Having stayed at many different hotel in Canberra over the years, we decided to try the Mercure simply because it's an original hotel from Canberras beginnings. We were not disappointed. The building might date from 1927 but everything in the hotel is right up to date. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The hotel location is fairly centrally located and... More

Stayed at the Mercure, primarily as we had a family reunion and were attending a couple of events at the War Memorial. This was a great location as we were able to comfortably walk to the Memorial from the hotel, in about 10-15 mins. Room was very spacious, with a modern bathroom. Layout of the hotel means you need to... More

Great location, and the rooms are big and comfortable enough, the staff is polite, there's a gym,. a pub and restaurant ... the food is great and the prices are average, but very noisy as it is separated from the pub by the bar itself! Note that if you find it hard climbing over a bath to have a shower... More

Would definitely stay here again. Helpful and friendly staff, plenty of car parking. Maybe because we stayed on a Sunday night, but we were upgraded to a king room, which was really nice. A beautiful old looking building with a central courtyard. There is the Ainslie Bar attached to the hotel with bistro style meals that we couldn't fault, generous... More

Being a Canberra local its always great to visit a hotel that maintains its charm and story, whilst offering great food and service in the bistro and bar. The two best things for me are the lovely staff and the dog friendly atmosphere- there are not many places you can go inside (if you are not already staying in the... More

The gentlemen on the desk were great, very friendly & helpful. Staff & food in kitchen & bistro were also great. The only problems were the fold out beds (couch) were uncomfortable, We could feel the wires, need a thicker base. Also, parking fees of $10 per day in ACT was a bit ridiculous, esp for us mums that come... More

So let's set the picture. We have stayed in this hotel about 5 times. it's in Canberra, converted early accommodation from the 50s. The rooms have always been large and the service pretty good. Last November we had the room from Hell. Room 101, next to reception. The room was very small, one of those rooms where you have difficulty... More

We recently had the privilege of staying at the Mercure in Canberra. The hotel combines old world charm with new world touches. The hotel room in which we stayed had no view. The toilet bowl was unpleasant. The hotel is very central and close to Canberra Centre, the War Memorial and lots more.

A beautiful older hotel. Spotlessly clean. Comfortable bed. Lovely spacious rooms. Loved the extra bedding supplied and warm rooms on entering. Upon arrival we were made to feel so welcome. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Welcome to Mercure Canberra, a part of Canberra's history Originally known as the Hotel Ainslie, Mercure Canberra was built to provide accommodation for public servants relocating to Canberra to support the transfer of the Commonwealth Parliament. It is one of eight remaining government built hotels or hostels from Canberra's first stage of development in the 1920s and is listed in the Register of the National Estate. Mercure Canberra is historically significant for its important role in the development of North Canberra and the forging of its community identity. While maintaining many original features, the hotel embraces the need for 21st century comforts to ensure you feel welcome and have an enjoyable stay. Our 129 guest rooms are well appointed and have been decorated in keeping with the heritage style of the building. Our Standard rooms are located in the Heritage wing, with the layout and style of room not changing from the hotels' original days. For those looking for a more modern layout, you may wish to select one of our Superior or Deluxe Loft rooms in the newer part of the building. Our guests have the option to dine at our onsite Courtyard Restaurant serving modern Australian cuisine in the evening and a choice of Continental or Buffet breakfast in the morning. Those looking for a more casual dining experience can enjoy Bistro style meals from our Olims Bar & Bistro, a favourite spot for hotel guests and locals to mingle, serving Craft Beers & Cider from our very own Lovedale Brewery Our location is ideal. 600m from the Australian War Memorial commemorating those who serve our country, both past and present. Most of Canberra's National Attractions are within 10 minutes' drive from the hotel and the CBD is and easy 10 minute walk away and offers a wide range of cafes, bars and restaurants, as well as shops and a Dendy Movie Cinema. Our team at Mercure Canberra look forward to making you feel welcome when you plan your next stay in beautiful Canberra, Australia ... more   less
