrival, we might be really disappointed for the price. Thankfully this turned out not to be the case. The resort itself is beautiful. The pool is exceptional - one of the best resort pools I've ever seen and I have stayed in quite a few 5 star resorts internationally. The pool itself is the centrepiece of the resort which hass been cleverly constructed around it. Our apartment was huge and both bedrooms had large double wardrobes and spacious ensuite. Kichen/dining/lounge was open plan and although minimally decorated - it was all modern and tasteful. There is wear and tear beginning to appear on the furniture and this is something that will need to be addressed with replacement furniture in the coming years. All in all we found the apartment great. Kitchen was well appointed as was laundry setup which meant we took home all our clothes clean. Upstairs the spa/babecue area was massive and an exclusive use area for our apartment. We took full advantage of this at night and when we felt like time away from the poool area. I did complain early in the trip about the dryer not working and a lifted floor covering in the spa area and both of these issues were immediately repaired with a bottle of wine left alongside a note to apologise for the inconvenience. Personally I thought this was pretty good service, considering how packed the resort was at the time and the pressure on staff. The resort is slightly out of the main drag, however this wasn't an issue for us as we had a car. The trip by car was about 4 minutes away so not an issue at all. The resort restaurant is OK. We dined twice and loved the meal ( barramundi) on the first nght. Kids meals were fantastic as well, although the second night I had the steak which was slighlty overcooked. Prices at Aluco are the same as prices at the higher end restaurants in town - so not over the top. If you are not Australilan like me, please be aware that the restaurant has a resident bandicoot. I didn't know what a bandicoot was, and got a terrible shock when I saw what I thought was a massive rat underneath a table! I was quickly reassured, however if you see a large ratlike shape - that's what it is. Music at the pool bar has been descrbed in very unflattering terms by many reviewers and I was worried tthis was going to be a real holiday spoiler for me. Luckily the music turned out to be completely inoffensive, although if you are in a room near the pool area, it may be an annoyance during the day. I specifically requested a room away from this area and we couldn't hear it at all in our apartment. The cocktail slushies are the main staple of happy hour. If you are a cocktail connoisseur, the options are limited (slushies at happy hour) , so be warned. All in all we had a fantastic stay at the Pullman. I would highly recommend it and would come back again. The staff are lovely and helpful, the resort is clean and beautiful, and the rooms are enormous. One gripe we did have is the lack of a porter with your bags at the beginning ofour stay which we were quite shocked about. I do think this needs to be addressed as 5 star resorts should always offer this service. TIP: If you are visiting in peak season as we were, you should be aware that everry restaurant in town gets booked up well in advance. I'm sure there were many people who had to either have takeaways or cook themselves due to this. I booked two weeks ahead using reviews on the resturants to guide me and I was so glad I didd this seeing how many people were being turned away most places in town.

I am a Dimond Accor member. I choose Pullman branded hotels whenever possible. To be clear this is an expensive hotel and as such you expect a premium service. We stayed at the hotel for seven days. I’m the first day my initial impressions were that the hotel needs a serious clean and maintenance. The tiles felt unclean underfoot. There were sockets for air conditioning hanging off of the walls and one of the PowerPoints was melted in the kitchen. The blinds had marks on them and there were areas that you could see through the paint. On the first night a wedding was setup at the end of the pool. The wedding had a singer and the speeches were on microphone. At the other end of the pool was the bar where more music was playing. This meant that you could hear both sets of music from inside the room. When questioned staff were unable to advise initially when the wedding would be over. At this point I requested the general manager contact me at their first available opportunity. Twice more in the week I made this request and once after leaving via email. I still have not heard from the manager. Room servicing was poor. Two days we received no room service at all and not once was the room swept or vacuumed.

