Avoid this place if you can! This was our sixth journey to South Africa where we previously spent totally 18 weeks travelling around. This time we went together with a family of our younger son, four adults and two kids for a shorter trip lasting two weeks. The stay at Saxenburg was intended as a little luxury ending of our trip. We hired estates luxury African Sky apartment which is placed in a separate building. This containes a huge apartment with a lot of space, it was not the problem. The problem was all around with the management. We arrived to the place on a Friday afternoon at about 3 p.m. after a long drive. We found the reception but it was closed. After a phone call opened a slightly irritated lady who just pointed us the house where we would stay and informed us that the reception will be closed over the weekend. She didn’t bother to go with us for showing us around or at least she didn´t ask some from the staff to do so. We got the keys and that was all. We planned to refresh us in the pool and make a barbecue at the picnic spot outside the house. The disappointment was complete. The pool water was green and slimy, covered by fallen leaves, useless. The picnic place was a flipped rusty trough without a grid. We went back to the reception, but this time the door was equipped with the sign – closed. We tried to get help in the wine tasting room and the girl there was really helpful. Next morning came two boys to ourplace and picked up the fallen leaves from the pool and throwed some chemicals into it. It was not much help – the water was still unuseble for bathing. Last but not the least, the door leading to the backyard was not possible to close. When we wanted to check out on Sunday morning, the reception was closed. We decided to leave the keys in the wine tasting room, but we could not pay the bil there. Don´t worry, when we after homecomming checked our account, the money was withdrawen without asking us..... Avoid this place if you can!…
We went here for a wine tasting and lunch at their Cattle Baron. It was myself along with my husband and two other couples. The tasting room assistant was great and so was the wine! Lunch afterwards was a great end to the day's festivities! Will recommend to anyone looking for a spot outside of town (but not too far) with great ambience, wine and food!
Keen on a brief wine tasting ahead of our departure to Johannesburg, we chose Saxenberg Wine Estate. Unknowingly, we entered the resident's private entrance as the gates were open and there was no visible signage. A very unfriendly owner/ manager pointed out our error and hastily chased us off his private property. When we eventually found the wine tasting, the venue was cold, dark and unwelcoming. There were only 2 wines available for tasting as the rest were out of stock!!!! The service was as inhospitable as its owners. I will definitely not recommend such an unmannerly and consumer ambivalent brand! Such a shame.
My girlfriend and I arrived at the wine tasting centre late afternoon. We were given a very friendly welcome from Nola. The whole tasting experience was handled in a very professional manner and without rush. Her enthusiasm about the products they offer kept us there for a long time... so much so that we eventually left 15min after closing time. Oops! We do a lot of wine tastings and this was certainly one of our best experiences so far :)
Visited this winery on a tour and it was quite a delight. The people were so friendly and the wine was incredible. They also served beer for those non-wine drinkers. The food was also very good and would suggest it for a leisurely lunch.
