I don't know where to start to describe the holiday I just spent with my husband at Barefoot. Meanwhile, I can say that it was absolutely the most beautiful holiday we have had in many years together.

Let's start from the fact that the organization from arrival at the airport in Malè to arrival at Barefoot is impeccable: a worry-free trip!

Upon arrival you can't believe the beauty of the resort and its beach. White sand, crystal clear water of an intense blue that will take your breath away. We were greeted by a small group of flying foxes on our way through the small forest surrounding the resort - simply adorable.

The resort is immersed in absolute silence: you will only hear the sound of the sea and the voices of the small animals that live among the palm trees. This aspect is very important for those like us who want an absolutely relaxing holiday.

The beach is very large and there is always a free umbrella: those who frequent resorts know that this is not a given.

The rooms are very large (and spotless) and practically 10m from the beach. For us there was no need to even wear a sarong: we already left our room in our swimsuit to jump straight into the sea! ;)

The staff... What can I say?! Everyone smiling, kind and discreet. A note of thanks to the buffet boss (you can't help but taste everything after listening to his presentations!). The buffet? We couldn't believe the quality of the buffet. Every day a fresh fish carpaccio, fresh vegetables, vegetable curry, freshly caught tuna sashimi, expertly cooked white meats, delicious desserts and plenty of papaya. We have never eaten so well in a resort and we never got tired of the dishes served for a single day. The mango ice cream is a delicacy (it's artisanal, made by the chef!).

The excursions are the real strength of this resort. The guides Afif and Federica are simply wonderful and convey all their love for the ocean and its creatures. They were magical excursions to discover a magical world (alien to us who live in the Mediterranean). Meeting the manta rays was touching, what magnificent creatures.

The resort takes great care of the natural spaces that surround it and is a serious eco hotel, it's not about green washing. I'll tell you more: I believe this resort will bring great changes to the island through its innovative vision. Unfortunately, the problem of waste collection is a real and serious problem in the Maldives (you will see it with your own eyes when you go out for a ride from the resort with your bicycle) and I really hope that the Barefoot philosophy becomes a point of reference for the island authorities and why not, even for the Maldivian authorities in high places! We must preserve the magnificent universe of the Maldives at all costs!

I'm still trying to process the beauty I was immersed in during these two weeks of vacation. Meanwhile I already feel a "Maldivian saudade"...

Thank you Barefoot, thank you Maldives.

We had a week's holiday in February and I would go again immediately.
The journey is long, because you need an additional internal flight but they organized everything themselves and it worked well. Try to arrive in Malé in the morning and leave in the evening, to make the most of your time.
The Barefoot is not really a resort because it is on an inhabited island, but it resembles one because it has its own private beach and is completely fenced. The rooms are beautiful, large and well furnished. We ate well (and you can see that there is an Italian who cooks). I extremely appreciated the vegan desserts, which are a rarity to find. More variety would be needed for breakfast, above all there are few savory options and it would be the best (for my next visit) to also have some sweet vegan options. We really appreciated the free water with meals and even two bottles of water a day in the room. They don't sell alcohol, but honestly I don't see the need for it in a paradise like this.
We didn't see any mosquitoes (only a few ants in the room). In general silence reigns. Absolute relaxation is what you will take home. We really appreciated the fact that there was no wifi on the beaches (for those who want, just move 1 meter towards the room or the common areas), which really allows you to unplug with a good book.
The beach has wonderful fine, white sand, which is almost reflective. The sea shows a variety of very beautiful turquoise shades. The sea was warm and swimming was very pleasant. The water tends to become deep immediately. I would say that it is not particularly suitable for children, also because perhaps they would get bored, given that there is no entertainment. I agree with some reviews who claim that in the Maldives you can also find a more beautiful and more transparent sea, but not easily with this quality-price ratio. There is always room on the sunbeds, so no running is necessary. In front of the beach there is a stretch of barrier (rather ruined). I would say that if your priority is snorkeling perhaps this is not the right place because there is actually better in the Maldives. However, in the stretch right in front of the hotel we saw eagle rays, many reef fish and even a couple of sharks. The hotel offers a wide variety of excursions at affordable prices (average around $50 per person). We did the one on the desert island which is wonderful and the one with the manta rays. The excursion with manta rays was one of the most exciting experiences of my life and I recommend it to everyone (among other things it seems that in this stretch of sea you can meet them practically all year round).
Finally I would like to mention that we greatly appreciated the ecological philosophy of the hotel, which manages to combine comfort for guests and respect for the environment. In a fragile environment like that of the Maldives, Barefoot should be a model.
A special mention to the staff, who really do their utmost to make you feel good. Good job, everyone.
Overall, as I said, I would leave again tomorrow morning. I think I'll go back.

