Great pub to relax and chill out after The City2Surf. Great music on a Sunday afternoon, relaxed surroundings. The drink prices were cheap compared to other pubs around The Rocks. Great choice of food on the menu and large meals to satisfy everyone. Well Worth the walk to find this pub. It's not our first time and it won't be... More

We wanted stay in a Pub in The Rocks, walking distance to the The Basement. We picked The Mercantile. Good pick...good price, friendly staff, comfortable bed & an okay breakfast. Went for a wander to get a coffee, but that's part of the waking up process.

Had a weekend lunch with friends. They ordered first as they wanted to share a starter, before mains. We then ordered our mains later. Irish chicken curry caught my eye. Sounds interesting right? Hahaha it was just Thai green curried chicken with rice AND chips! You can't put potatoes with Thai food and called it Irish can you? Hahahaha. Anyway... More

We looked at the lunch menu and decided to give it a try, and ordered the value steak. The meat was good, cooked as we asked for (rare), and the fries were very tasty. Service was efficient and nice. Definitely recommended.

This hotel is highly recommended for tourists, as the hotel is located at the best Street of Sydney... All famous pubs a few steps away, and other popular places like opera house a few more steps away. Friendly staff clean hotel and pocket friendly. Bathrooms are on sharing basis. Rooms are well equipped, and cozy.

This hotel is great for anyone who likes to Party. As it's so old the noise from outside and inside (bands playing until at least midnight) sounds through the whole hotel. A market sets up in the early hours of Saturday morning which is very noisy. The hotel can't help this which is why I suggest ear plugs. Rooms are... More

Well the mash potatoes were... More

We checked out the very Aussie pubs in the Rocks but The Mercantile is THE longest running IRISH pub in Sydney. There was even an Irish waitress! Cool July night and the outdoor heaters were on with a great atmosphere on George Street. Sláinte!

This place is incredibly cheap! The rooms are very clean, large, comfortable beds. The shared bathrooms are also kept clean and there's plenty of them so there's no queuing for the loo :P The breakfast included is also great! AND the location is wonderful! The Rocks are beautiful! The pub below is very quiet, so there's no worry about it... More

Staying in The Rocks

Neighborhood Profile
The Rocks
The first residents of the Rocks were convicts and sailors from the old nation. As the oldest neighborhood in the city, the area's cobblestone streets host more than 100 heritage sites and buildings, including the oldest house in Sydney, Camden Cottage, which was built in 1816. Taste a “midi “ or a “schooner” of beer and dine “al fresco” on the waterfront at some of the oldest pubs in Sydney. The weekend markets at the Rocks are where you can find local artists' hand-made souvenirs, organic food and designer jewelry in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. To enjoy some of the best Australian and international contemporary art, the MCA museum is open every day and select evenings. At the end of a long day of sightseeing, be sure to save energy to dance the night away at the area's many late night entertainment venues.
