4 night stay. Nicely-renovated and comfortable rooms with quality appointments and friendly service by all staff. Check-in and concierge were excellent. Our room though, at night, was very uncomfortable to sleep in due to noise and lighting issues. We had room 215, a Junior Suite. It was located on level 2, which is actually the first floor and located at the Southern end of the hotel at the intersection of Wharf and Abbott Streets. Despite having a huge two-sided balcony, the views of the river and everything else were disappointingly almost completely obscured by all of the large trees at this level. As an added bonus though (sarcasm intended) those trees filled up with literally thousands of Rainbow Lorikeets at dusk, where they remained until the wee hours every morning, happily screaming and screeching pretty much the entire time, particularly around 3 am! The only time they actually quietened down was when they were startled by the 3:30 am street sweeper as it performed its incredibly loud passes multiple times around this three-way intersection. As this is a three-way intersection, it is also extremely well lit, and that lighting is at the same level as the room, pretty much removing the need for any additional internal lighting for our room. There were unfortunately no blackout curtains and the 16 louvre-style sliding doors did not fully close, thereby allowing the street lighting to penetrate the room, giving it a constant early-sunrise type of illumination. Guests really need earplugs and eye masks to have any chance of a good night’s sleep in this particular suite. As a finishing touch on our last morning, we had the added pleasure of industrial jackhammers and reverse beeping of trucks immediately in front of the room at 8:15am. So thoughtful and no heads up! If we were to return, we would be insisting on a much higher floor level and on the northern side of the hotel or would simply not stay here at all.…
Checking into the hotel was seamless, and we were provided a complimentary room upgrade. We found our way to the underground carpark and quickly to the room on level 6. The room was spacious, clean, and had everything that a quality hotel should have. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was huge with an amazing double shower head (rain shower head and standard) and the spa bath was fantastic. Being able to make a decent coffee in the room (courtesy of the Nespresso machine with ample pods) was wonderful too. The facilities at the hotel were great, and we thoroughly enjoyed using the outdoor pool and spa which were clean and well maintained. There is no way that I would choose any other hotel in Cairns.
This hotel was outstanding, in the current climate and with all of the precautions that have to be adhered to the staff at the hotel were fantastic right from check in to fast check out. All protocols were followed, our junior suite room was everything we expected. All restaurants were great, of course Tamarind was outstanding. A trip to Cairns will always be great if the weather is good and it was perfect, see you again soon.
My family and I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and we had such a wonderful time. The room was spacious, even with a rollaway bed in it for our daughter, the bathroom was a really good size. Above all the cleanliness of the room was top notch. Will not hesitate to stay here again. Thank you to all of the wonderful staff for a great stay.
My favourite place to stay in Cairns. Great location, friendly staff and well-appointed rooms. This time around we treated ourselves to a junior suite - it was all we had hoped it would be. We loved the spaciousness of the room, we had a bird's eye (literally) view of the birds which was very entertaining, and of course the room and everything in it was lovely. My only criticism is the state of the gardens and grounds - I remember this hotel from the early 2000's when the gardens around the rooms were lush and beautiful so it's a bit sad to see them looking so unkept.