Wahoo, magical, a paradise on earth for our 10th wedding anniversary.
2 weeks at Barefoot where we enjoyed ourselves in every way.
The attentive staff, very polite and courteous!
The restaurant is great, the food is good, especially the fresh fish tartars, a treat... different choices for everyone.
We went diving and admired some magnificent fish.
The meal for our 10th wedding anniversary taken on the pontoon was simply royal (extra charge but worth it).
Small village 10 minutes on foot or 5 minutes by bike from the hotel (bike available at the hotel +++ free), with mini market. The hotel does not have an all-inclusive package, so the supermarket provided us with drinks that were much cheaper than at the hotel bar. Small refrigerator in the room.
The rooms are clean, be careful though it would be wise to treat against the appearance of mice or rats and small insects because we unfortunately found small droppings.
Gym available.
We are on the edge of the ocean with really transparent water.
Missing a French-speaking person because for the excursions, I just understood the word Briefing! Although I can slightly understand or speak the basics it is lacking a little.

From the very nice welcome at Hanimadhoo airport to the pleasant short journey on the island and the resort itself, we felt very comfortable from the very first day.

The staff were really super friendly and always went out of their way to meet our expectations. The surroundings were simply fantastic. It was an estimated 20 steps from our room directly to the sun lounger on our own beautiful white beach. The water on the first day was like in a bathtub, only even more beautiful and above all more turquoise.

Every day you could book various excursions, which were really very exciting, including snorkeling with turtles or watching dolphins, so in short, the offer was very varied.

The stay in the room was very comfortable, especially the bathroom was very nicely decorated.

Massage, opportunities to work out as well as yoga before breakfast were offered. The crew were just so lovely.

So, in a nutshell: simply wonderful and very relaxing.

The hotel resort was beautiful, the rooms pleasant and the bathroom large. Breakfast, lunch and dinner have several dishes to choose from. (Certainly even a person who doesn't eat fish will eat it). Tasty.

Staff pleasant and very helpful especially Victor, Shabaj and Sozib. To whom I must thank for making the holiday more enjoyable.

The hotel has its own water center, so for a few CZK you can see the beauty of the sea. (Dolphins, snorkeling, diving, etc.).

Professionalism in the first place.

Gym - if you are an avid weight lifter even on holiday. The gym contains basic equipment like dumbbells, bench press, incline chair, squad rack and some cardio stuff. bench press (narrower, it would definitely need wider and more discs, you'll get to about 80kg, but you can manage it.

We got many things from the hotel PLUS and for free. We stayed here for 10 nights, got a free room upgrade that would normally cost $40 a night. So $800 saved. The difference between the rooms lies in the privacy, location and overall view of the sea, which is about 15 meters away.
We also received drone videos, photos, etc.

victor participated with us in the implementation of various things and never disappointed, I must say that he really enjoys his work and is a handy guy. We received a bunch of beautiful photos and videos from him + one long beautifully edited video. There will definitely be more so thumbs up 👍

CONS:
- the room does not have a TV
- in the evening, ants in the room. (From Darkness)

The barefoot for those seeking tranquility, a sun-kissed beach, magnificent water from the temperature to the colors, it looks like a large swimming pool.
Very comfortable room on the beach, sunbeds available, the resort is surrounded by well-kept vegetation, flowers and plants surround the avenue from the rooms to the restaurant.
The staff is magnificent. Raffaella and her collaborators, as well as Federica, the biologist, are available and ready to give advice and tips for a top holiday.
Gym, spa, yoga, diving and bike ride in the quiet fishing village.
Cuisine for all tastes, from meat to fish, fruit and vegetables well prepared and presented.
Thanks for everything, we'll see you again next winter.

