The staff at the Mercantile Hotel are very welcoming and efficient. When we arrived in February after their usual hours, they were available to give us our key and Martin even provided a cold beer! They also gave us some breakfast provisions since our two-day sightseeing tour left before the breakfast hour at the hotel. The area - the "Rocks"...

Very old hotel, clean & tidy rooms, ensuite and comfortable beds. The meals at the hotel were excellent, good food and plenty of it.Location was great as we were going on a cruise and the terminal was directly across the road, also handy to the Harbour bridge and ferry terminal, would definately stay there again.

The Mercantile Hotel is at a handy location. Close to a couple of restaurants and only a few minutes walk to Circular Quay trains and ferrys. It was enough for what we needed for 3 nights. Massive private bathroom. Probably only downside was the bit of wear and tear that hasn't been gotten round to yet. The bathroom door couldn't...

This hotel is not one I would recommend to even my worst enemy. I do not normally give reviews for things unless they are positive, but I think it would be a disservice to not tell people about my experience. Disclaimer: This was the only hotel I used on my very first trip to Australia, so I'm not sure if...

I had wanted to do the official guided pub tour but they don't run on the weekends so I found a few places on my own. It was a hot day and the outside patio was packed so I went inside. It was pretty dark (typical pub) but on such a sunny day you would rather be outside. Had a...

Here for two nights. Five minute walk to Circular Quay with Sydney Opera House and Ferry, train and bus services. Literally hotel is under Sydney Harbour Bridge. Hotel is basic. We shared bathrooms but plenty of them. Pub grub really tasty. Rooms cleaned daily with fresh linen and towels. Would recommend hotel for short break early in week (belive it's...

Nice Irish pub with friendly staff however the amenities let this place down. The check in process is not good when there is loud music playing and you have to go to the bar to check in. The room was stuffy and hot with a portable air conditioner turned on as we arrived. Loud live music until 11:30pm on a...

Staying in The Rocks

Neighborhood Profile
The Rocks
The first residents of the Rocks were convicts and sailors from the old nation. As the oldest neighborhood in the city, the area's cobblestone streets host more than 100 heritage sites and buildings, including the oldest house in Sydney, Camden Cottage, which was built in 1816. Taste a “midi “ or a “schooner” of beer and dine “al fresco” on the waterfront at some of the oldest pubs in Sydney. The weekend markets at the Rocks are where you can find local artists' hand-made souvenirs, organic food and designer jewelry in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. To enjoy some of the best Australian and international contemporary art, the MCA museum is open every day and select evenings. At the end of a long day of sightseeing, be sure to save energy to dance the night away at the area's many late night entertainment venues.
