I was check in by Chris and Fiona at the front desk, they were so lovely and professional. They made the process of checking in very easy and smooth. The hotel looks very amazing and love the new design of the renovation. Excellent and professional customer service Great location Amazing view and room Definitely come back and recommend for my friends and family!
Fawlty Towers....Its that bad. Avoid Intercontinental Sydney 117 Macquarie Street at all costs. From incorrect booking types, incorrect money taken automatically from my account, 15 minute wait for a glass of Prosecco, paper thin walls with guests next door blaring TV on all night and morning. I had to call reception to sort it. Noisy plumbing around midnight like a cheap motel, bar closed at 10.30pm on Thursday night in a 5 star hotel, limited choice on room service after 11.30pm as cannot order basics like fries. Taxi not booked for Opera House. 20 minute wait f our a pot if tea with brekky, salmon served for lunch without my sides and salmon cold. Staff useless . Spoke to 3 managers and got lunch not charged and I asked for complimentary bottle of wine. No NZ Sauvignon Blanc as they ran out. I got a substitute. I was then charged for these and 4 days after checking out I'm still sorting my bill. I also rdered a bottle of proscecco to my room on my first night which they charge $75!!! and a glass of proscecco arrived with a large bucket of ice. An extra $8 For each item orders off the room service menu. I could go on. Second key to room not activated so back d open to reception.…
Visited here Dec 2020 As part of our round the world trip. To say this was one of the highlights of our trip speaks volumes. We stayed club class and the upper floor restaurant with views of the harbour will never be forgotten. Freshly made breakfasts and such friendly helpful staff, perfect. We loved evening happy hour watching the cruise liners depart. Loved the location and literally everything about our stay here.
The rooms were terrific, recently renovated with new technology. Curtains were controlled by a poke of a button bedside. The hotel is still undergoing renovations, so as others have said, the lobby is located in the hallway. However, it didn't affect us that much, because lets be honest, how much time do you spend in the lobby anyways?? As long as the room was immaculate, that's most important. As elite members, we were accorded an upgrade to their east harbour view rooms. We paid out of pocket for their breakfast buffet at AUD $42 per person at their treasury restaurant. Selections were decent, not extremely expansive but did the trick for breakfast. Staff were above and beyond, efficient and professional.
Staying in this hotel under construction is challenging but the staff works hard at compensating for it. Titan and Samir were particularly helpful and kind to us. The work seems to be wrapping up and we were able to have a lovely stay. An excellent central location made it easy to see everything Sydney has to offer. The ferry system is brilliant!
My sister and I stayed at the Intercontinental Sydney for one night on our way back home to the USA. Location of this hotel is excellent. There is no lobby to speak of right now because of all the renovations going on. No one at the "entrance" waiting for you as a "5 star" hotel should have. Their makeshift "lobby" and "check in" desks are a very small and crowded. Their rooms and beds are comfortable but not of the quality of a 5 star hotel. Their employees looked very busy all the time and not very approachable. We stayed on the 27th floor. The hallway from the elevator to the room was dark and carpet appeared used and unclean. I don't think its a good value for what you pay and definitely not a "5 star" hotel.
We have been dedicated customers for many years we know the hotels and we know the process for checkout and charging. 5 days after our stay we were charged a second time for our stay. On the first call to the hotel the staff refused to listen that our card had been charged and tried to tell us it was the card security bond settings and the money would be returned 24 hours after our check out........They refused to listen that the money was taken 5 days after our check out and that we stay regularly so know the process. We asked to talk to the manager with the same response and a refusal to listen to us that the money was taken 5 days after check out. We gave them the benifit of the doubt .....24 hours later.... Still no money back called the hotel again staff member wanted to go through the whole process again and finally agreed to let us talk to the manager after a 20 minute wait on the phone to the manager the staff member returned with a message. A 5 star hotel who has taken our money without our consent and the manager could not even have the decency to talk to us. We have still not got our money back and still not been contacted by the hotel a week later.......…
Five star service - from check-in to check-out, every staff member interaction I had was impressive - very attentive, polite and eager to assist. The newly renovated room was standard Intercontinental quality and had some convenient tech like the USC C port and automatic curtains. View from our 16th floor facing the Botanical Gardens was lovely during the day and night Pool was closed and fitness room was minimal but plenty to do outside the hotel in the vicinity so didn't bother us for the two nights - to the contrary it was comfortable and private rarely seeing other guests in common areas
As an IHG platinum member you get certain rewards inc free room type upgrade. Only when I chose a room for IHG it's knowing the upgrade room I will get. Sydney showed there was above opera harbour room I booked. When I checked in, they said sorry there is no room above what I booked. They should refund back down a room type. Especially if falsely advertising. The hotel is still under MAJOR reservations again not highlighted on their website. 5 nights stay, 2 bottles of complimentary water. Meant to be a $25 mini bar credit. Now he I see never asked. I wasn't even shown a bill at check out it was emailed. One night I came back to the hotel late, mu key didn't allow me entry, a young lady who was stating there came up a few mins later, her key also did nothing. The I.tercon, no one answered, the phone number they put there if issues, no one answered. Luckily a third guest turned up and somehow his card worked. My most disappointing experience with IHG and in particular Intercpn where you expect much much better. I've certainly been miss lead and over charged.…
I booked at the Intercontinental Sydney for me and my two teenage sons expecting a five-star hotel. The available services were less than a three star hotel. The lobby was in the hallway to the lifts.....no not near the hallway.......in the hallway. My understanding is no grand lobby....no 5 stars. The swimming pool was out of bounds due to renovations as was the gym was out of bounds due to an age restriction. The room was also under normal 5 star specifications. The staff soaked up my complaints but whilst they upgraded my room did not do much to rectify things. All in all a "less than what it could have been" experience. They should have advised potential guests of their shortcomings.
