A great hostel with friendly, helpful staff. The rooms and facilities are clean and the beds were comfortable. There is a nice rooftop with a view of the harbour. The location is superb, right next to Circular Quays. We really enjoyed our stay.

Clean hostel with awesome views in a great location. You can't beat sitting on the roof terrace with a wine watching the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House all lit up. Location was brilliant for exploring The Rocks and all the pubs and cafe's. 5/5 will be back!

I am in my early 50's. I spent my 20's traveling in YHA Hostels and have stayed in many since, but always in family rooms. This was my first time in over 20 years staying in a 4-person dorm room. It exceeded all my expectations. My roommates very quiet and polite, the room and the hostel was very clean. Our... More

This is always my accomodation of choice when visiting Sydney. The location in The Rocks area is like immersing yourself in a Ruth Park novel and I never quite stop expecting to be transported back in time. Original laneways, buildings and steps give it quite a romantic feel and it is within walking distance to the Opera House and other... More

Excellent hostel - best YHA ever! Stayed in a private room with ensuite. Clean, modern room with tv and tea/coffee making facilities. Comfy bed. Excellent kitchen and rooftop terrace with amazing views. Offered free pancakes one morning! Ideal location for walking to harbour bridge, opera house, restaurants etc. Highly recommended - just book it!

This was my third stay at this YHA in the perfect location of The Rocks in Sydney. We had a double room which was clean, had a comfortable queen sized bed and a modern ensuite with free standing shower. The hostel guests ranged from the expected international backpackers to families and grey nomads. The hostel's great location puts it within... More

Stayed here for the weekend in a private room with my friend while in town for a concert. Great location, within walking distance to everything. View from room was amazing - could see the Opera House! Bathroom in our room was amazing, so modern and clean! Only downside was that the bed was quite thin, but not a huge issue... More

One of the best hostels I've every stayed at. Main reason is its location. It's just a few minutes away from Sydney Harbour. 'The Rocks' area of the city is very nice too. Almost feels like a small town within a city. Double room was good value for money. Saw the whole age range of people staying there; teenagers, couples,... More

Possibly the best hostel I have been to in Aus/NZ! -Beds are clean and comfortable, rooms have massive lockers and all en-suite toilet/shower. Extra toilets/shower/bath on each floor if needed. Own charge point/light per bed. -Kitchen is big! Gas cookers! Lots of space and storage in both shelving and fridge. Kitchen is open 24/7. Filtered water available -Eco friendly hostel,... More

Staying in The Rocks

Neighborhood Profile
The Rocks
The first residents of the Rocks were convicts and sailors from the old nation. As the oldest neighborhood in the city, the area's cobblestone streets host more than 100 heritage sites and buildings, including the oldest house in Sydney, Camden Cottage, which was built in 1816. Taste a “midi “ or a “schooner” of beer and dine “al fresco” on the waterfront at some of the oldest pubs in Sydney. The weekend markets at the Rocks are where you can find local artists' hand-made souvenirs, organic food and designer jewelry in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. To enjoy some of the best Australian and international contemporary art, the MCA museum is open every day and select evenings. At the end of a long day of sightseeing, be sure to save energy to dance the night away at the area's many late night entertainment venues.