The Hotel exceeded all my expectations! Their dedication to eco-friendly practices are truly impressive. The rooms exuded natural harmony, creating a unique atmosphere of serenity and relaxation.

I must highlight their cuisine – made from fresh, natural ingredients, we are focusing on healthy eating and found a lot of options for us. I thoroughly enjoyed every treat and was impressed by the variety of vegetarian and vegan options.

In summary, The Barefoot Eco Hotel is a true haven for those who appreciate nature, comfort, and wellness. I highly recommend it to anyone dreaming of a unique and environmentally conscious retreat in the Maldives!

What a wonderful stay!
We immersed ourselves between the blue of the ocean and the green of tropical garden and spent a relaxing and enriching vacation.
The rooms are spacious, cleaned, comfortable and with a great sea view: the beauty of waking up in front of a turquoise sea is reinvigorating.
The hotel is mainly done in wood and natural materials, with open space for dining and relaxing, admiring the nature and breathing the sea breeze.
All staff ( all of them!) is very friendly and approachable: smiling and genuinely kind people.
The atmosphere is chilled and relaxed.
Very interesting excursions to explore the sea.
The food was delicious, with great variety and genuine ingredients.
Our family ( 2 adults and 2 kids) had a really great vacation and we hope to come back one day.
This place has our warmest reccomendation and a big shout out to the owner and all the staff for the intelligent approach and offering for rendering this place so welcoming and “different” from the mainstream touristic ones.
Very good job! And we hope to be back one day soon.

To be honest, I rarely write reviews, but this hotel really deserves it! We were lucky enough to spend 14 unforgettable days at Barefoot in the Maldives and it was just amazing!

The excursions here were absolutely fantastic! The manta tour in particular was a highlight of our stay. It was breathtaking and an absolute must! Of course, the other snorkeling excursions were also super great, most of them for a fee, but they are worth it. Affif, as well as Frederike and the whole boat team, ensure unforgettable moments while exploring the underwater world with their relaxed manner.

A big compliment also goes to the diving school and especially to the instructor Charly! He really did his best and ran a great refresher course where I felt very well looked after and learned a lot. The dives in the area were really great and you can see that everyone really tried to get the best out of you.

Another reason why this hotel is just top notch: Chef Venka! Whether we wanted gluten-free food or had special requests, he always made sure we got everything we needed. There were plenty of gluten-free options in the buffet every day - it was just great!

And then there's Victor - he's just the best! He really made our vacation and always surprised us with his warm manner. No matter what we needed, he was always there to help us with any questions or concerns, always with his warm smile.

A big thank you also goes to all the other hotel staff! They tried hard every day and were always there with a smile on their faces. They weren't afraid to engage in small talk and thus contributed to an absolutely pleasant atmosphere.

What also makes this hotel special is the fact that it is located on a local island. This really gives you an insight into the real Maldives and the culture of the locals. Everyone is so warm and friendly - you immediately feel at home!

In the evenings there are often short and longer films and also a bar with snacks and non-alcoholic drinks. In general, however, the evening program is rather quieter and the focus is more on relaxation and peace.

In short, our stay at Barefoot was simply fantastic and we can't wait to come back. I went with my mother, but there really is something for everyone - whether you are traveling alone, with your partner, with friends or family. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is really interested in the nature and underwater world of the Maldives and is not looking for a pure party holiday.

This is a really lovely hotel, it is an eco hotel on an inhabited island, if you are coming to the Maldives for beautiful beaches and fantastic diving with some insight into real Maldivian life it is a great place to stay. If you are coming for 5star luxury then it is probably not the one for you.

The staff at Barefoot we incredibly friendly, we got a very warm welcome on arrival at the hotel. The staff around the hotel and waiters are all very friendly and helpful.

The room was very nice and spacious, we had a beachfront room, you can’t see the sea because of the bushes but it’s literally 10m to the beach.

