Stayed here for two nights in May 2024

Pros:
1) The place is a short taxi ride away from the airport and the harbour.
2) The rooms are big and clean
3) The bathroom was spacious as well with all modern ameneties
4) The front desk staff was courteous and helpful
5) There is laundry facility inside the premises.
6) The place is quiet at night and the sleep quality was good.
7) The wifi was free with good speed and connectivity.
8) The hotel has a (paid) shuttle service to the airport.
9) The tariff is cheap.

Cons:
1) The front desk is not staffed 24/7
2) The staff is limited and the rooms get cleaned only every 4 days.
3) The place is far from the main tourist area and restaurants. But there are good bus services.
4) There aren't many eating/shopping options next to the hotel.

After having some last minute flight cancellations, we found ourselves needing a night's accommodation in Cairns. Our flight arrived late in the evening, so we wanted something reasonable just to get a good night's sleep.

The price was fantastic and the room was more than adequate for our stay.
The hotel clearly communicated the after-hours check-in procedures and we found our key and made it to our room very quickly and easily. The bed was comfortable and the room was quite large with self-contained amenities for those seeking a longer stay.

We enjoyed a chat with staff at reception in the morning, they were so very friendly and only too happy to help.

My only feedback would be to please clean the fans in the room, there was quite a lot of built up dust on them. Not a deal breaker for us (we are in the tropics) but something worth mentioning. The aircon worked great. Thanks for a nice stay :)

We book two rooms I had called a few days prior asking if a two bed room was available he said no and that another room would have to be booked then on arrival we got booked into a room that had two beds in it the manager was pretty rude and stagnant it took about 30 minutes to actually check in as about 2 minutes into him asking what room we were in he turn around mid checking us in and started talking to the cleaners who had come in about there next shift without excusing himself. He handed us the paper work and ask which one we were which was a total breach of privacy to the other people staying there then had to ask again cause he couldn’t remember which one he had crossed out. We didn’t get shown where our rooms were he just rudely pointed and said room there and there, parking wasn’t explain nothing was explained. One room you couldn’t open the door properly and there was pubes in the shower and hair in the sink the walls were dirty, in the other room there was hair throughout the bathroom and grit on the bed side tables and mould on the ceiling. It states that you have to wash up dishes and that everything was supplied or you would receive a $200 cleaning bill. There was no cleaning equipment and when I went to tell the manager he asked if I would take it back up as I was checking out( I am heavily pregnant) there was only a think blanket to use and no spares in the room. Very disappointed and will definitely not be going back or recommend this place at all to anyone. The curtains also wouldn’t close properly so the sun came right in first thing in the morning. One room the aircon didn’t work properly.

This was one of the worst experiences I have ever had. The motel was dirty, everything in the room was either broken or rusted along with plenty of filth. The curtains were half off the tracks. There was only 1 glass, teaspoon and no equipment to use the stovetop. I think the booking companies need to take this off their sites. It’s not good for their reputation

Only one key for three of us, if one went out, the others would have the bathroom in darkness as it is attached to power tab.

No mention of reusing towels in the room. Apparently the small print on their website says the room will only be serviced after day 4. They reluctantly gave us new towels.

Three guests, four pillows (total)

Drinking glasses were old plastic scratched glasses. How easy it could’ve been to have glass drinking glasses?

Standard reply from reception “It’s company policy”

I notified the hotel 9 days prior to my arrival that I will be arriving after hours and that if there are any issues with this to let me know and I'll book somewhere else. They said this is fine and that a key will be available for me to collect when I arrive.

I arrived at the hotel, collected my key and made my way to my room. As I find it a man I have never met enters my room then a few minutes later leaves and says to me that he went into the wrong room. As I'm a single female traveller having someone I don't know enter and exit my allocated room at 2am isn't the most comforting thing.

Upon entering the room both the taps were turned on full, there was no hot water from either of the taps or the shower, the smoke alarm was beeping every couple of minutes as it needs a battery replaced and a bowl of chicken stir-fry had been left from the last guest in the fridge.

As it was 2am I knew none of these issues were going to be fixed and I also just wanted to get to sleep and on finding each of the problems I messaged the hotel to ensure they would be aware of these issues when I checked out the next morning.

On check out I notified the guy at reception of how my stay was and all was told that sometimes the housekeepers don't lock the doors after they have cleaned and a couple of oh how strange. I then messaged the hotel and got a response from the manager saying that the state of the room was fully their fault and that they were busy the day before so he did not have time to check the room.

Only apologies were given which I see as unacceptable due to be booking this accommodation for the pure purpose of being able to sleep and having a warm shower.

Managers and staff at reef palms are lovely and do whatever they can to help you ! The hotel itself is run down ( needs a Reno) but cleanish and value for the price you pay. Gardens , pool area and rooms all need a makeover . Not too far from town and close to the esplanade. If you are on a budget hotel is great , otherwise I would look elsewhere . Stayed here two weeks and all good for the price we paid. Room cleaning is only every 7 days but towels are changed every four. We used
Our own cleaning wipes to keep room and bathroom clean .
. Overall 6 out of 10 . I think the owners could improve this hotel with little money and lots of elbow grease .

I'll start off by saying that the customer service was amazing and the location of the hotel was very convenient, with shopping centres and the Esplanade very close by.

However, walking in to our room was disappointing as there was this bad smell, like deodorant that wasn't doing its job properly. The room was pretty and the pool looked very clean, however the single bed wasn't steadied and would move around with you when you fidgeted in the bed (it was on wheels). Leaning on the wall would cause the bed to roll. The main bed was comfy, however the aircon barely worked and so did the wifi. When they cleaned the bathroom, they took away our personal towel. The bed and towels also had stains even though they were "clean". Disappointing, as the hotel had so much potential.

Disgusting, room was filthy, mouldy. Shower was putrid. Were overcharged for the room by about $70. Were quoted one price but charged another and he said it was because only family rooms available but we were not told this. Rude and aggressive

Do I book the airport shuttle or is it hourly and we wait at airport?
Answer from Lyndall G

Hi Andrea - this is a small motel not a large resort so the shuttle runs to a limited timetable.Wr always catch a taxi from the airport TO Reef Palms but book (at least the day before) the free shuttle TO the airport. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Breakfast included is not a cooked breakfast, If breakfast is included in your room rate , you can add a cooked breakfast for an extra $8.00

You can easily call a cab or have it prearranged. The shuttles don't run that early.

We arrived about 11 pm , got a taxi to the hotel , the staff knew we were coming and gave us a code to open the box where our room keys were . They told us what room we were in and that was that . very enjoyable hotel
