If you are into all night partying, loud music, drinking, and random noise until 4am, then this is the hostel for you. But bring your own linen as they don't give you any. And bring your own cookware, plates, and utensils, as you have to rent theirs and they are unbelievably disgusting. Don't even store food in the kitchen as... More

We arrived after midnight and Mitchell Street was still buzzing. We decided to book into the Malaleuca because the only major Trip Advisor negative review....seemed to be "lack of sleep from rowdy guests in the swimming pools"...right up our alley we thought "who needs sleep on holidays??" So we booked in for 8 days... The good....you ARE in the centre... More

If you just want to party this hostel is fine otherwise stay away from it. I stayed there for 5 nights and had only 1 night that I was not woken up by people partying or banging on doors. The girl at reception was very rude when I was checking in. The air conditioning in room didn't work and I've... More

Rooms cleaned regularly, good shower area, bar with cheap jugs, central Darwin right next to clubs etc. I had an allergic reaction to the strong detergent the use (happens sometimes) and after deciding to cut my stay here short, the manager on reception refunded me the rest of my stay plus one extra night to buy any creams etc needed.... We checked in in the middle of the night after a long flight. When we got to the dorm we booked all beds were taken, went back to front desk, got a new dorm and same thing happened. We were moved three times cause of full rooms or dirty beds. unacceptable! The dorms are super smelly and dirty too. If... More

I've travelled all through Asia and this hostel is 10 times worse than any I've stayed in there. For $30 a night per bed the owner must be loaded and he/she invests absolute nothing in the hostel, it's disgusting really. You have to pay for the washing machines and the dryers and they are rubbish. Our clothes came out dirty.... More

I didn't like the hostel very much, the room was smelly, like wet or moist smell, only two sockets available in a 4 bed room. Part of the staff was not very helpful and professional. The kitchen was quite a mess and the pool bar music too loud until too late.

When I walked into the room it was freezing cold and you couldn't turn off the aircon. The bed was so damp it was gross there were some unusual stains on my sheets. Overnight it wasn't as loud as I thought it was going to be, probably would not stay here again

I booked melaleuca based on reviews and photographs that presented it to be a friendly, clean and fun. I checked out after 2 nights! It is not advertised as a party hostel, which it should be as it is constant. This is brilliant if that's what you're after but unfortunately it wasn't for me. Most of the staff were ok,... More

I stayed at Melaleuca on Mitchell for one week. I stayed in a private room. On about three occasions, staff walked into my room in the morning, using their own Key while I was asleep, to ask if I was staying on. The answer was always 'yes'. As I was asleep, I had not answered, and had no opportunity to... More
