I stayed in Brisbane for the first week of December 2020, and chose the kookaburra inn on Phillips street. This is a great central location, close to the city and public transport, and close enough to walk a reasonable number of places without being inconvenient. With the extended daylight in December, I was generally out and about by 6am, returning after 7pm. The room I stayed in was clean, had a sink and great air conditioning, and the shared bathrooms were never an issue. The other guests were quiet out of hours, and although I didn’t use them, the kitchen facilities looked more than suitable. I’d stay here again.
Proprietors Sean and John were extremely friendly. My bed was comfortable and the aircon was welcome on a hot night. Kookaburra Inn is located in a great spot in Brisbane - it was easy to walk to cafes as well as appointments I had.
I had a great four night stay here at the end of my Australia trip. The owner, Sean, was very friendly and there to welcome me and give me a tour of the accommodation on my arrival. He also gave me a map and lots of useful information and tips for my stay in Brisbane. The location was great - easy walk to Story Bridge and the ferry terminal to take you to Southbank etc. Also a Woolworths just down the hill which was very handy. My room was clean, quiet and comfortable with good air con and a mini fridge which was useful. There was free tea/coffee to make in the kitchen. The shared bathroom was also clean and just down from my room so I didn't have to walk outside or anything to use it. I never had to wait to use the toilet or shower as my floor was very quiet and can't have had many guests at the time I was there. It was really good having the laundry facilities so I could do some washing and drying before I packed to go home. I did it in the evening and it was rather dark at this point. To access the laundry area I had to walk past some rooms and there was one male guest there hanging out by his door and when I walked back up the steps to go back to my room he stood under the staircase and stared at me, which unnerved me a bit and made me feel a bit apprehensive about walking back out to collect my clothes (the actual laundry area was lit up, however). I guess in future I would ensure to do my laundry in daylight to feel safer. Overall though I felt very safe and secure and my bedroom had a lock and chain etc. I would definitely consider staying here again next time I'm in Brisbane.…
Overall the Inn was not perfectly maintained or cleaned and the finishings for sure needed to be replaced and repaired say as in the showers and toilet areas. I noticed lots of problems with cracking stairs and broken things in the bath areas. The cost is a bit high as compared to other places and the kitchen area in the lower area was a tad rough. Microwave looked to be rusted and leaking so really I'd not be feeling good about being safe at this Inn. Manager Sean seems to be aware of this as his reviews as I've read admit over the last few years, but I don't see that much has been improved despite him saying so and his working hard all the time.
Super friendly check in manager, my gf left ear rings there and he happily posted them back to us. Really clean, good aircon and fridge and very comfy rooms, will dedinately make a point to stay again.
