Originally what drew me to Brickfield Hill was the price but it is so much more than just a cheap spot to stay in beautiful Surry Hills. David was super helpful and communicative and I felt that if I ever needed anything, he'd be there. I didn't need much though as the room was very comfortable (loved the Victorian-style furnishings!)...

From communication to enquire about availability thru booking to being greeted on arrival, we felt welcomed by David. The B&B is an absolutely charming property, very sympathetically restored to give a warm and welcoming place to stay. David is very welcoming, makes himself available if required but is very unobtrusive. His local knowledge and recommendations on places to visit was...

I had five days in Sydney between 25th-29th March and booked in to stay at Brickfield Hill having read so many positive reviews about it online. Suffice to stay, Brickfield Hill lived up to my expectations and from the moment I arrived it was a pleasure to be there. David met me on the morning of 25th and was extremely...

The good things about Brickfield Hill: It's a magnificent, well-maintained late-Victorian four storey terrace, well-located in what I think is the best restaurant and cafe part of Sydney. David and the staff are very helpful and responsive, and at $130 a night, this is not bad value. Rooms are very clean, and the plumbing is up to date. There are...

Nice, quiet street in close proximity to great restaurants, shops and nightlife. Easy walk to Central station. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Great historic building, and friendly, helpful host. Shared bathroom facilities, but one room available with ensuite.

This beautifully restored 1885 Victorian terrace house is well situated for a visit to Sydney since it is a 10 minute walk from Central Station but right away from tourist mania, making it very peaceful at night and a joy to walk around. I stayed in a second floor en suited room which was scrupulously clean, fresh-smelling and very comfortable....

This is a quiet yet fun neighborhood with great cafes. David is a really helpful host. Ask him for recommendations about transport and eating. You can walk to downtown and the harbor through parks and the Botanic Gardens. Just right.

I woke up to the chatter of loriket parrots, air fresh and humid from the overnight rain, natural light streaming through windows into our high ceilinged terrace room. Its a simple go-as-you-please, look-after-youself kind of affair. Fantatsically priced and right the midst of where you want to be for good food/drinks in surry hills and access to transport to get...

Staying in Surry Hills

Neighborhood Profile
Surry Hills
Once regarded as the traditional fashion area, Surry Hills has broadened its appeal. This neighborhood continues to distinguish itself as a shopping destination, offering the best collection of one-of-a-kind boutiques, designer brands and flagship stores in the city. Today, this area has evolved into a hub of media, design and professional services - a colorful and diverse place equally known for its antique dealers, art galleries, cafes and pubs. Strolling down the street on a Saturday morning, you’ll see a mix of students, artists, hipsters and a few all-nighters from Oxford Street, the “Gay Capital of Sydney”. In this vibrant neighborhood you will find bohemian chic and modern style co-existing side by side.

“Because of the stairs, this accommodation does not suit people with mobility issues. Not all rooms have en suites. It is a quiet neighbourhood and so I think all 4 rooms would afford a good night's sleep.”

“We stayed in the Lavender room. Top floor. Probably do not choose this room if you don't want to climb stairs. Also the bed in this room was quite high off the floor, so perhaps don't choose this if you have mobility issues. But for us, it was perfect!!”