The photos online and Facebook page led me to believe I was booking a 5 star experience in a tranquil and relaxing setting. When we arrived and got to our studio I was instantly greeted with very loud up beat music blarring in through the sliding door onto to our balcony...opening the door and stepping out to rhe verandah was even louder....the music was coming from the pool bar. I rang reception to find out why it was so loud!! They told me the music runs from 11am to 6pm everyday like this They didn't see a problem!! I finally convinced them to turn it down which they said they would do, but sadly didn't. I sat on my bed and cried....my tranquil relaxing holiday was over before it started ....I would have walked out and found an other accomodation but the whole town was booked out. The only way to escape this was to leave the complex between 11 am and 6pm....which sadly we had to do. It was impossible to relax and read a book even in side our room. Sadly it rained the full time we were in Port Douglas so escaping the complex was made harder due to the constant rain. I saved hard for a 5 star holiday.....I felt ripped off. While the room and complex itself was lovely I wouldn't recommend it if you want a tranquil holiday. I have written a letter to management and never got a decency of a reply. Do your home work before you book here.

Really beautiful property, contemporary and stylish fit-out. Loved our ground floor apartment with direct private access to the lagoon pool. Even though there were a lot of families, the pool didn’t seem crowded as it was so large. Experience was dampened a little by shambolic reception staff experience both at check- in and check-out. Eg they had no record of our booking as they had entered our details incorrectly into the system. The booking took them 15 minutes to find and then there were delays in getting access to our room. Check out experience wasn’t much better.

Dear Lynette, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. While I wish you had a better experience, it is feedback like this that we learn from and use to improve. We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short. If you give us a chance to earn back your trust, I can assure you that we will do our best to give you the great hotel experience that so many of our guests have grown so fond of. Please, reach out to discuss your experience by calling or email me directly on h8762-gm@accor.com. Sincerely, Ahmad G

Stayed here roughly 2 weeks ago and me and my partner thought we would splurge. Wish we just saved our money. The resort itself is a aesthetically pleasing however the service was absolutely rubbish! The only nice staff I came across was the maintenance men and the restaurant. The breakfast is way over priced and was like eating rubber. When trying to talk to them directly about my issues I was met with “ sorry “ and then all the ladies behind reception laughing at me. Not a very nice feeling at all. Wouldn’t recommend.

Our review is consistent to many others - run down and poorly maintained property - things get old but they can be clean - staff that don’t really care - house keeping banging on the door at 10 wondering why we are not gone (normally check out 11 - we were meant to have 1) - reception staff confussed - no you can have your Accor benefits of a late check out but next day - you need to be out by 11 not 1 as promised also 24 hrs before arrival btw the restaurant is closed - we have a wedding. The best of all as we were using a free night it must of been mentioned about a dozen times - the reviews are real this place is very overpriced and poorly operated …

We booked a 2-bedroom swim-out privately through an agent. This review is in respect to the resort, not the room (167 - which was fabulous). We are a family with 2 x teen boys. This resort would be getting on +25yr old. Overall, building maintenance is good. Grounds maintenance is rough. The sprawling gardens, in some parts are lovely, in others - totally overgrown, dead or weed infested (not what you'd expect in a Pullman). The pool around our apartment was showing it's age and had algae growing (sign of not enough chlorine also). We came here for the pool. We were not disappointed. It's huge and was a lovely temp. It's not heated, so this would likely change. The swim-out was a hit with our teens, who would vanish for hours at a time. Pool bar is a real disappointment. Happy hour which I ordinarily love, was not my thing here (frozen, pre-mix drinks only). The music kills this place. Honestly. We were so grateful to have our own little porch on the pool away from the incessant noise. Too loud and the music itself is totally headache-inducing and awful. When will management listen? My advice, stop by Dan Murphy's on your way through Cairns and stock up. My son attempted to order some room service, knowing he'd have to pay. Instead was told to walk around to the front to order and collect his takeaway. I think the main thing to know, is that once the resort know you are in a private rental, you are treated differently. I think they'd do themselves better earnings if they 'got over this'....seriously. We would of availed ourselves of room service, pool bar and restaurant more with the ability to put it on a tab. This is an ok option with Thailand and Bali off the menu. I'm not sure we will come back. It was absolutely full over Easter, I doubt it will be next year.
