My boyfriend and I stayed here for around 3 weeks in June/July whilst we were looking for work in Brisbane. We enjoyed our stay at Minto for this time. The hostel is cleaned everyday which is great, in particular for the bathrooms and kitchen. The kitchen is the best kitchen I've seen in a hostel, with everything you need, including... More

My friends and I stayed here last month. The staff were friendly and helpful giving us a couple of different room options as there were 3 of us. We had a lovely room which opens onto the varanda and the building is beautiful. The price was fair. What let's it down a little is the walls are thin and you... More

I had a great stay at Minto, made an early booking and everything worked out perfectly. Smooth arrival from commuter station close by, a bit of a hike with the backpack but not too bad, good room (bunk beds) on ground floor. Noticed other reviews complaining about noice from bathroom, had the room straight across and there were no issues... More

I didn't end up staying at this hotel as there was a mix-up with the bookings that was at least partly my fault but Clarry was an absolute legend finding alternative accommodation for us at a nearby similar colonial house - and this was on a very busy weekend for Brisbane due to the cricket. Thanks Clarry!

Be aware that Minto Colonial is a hostel not a hotel, and walls are made of paper (even with ear plugs you won't be able to sleep). We had a TV in our room, the volume was so low that we had to put subtitles, however, the next day we had a letter of complain waiting for us from the... More

Hi Megali, We're very sorry you took that letter so personally, especially when we took great pains in the writing of that letter to let people know that we weren't "singling anyone out" and that we wanted to remind "everyone" who uses a device that they needed to keep it down after 9:30pm. Did you notice that it wasn't addressed... More

Minto was a pleasure to stay at. It is a traditional Queenslander home renovated to a guest house. The communal kitchen is fabulous, very spacious and everything you need to cook any meal. The shared bathrooms are adequate and well maintained. The bedrooms are of usual guest house size, bed and wardrobe plus bar fridge in room. the whole house... More

I'm writing this review at 4.45am as sleep is now a forlorn hope. If the walls were made of paper from the era the place was built, at least you wouldn't have unrealistic expectations. We are next to the bathroom, and we can hear every minute ablution. At 3am someone brushing his teeth who I believe may have three fillings.... More

The rooms are tiny, facilities spotless, and there's a big well-equipped communal kitchen. Surprisingly it works, perhaps because of the very efficient management. It provided us a good base for a few days in Brisbane. It's in easy walking distance of the lively South Bank area, and there are reasonable transport links and shops round about. A good basic choice... More

Probably the noisiest place I've stayed outside Central America. Don't expect to sleep much unless you have earplugs or are heavily sedated. Ultra basic facilities, zero service staff, uncomfortable and a little grubby, it's saved by the charm of the big old Queenslander building.

I've upgraded this review to a very good, simply because the hostel is in such a great location. If you want to stay somewhere close to the city and West End then this is perfect. You can find good deals too - I stayed for a week and it was very reasonable. It's within walking distance to the city, cafes,... More
