Booked a private double room with ensuite. Quite expensive at $198 for what it was but very convenient as is it situated just on the Rocks. Room was spotless although aged, tea and coffee facilities, upgraded bathroom with shower and small hairdryer, towels and hand soaps. TV, trundle bed to turn it into a twin. Great view of the opera... More

The location of this hostel is brilliant with it only being a five minute walk to anywhere else such as circular quay where you can get on the ferry or a wilder trip such as the thunder jet boat trip! The hostel itself was clean but I did feel it Lacked the personal touch that the other hostels I have... More

I travelled through Australia for a few months and stayed in a lot of backpackers. I'm happy to confirm that regarding to location and service this was by far the best one. Beautiful view from the top Terrace into the harbour and clean rooms, perfectly located at the rocks. As a Backpacker you don't need more than that..that's actually much... More

Sydney Harbour Youth Hostel is situated in The Rocks area. It is very close to Circular Quay which is great to catch ferries, trains or buses. The Sydney Bridge Climb is in the same street. The staff are friendly and helpful. We stayed in a 4 bed room with its own bathroom. It was neat and clean. The YA has... More

Hi Nic We are really pleased you enjoyed staying at Sydney Harbour YHA. Just to let other guests know, all our rooms are ensuite - the multishares and the private/family rooms. It is also possible to approach the hostel from Wynyard Station with a flat easy walk rather than Circular Quay. The Rocks can indeed be rocky! We have a... More

This is not a 5 star review. Let's start positive: the place is clean and has a great location. Even the night staff is social and nice. All other sides of staying in YHA Sydney Harbour were really bad. Moody staff, up for a fight, not willing to help, not listening to well paying customers, Besides that: you pay for... More

Hi Douwe We're sorry you had some issues staying with us - we are always happy to try and address them when you are still in house, you just need to ask to see the manager. Most hostels in Australia don't include breakfast in the overnight cost - YHA instead provides great kitchens as most of our guests chose to... More

The location is great, the view from the roof terrace to the opera and harbour bridge is amazing! The area where it is located is very nice, you can walk to the opera, to the bridge, to the ferries. The Rocks is a historic part of the city where you can have a nice walk and it has lots of... More

Stayed here for 3 nights at the start of my trip to Australia. My friend and I had booked separately but were very clear on the run up to the trip that we would like to be together and they were very accomodating and friendly. When we arrived, it seemed as though this had been confused with something and we... More

It was my first stay in a youth hostel (except a school trip over 20 years ago!) and I loved it. I was in a 4 bed dorm with bathroom and it was clean and comfortable. My room mates were very considerate in terms of noise and lights. There was a big kitchen area and plenty of tables and chairs... More

I always choose YHA when staying in Australia (one of the reasons is because I am a member of Hostel International). So when I had a business trip in Sydney, I chose this double-room hotel at the Rocks area as it's known for having Harbour best views. It is also the melting pot of backpackers as the hotel also provide... More

Staying in The Rocks

Neighborhood Profile
The Rocks
The first residents of the Rocks were convicts and sailors from the old nation. As the oldest neighborhood in the city, the area's cobblestone streets host more than 100 heritage sites and buildings, including the oldest house in Sydney, Camden Cottage, which was built in 1816. Taste a “midi “ or a “schooner” of beer and dine “al fresco” on the waterfront at some of the oldest pubs in Sydney. The weekend markets at the Rocks are where you can find local artists' hand-made souvenirs, organic food and designer jewelry in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. To enjoy some of the best Australian and international contemporary art, the MCA museum is open every day and select evenings. At the end of a long day of sightseeing, be sure to save energy to dance the night away at the area's many late night entertainment venues.
