Steeped in history, Ovolo 1888 Darling Harbour was tastefully restored and thoughtfully designed with shutter-happy Instagrammers in mind, providing photo opportunities around every corner so captivating that you really need #nofilter. Originally constructed as a wool store and factory in 1888, the building still bears the original signage of its birth year, visible from the busy streets of Pyrmont. A heritage listed 90-bedroom boutique hotel as well as bar & event space, Ovolo 1888 Darling Harbour brings together Sydney's old world charm and contemporary design with Ovolo's service culture to offer a truly mind-blowing experience in modern hospitality. The collection of rooms each boast 3-metre high ceilings, exposed brick walls, original ironbark beams, concealed uplighting, huge sound proofed period windows, recycled timber work stations, bespoke furniture and feature walls in each room flaunting the colourfully commissioned pieces by celebrated local artist, Jasper Knight. Ovolo 1888 Darling Harbour is located in Sydney's inner-city suburb of Pyrmont, neighbouring Darling Harbour, Sydney CBD, Sydney Fish Market, Sydney Exhibition & Convention Centre, The Star, a wide selection of must-go bars & dining options, and the very best boutique shopping this side of the Southern Hemisphere. But really, who needs to go anywhere when your room rate already includes everything? Continental breakfast*, Wi-Fi, mini bar, self-service laundry, happy hour*, 24 hour gym access? - Yep, all free.

Unbelievable experience. Not sure how it could be topped. Excellent room, excellent bar, excellent restaurant. We will be back time and time. There are reviews here that don't share my view. This place may not have all the views but believe me it is a great place to stay. If i could give it 6 stars i would.

I had booked a 2 nite package deal, at the Ovolo 4 my husband birthday. The quirky lobby caught our fancy & with an early arrival the staff had us booked in 2 our room & coffees made 4 us. Was a fabulous start. Our room was very pleasant, bed felt very comfortable & the view bright out to the streets of Pyrmont. Back down stairs, our coffees were consumed in the modern & diverse lounging area. The management sort a matter for me very promptly & I mentioned was my husband’s birthday & we were having relaxing time to enjoy & visit Sydney again after a time been away. Well we returned feeling a little tired from all our ventures that day, & on arriving back 2 our room a great surprise with a cute disco scene, balloons, bucket with chilled wine & lovely birthday card awaited 4 my husband, was so unexpected we were delighted. Little later we adjourned down stairs 4 drinks & snacks which set us up nicely before a stroll around darling harbour & dinner too. We had fab comfortable sleep, then arose to a delightful & varied breakfast in the dining area. Also management were very supportive to get a restaurant booked for us after our booking had a diff that evening. After strolling various localities checking out all the finery on display 4 Melb cup that day, we returned to our room to view the Cup running & to our surprise there was chilled champagne in our room, well we felt totally spoilt. Later we again had interesting nibbles & drinks in the dining area prior to our dinner which further set the mood for a great party nite. Well we slept soundly & again our breakfast was lovely too. & later after few more treats & late check out we departed. Well what a fabulous place. The staff, the establishment, the location & the extras with the package we booked was a totally wonderful birthday. Too with so many other extras the staff supplied to make it memorable was so appreciated for us both. We so highly recommend staying THANKYOU

We stayed at the Ovolo Darling harbour for 2 nights and can honestly say it was the best getaway to Sydney we’ve had in a long time. We regularly stay in Sydney for a weekend and this was the first time we have stayed at the Ovolo but it won’t be the last! Great location that let us explore the Darling Harbour and Pyrmont areas a bit more, easy access to public transport, right across the road from the parking station. From the moment we walked inside we felt welcomed. Every single staff member was friendly and helpful, and in more than just the expected level of hospitality. The inclusions of the social hour drinks, the in room goody bag and free mini bar plus the included breakfast each morning made thIs stay a stand out. Our room was small, but not lacking anything. The big window and high ceilings made it feel spacious. I loved that you can still feel the character of the old wool store building. We ate dinner at the in-house restaurant, Mr Percy, which was also lovely. The gnocchi was delicious. We will definitely be back to the amazing hotel!

If you're after a panoramic view of Sydney Harbour from your window, then 1888 is not for you. I didn't spend much time in my room, other than to sleep, so a water view was not a deal-breaker for me. I stayed in a King Deluxe and a Junior Suite during stay, both were fabulous, and very comfy. Plenty of tech in the rooms, big flat screen, iPad, Apple TV, BT speakers, wasted on an analogue guy like me! Good quality toiletries and a nice shower and tub too. Very nice bed, good choice of pillows, so you will find the Goldilocks one for you! I stayed almost two weeks, so definitely made use of the free laundry facilities and the well configured conference room for catching up on homework. The breakfast was continental, pretty simple, but sufficient. All of the staff, including the GM make a terrific coffee and you can choose to have one with sit down breakfast or on the run! If you need a hot and more substantive breakfast there are many great cafes a short walk in any direction. Pre-dinner drinks in the lounge bar is very appealing and the wine list is as good as you will find at many high end restaurants. Last but not least, the staff at 1888 are definitely the point of difference compared to any place I have stayed in Australia. All very individual personalities, engaging and very attentive to a guests whims and needs. If you're a very demanding or needy person, stay home, it won't be fun for anyone! To that end, I'll be back for sure!

I understand the COVID situation and how hard it is for some businesses but the Ovolo lacked most of what you would expect from a hotel. There are literally no facilities of any sort. After reading about the brand, I was expecting to have a great experience but all we got was pretty much just a bed. The mini bar is a nice addition but we felt it was very much "oversold" it's nothing like a minibar you would expect in a luxury hotel. To be honest, I would rather pay for it than being given free cheap stuff. The breakfast was a disgrace. By far the worst breakfast i have ever had in a hotel, ever! Again, I know it's "free" or part of the room rate but come on, make a bit of an effort! And on top of that, no chef to order anything hot for breakfast! You are stuck with the one they give you. During our time there, we saw only a couple of staff members but the hotel looked pretty deserted. Not sure if it is because of COVID or because they just seem to have given up? The bar (which is the lobby) was like a ghost town. Never saw anyone there having a drink ot doing anything. There are no restaurant at the hotel currenlty. It is apparently closed. So there you have it. They literally only provide a bed for the night. No gym, no pool, no facilities, not even a restaurant. This is not what I would have expected from Ovolo and what they portray themselves to be. The staff were nice but they were also pretty lethargic and it didn't make up for the overall very poor experience we've had. There are far better options out there at a similar price. We were tossing between the Sofitel and Ovolo and we so wish we had spent our money at the Sofitel instead.

Hi Lovehotels Well how disappointing it is to read of your experience and how sorry I am that you have taken away a negative perception of our hotel. The Covid situation has and will throw some challenges at all of us in the Hotel Industry and undoubtedly how we deal with them will be key to ensuring ongoing positive guest experiences. I can assure you everything we advertise about the hotel is exactly what we have available to guests, no point selling something we are not, as my mother always told me 'just be yourself'. Again i'm sorry your experience with us hasn't been the one you wanted. I'd love to understand more about your stay so if you feel like it please reach out to me directly troy.newton@ovolohotels.com Kind regards Troy Newton General Manager
