My stay at Abode Narrabundah was a quick and pleasant one, but it lacked the friendly and passionate service I have received at other Abode hotels in Canberra. I was given a very competitive rate when I booked about five weeks out, and reception dealt with my few odd requests well.

The bed was a bit high and soft, but I had a good night’s sleep regardless. The bathroom was well designed and had room on the shower shelf for all my stuff - this is not commonplace so I appreciate it when it happens! There was also room in the bathroom to move about with ease, again, most hotel bathrooms have little room to spare so that was terrific.

I would definitely stay here again, especially if the price was right, but this small outpost of the Abode brand doesn’t feel the same as others. The service is a bit impersonal, and lacks the warmth and charm so evident elsewhere. Still a good stay, please consider this review a 4.5 star effort.

Self catering accommodation with a range of bedding configurations and room sizes. You can have two pets per room but you must be with them at all times. That is you can’t pop out and leave them in the room.

Hotel is laid out in an L shape and it’s a long walk from reception if you are in a room facing Jerrabomberra Avenue. Hallways are hot and stuffy too. One luggage trolley and no porter. One elevator. Two storey building. Parking is outside and is free.

I would suggest a ground floor room near one of the three exit doors to make it easier to bring your stuff in and out. Being self catering and pet friendly you bring more.

Abide Pantry is great. Alcohol has to be ordered on online and is then delivered to your room. I tried the red wine in a can out of curiosity and it was gross.

There are push bikes available too.

The air conditioning could be a lot better. It didn’t cope with temps 38-43. Luckily I had brought a fan with me but the room was still hot. It’s on a timer and switches off at midnight which disturbed my sleep having to get up and turn it back on

The room(s) I had both had a full kitchenette and washing and drying facilities in each room which was a huge advantage in my opinion.

The rooms were extremely quiet with no noise from neighbours or outside traffic.

The first room I stayed in the aircon was not working unfortunately. I didn't need it the first night, so I didn't realise it was broken.

The next day whislt at work I contacted the hotel (I left before reception was open in the morning) albeit late in the day (around 4pm) to state that the aircon wasn't working and if something could be done to sort it out. I then arrived about 2 hours later and asked about the aircon to which they said it wasn't fixed, however come back to reception in 10 minutes after packing your room and we'll move you to another. So after 10 minutes, reception had the new room ready for me which was an upgrade to a bigger room with separate lounch and dining room.

This new room was actually closer to the main road, but I still didn't hear any sound coming through, so their windows and sound proofing were great.

The only downside to the new room was the aircon at first I didn't think was working, but it was just very slow to cool the room down (the room had all the curtains open on a 34 degree celsius day, so obviously heated up considerably). By the next morning the room temperature was comfortable.

My only advice to Abode is to get the aircons services as one not working and the other working albeit very slowly isn't ideal.

The hotel itself is right next to a gym, golf driving range, mini putt-putt, chip and putt and across the road from a public golf course.

It's extremely close to the airport, only a 10 minute drive away.

The only restuarant within walking distance is the Harmonie Club down the road which serves great German food, including really nice pork knuckles.

Would stay in again.

We arrived exhausted after driving for hours to find the room filthy. Dust bunnies on every surface, the toilet was disgusting, pubes in the bathroom sink and the kitchenette area had not been wiped down. The shower had soap scum, the taps and around the sink had an outline of grime. The manager showed me two more rooms and they were the same. In the end we asked for cleaning products and cleaned the areas we would be touching for ourselves. Not good enough abode, if we weren’t still 3 hours from home at 9 at night on Valentine’s Day we would have left. I have never had to ask for cleaning products in a motels ever before and I am a well travelled 51 years old.

