A really comfortable and economic place to stay while travelling alone or with friends. The location is marvellous- presents a direct view of Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge, even from the window of some rooms. Every attraction is hardly walking distance. Metro harbour line is next door and busses to all parts are available. Ferry's are available just downstairs.... More

Very central location, spotlessly clean, comfortable and also very interesting and enjoyable. The building is on an archeological site - fascinating. An excellent place to stay in Sydney - we say this as two fifty somethings!

I honestly can't imagine a better option for budget/mid-range accomodation in Sydney, and I am SO glad I booked a room here. Location is simply ideal, can't get better than that. The view from the rooftop is something I would only expect from high-end hotels in Sydney. The staff was extremely friendly (as the atmosphere) and helpful, The room was... More

This was the start of our year away and the only issue is the fact that we have such a high expectation of all hostels over in Australia and New Zealand now. Obviously we know that not a lot of hostels compare to this place. The view from the terrace is spectacular, day and night. The kitchen in clean. The... More

I stayed in a 4 bed dorm for 4 days and should start by saying I'm not really a hostel person but this hostel made my stay so smooth and easy. The hostel has a brilliant location - within 20 minutes walk of anything you could need and 10 minutes to the Quay to catch your ferries. It is a... More

I stayed in a private room (111) on the 1st floor. The room is clean, has a jaded view of the opera house and came with a kettle, coffee, tea etc! The YHA has a lounge, kitchen, breakfast bar and so much more. If you go to Level 3 there's an awesome rooftop area with lounge chairs, a hammock, a... More

Clean, pleasant stay. There's free wi-fi in the lobby, storage lockers (for a fee, but if you are returning in a night or two, they'll hold a bag for no fee), several kitchen spaces. You'll need your own shampoo, wash cloth and such as you would expect at a YHA, but linens and towels are included. There are activities every... More

We took an early flight from Auckland to Sydney. By the time we reached Sydney Habour YHA, it was around 10am. We kept our luggage at the hostel (the YHA offers very good luggage storage facility) and explored The Rock and neighborhood. Since we didn't have any specific plans for our stopover at Sydney, we spent most of our time... More

Weekend away for 4 ladies. Booked a 4 bed room with private bathroom on a Saturday night cost us $50 each. Perfect. So clean and big. The most amazing top deck over looking the bridge opera house and harbour. Right in the middle of the rocks. Perfect.

Booked a private double room with ensuite. Quite expensive at $198 for what it was but very convenient as is it situated just on the Rocks. Room was spotless although aged, tea and coffee facilities, upgraded bathroom with shower and small hairdryer, towels and hand soaps. TV, trundle bed to turn it into a twin. Great view of the opera... More

Hi Davieskaya Really glad you enjoyed your stay. Just for information, our hostel has some special environmental features. All rooms have air con and heating but rather than having them run 24/7 (including in empty rooms) we have a request basis. People can phone reception to have it switched on! This is one of a number of initiatives that has... More

Staying in The Rocks

Neighborhood Profile
The Rocks
The first residents of the Rocks were convicts and sailors from the old nation. As the oldest neighborhood in the city, the area's cobblestone streets host more than 100 heritage sites and buildings, including the oldest house in Sydney, Camden Cottage, which was built in 1816. Taste a “midi “ or a “schooner” of beer and dine “al fresco” on the waterfront at some of the oldest pubs in Sydney. The weekend markets at the Rocks are where you can find local artists' hand-made souvenirs, organic food and designer jewelry in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. To enjoy some of the best Australian and international contemporary art, the MCA museum is open every day and select evenings. At the end of a long day of sightseeing, be sure to save energy to dance the night away at the area's many late night entertainment venues.