The food at the hotel was a little disappointing. Breakfast selection was the same everyday. Great omelettes in the morning though. The evening food was ok (not amazing but just ok) but was always only lukewarm, the hot food dishes don’t have heaters underneath them so everything goes cold quickly. Dinner isn’t until 8pm so there was a mad rush to the buffet at 8pm every night which made it quite busy. None of the dishes were labelled so it was a bit difficult to guess what some things were, there were always staff around the ask but when it was busy that was sometimes harder. Ice cream was very nice and different every night. The food in the snack bar was very good though, all freshly cooked to order and much more reasonably priced than the lunch buffet.

The gym was bad! Only one treadmill that works, the others didn’t, the bikes didn’t work and the cross trainer didn’t work. A few rusty weights and a chin up bar

The dive centre at the hotel was really the shining star. The staff were very friendly and professional. They made our diving experience so amazing and were great at pointing out lots of different things. We saw turtles, shark and manta rays. Highly recommend the diving here.

A couple of things to be aware of that we didn’t know before booking. This is a dry island and a dry hotel. There is an offshore boat bar that you can go to but the only way to get there is by boat, you arrive at 6pm and then get collect again at 8pm. It is illegal to take alcohol onto the island to drink in your room, they do scan your bags at the airport.

As the hotel is in the most northern atol you have to get a flight there which is approximately 40-50mins with a few stops at other islands. We had a 4hr wait at Male before the next flight to the island. A hotel rep should meet you at Male to check you onto the flight, but you might have to hunt for them as they were not there when we arrived.

Make sure you put mosquito spray on when at the beach. We didn’t have any problems in the evening but got bitten a lot when sunbathing.

The eco initiatives at the hotel are really great, they are really trying to make a difference with lots of small things like glass water bottles, using a heat exchanger on the air conditioning to heat the water and sourcing local ingredients.

We would recommend to stay here as we had a really lovely time, the beach is stunning and it has a very relaxing feel about the whole hotel.

Dear Simon and Jeni, Warm greetings from the Maldives! Thank you very much for taking the time to share your comments and recommending to stay at The Barefoot Eco Hotel to other travelers. It is great to know that the beauty of our four star resort captured your eyes. It is also a pleasure to read your positive remark in regards to the great, friendly staff and the amazing, professional diving team. We are glad to hear that you appreciated our eco initiatives, as well. Among them a new pesticide-free mosquito management is on place. This program is part of our sustainability commitment since we strive to find alternative eco-friendly solutions to preserve the environment and zero-usage of chemicals that is destructive to our ozone atmosphere. Thank you for sharing your concerns as well. This gives us an opportunity to re-look at our highly maintained standards. Regarding our food offering: kindly note that our Kitchen Team gives their outmost best to offer freshly cooked food. The pastry chefs hand make pastries, cookies, bread every day. We do not label the dishes as it would be better for our international guest having our cooks personally giving a good description rather than reading it foreign from their mother-tongue. Our repeating guests highly values also our multilingual cooks presence at the buffet in order to offer a customized service and give more attention to all guests needs. We are sad to read your negative comments about the gym as we recently added new equipment which is maintained daily. During your stay we had some redundant machines that was unplugged to conserve energy. Just to clarify, our Gym has three treadmills, three bicycle machines, one exercise machine, two adjustable bench press, swat/power rack, 4 barbells and more than enough of weights. If by any chance that any single equipment did not work, for sure our team could have checked and solved promptly the issue. We are sorry if you were not aware that the alcohol can’t be served in local islands, as per the Maldivian law. Since the hotel opening time (2014), we are not allowed to provide alcohol to our guests because we are located on an inhabited island. That's why we can only serve cocktails, wine, beer on the boat bar, which is the best place to enjoy the sunset or stargaze after dinner. The only way to reach Hanimaadhoo Island is by domestic flights operated by the national government carrier Maldivian Aero. Usually there are 5 domestic flights daily connecting Male international airport to Hanimaadhoo. As in our exchange of correspondence for your specific holiday booking, we offer as an extra mile to assist you even to catch a local flight to Hanimaadhoo island by having an hotel counter just in front of the international arrivals gate where our airport representative greet and meet our guests for additional assistance. Once again, thank you for sharing your opinions and we are looking forward to welcoming you back to The Barefoot Eco Hotel. Best regards, Raffaella