I'm surprised to see people comment on the cheap prices, as we paid around $1200 for five nights. My fault for leaving booking so late, I guess, and not realising it was a long weekend. Also my fault for not realising the place was "pet friendly" as, given the very sketchy standard of housekeeping, I would never have booked a room that might previously have been occupied by animals.
On the plus side, all credit to Julia, who checked us in. We had been allocated a room at the very far end of two lengthy corridors. We are both in our 70s and have mobility issues. She was able to find us a family suite quite close to the lifts, which was much appreciated. Helpful in every way: she earned the place a star.
This suite was spacious for two, but families beware:
The separate bedroom, where presumably kids would be put to bed earlier, was furnished with a double bed, and the main room with two singles. Surely the reverse would be more suitable? The wall to the main room stopped short of the ceiling, letting in light and noise. The bathroom had hanging space for only two towels.
For us, the suite had annoyances, many of which could be easily fixed with a little thought. I suggest management stay here a night to experience:
The springing in the occasional chairs had collapsed, leaving a metal bar digging into the thighs; they were unusable. There was no central lighting in the dining and sitting area, so difficult to read by. There were no instructions for the many appliances: even Julia could not figure out the dishwasher. Crockery and cutlery were in drawers at floor level. The hand dishwashing liquid sachets were not replenished, and required scissors to open them. Fortunately I carry a tiny pair, as there were none in the cutlery drawer. The freezer section of the fridge was iced up, and was insufficiently cold to hold ice cream for 24 hours. Soundproofing to the corridor was poor. The housekeeping was minimal, on the last day non-existent.
This might all be acceptable in a very cheap motel, but not for what we paid.

I liked the place & stayed there a few times over the years when visiting Canberra.
Hotel offers spacey, spotless clean, very comfortable rooms with cooking, dish washer, laundry facilities & drying machine. They even provide laundry detergents unlike many places where there is a laundry machine but you have to travel with you own washing powder or purchase it from the reception.
Abode Narrabundah is a very quite place & your rest is guaranteed. There is no shops nearby & you have to walk/drive to restaurants, but there is a mini shop in the reception offering essentials from tooth paste to small range of food (frozen supermarket type meals & snacks). If you get a room overlooking golf course you will be treated to a lovely green landscape from your window/balcony & flocks of cockatoos patrolling the area :) This hotel is a bit out of the way, but if you do not have a car, there is a reliable public transport & bus stop a short walk from the hotel + taxi & uber. The hotel is a pet friendly & although I have seen plenty of animals I was not disturbed by barking & did not see any "traces" of theirs in the rooms. Highly recommend for everyone who wants a comfortable, peaceful & restful stay in the capital.

Booked a studio room (pet package) via hotels.com for 5 nights (East holiday). The first impression of this hotel is not bad, the hotel is located near the golf club and nothing else around. Check-in is nice and easy and our room is located on the ground floor which is great as easy to assess to outside for my dog.

The room is in a reasonable size with a kitchenette, the bathroom is quite big with a shower only. They provided a washing machine and dryer which is a bonus!

The bed is too soft for me and I found that it hard for me to fall asleep, TV is on descent size. In general, the room is functional.

The room cleaning service is super slow! My room will not get clean before 3 pm so it is a bit annoying. Don't think they vacuum the floor every day as the carpet still very dirty. I didn't expect that as they claim is a 4-star hotel.

My conclusion is unless you are looking for a "pet-friendly" hotel with parking. Otherwise you can have a better choice with the same amount you pay!

So for this trip it was just myself and my toddler who stay for 3 nights. My parents where also staying here in another room.
It was booked last minute online through agoda and paid for online.
On arrival i went to check in at reception and was asked to make payment. Which the reception showed me an amount on paper for the cost of the stay which was cheaper than i booked online. The amount that was entered into the eftpos was also different than the amount on the paper and what i was charged online. But After being in the car for 3hours I didn't even think until my card declined. Then i checked my bank account and noticed the money had been debited already. So i informed the receptionists who didnt seem to bothered or apologetic about the error. Then i questioned him about the 3 different prices for the same room and he couldn't give me a straight answer.
He also asked me if i was related to anyone else also currently staying in the accommodation. It made me think 'oh good they might get me a room close to my parents!'
How wrong was I! My parents were on the top floor and i was at the end of the bottom floor. The distance from the car to the room with a toddler and all our luggage was ridiculous. It was painful even thinking about packing up or getting something from the car.
The room was clean and tidy. The housekeeping staff made the bed so perfectly after the first night while we were out. But whoever made it after the second night shouldnt have even bothered!
My parents had to borrow sugar off us as there was none in their room and when they asked housekeeping they never got any.
Honestly if this was my first impression of this motel I wouldnt be back mainly for the zero customer service.

The worst hotel I have ever stayed.

We booked this hotel through agoda and was confirmed and non refundable

We arrived at 9pm last night and was unable to check in.
24 hours assistant number is not responsive. Called that number million times so did other resident who was trying to help us out.
I even started to look for other hotel urgently as my kids were out of patience.

Finally, My genius husband reached the night manager by calling other hotel under abode group. It’s already 10 pm when we got the room key.
Super frustrated !
There were something even worse after we entered the room.
The room was not clean properly, not even close!
There are dry bacons on the carpet, unknown food spilled around the table, the glasses look gross and even some used tissue in the drawer. It’s very dusty on the bed side table, corner of the room etc . And looks like the hose keeping left us an eaten candy on the window. My little daughter was so close to reach it and put it into her mouth!
A proper hygiene practice has not been put in practice in this hotel , not to mentioned we were told by other residents that there was a covid case on our day of arrival in this hotel!!

24 hour assistance line was finally Answered by Adam from Abode Woden this morning. ( we stayed with Narrabundah actually)

Hopefully our room can be cleaned properly when we returned from cherry picking.
Coz we still have to stay here for another night .
Phots attached !
Horrible experience.

We have stayed in two other Abode properties several times with our dog but in future we’ll take our business elsewhere.

The pet friendly idea means profit friendly for Abode. They used to give you a little welcome bag with a toy, now for your $50 A NIGHT you get nothing. This is a far cry from other establishments who have provided at least a bed & bowls for the same fee. Many hotels have upped their game and Abode has gone backwards.

In our three night stay I couldn’t see evidence of additional cleaning / a vacuum used to warrant a per night pet fee rather than a per stay fee. We booked a ground floor room with access to the grass dog courtyard. On check in I asked questions about dog facilities, bins etc and the receptionist was clueless. In actual fact there were several bins situated within the dog area but they were not emptied nor rubbish picked up during our stay. I ended up picking up the rubbish myself.

Our room was in need of a refurb- the bed is awful and it gave us sore backs. 3 pillows on a queen bed, the only occasional chair to sit on had an uncomfortable bar across the seat- a cushion didn’t help. A (different & helpful) staff member got it replaced with thanks.

The washer sounded like a jet engine, the plates are too big for the dishwasher. There is no screen for the courtyard door so you can’t leave it open for fresh air when you go to bed.

Stay at this hotel as a one night only as it’s well located (with a car) and having access to a fenced dog area is great.

Responded Jul 3, 2024
Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback regarding your recent stay with us. I sincerely apologize for the disappointing experience you had, especially considering your positive experiences at other Abode properties in the past. We value guest feedback as it provides us with the opportunity to constantly review our offerings and procedures and overall improve the experience that we provide our guests. We have taken the time to review your feedback in relation to cleanliness, comfortability and facilities in the rooms and have worked on implementing new processes on both room standard as well as condition of the furnishings in the rooms working towards the goal of an improved offering. This is always an ongoing project; however, we have worked hard over the past few months to address these concerns. We additionally have well received your commentary surrounding pet-friendly inclusions and we are excited to share with you that we will be soon introducing a new and improved pet-friendly package at our pet-friendly Abode Hotels. Again, we apologize for not meeting your expectations during this visit. Should you wish to further discuss your stay with us, we would love to hear from you, and should you provide us with the opportunity we would be happy to extend a discount on a future stay. Kind regards, Mohit Loomba Hotel Manager

Yes you can bring your dog. There is a $40 fee per night for the dog. Let them know when booking so they can give you a room with access to lawn. Why do all these other people bother answering a question they don’t know the answer to?!
