Dreams Huatulco Resort & Spa is frequently commended for its remarkable service and lively atmosphere, with staff members often receiving high praise for their professionalism and friendliness. The resort's location is another highlight, celebrated for its easy access to stunning beaches and local amenities. While the hotel's cleanliness and diverse pools are appreciated, some guests have expressed concerns over room maintenance and the challenge of securing loungers and shade. Additionally, the value proposition has been questioned, with criticisms focusing on the cost, food quality, and aggressive timeshare pitches.

Arrived Feb 2 around 3:00 pm. Was a bit confusing when checking in as we had upgraded to a Premium room and the check in location was off to the side and just looked like the concierge desk. We were hot and just wanted to take our luggage to our room to change into something cooler but they insisted that they bring up our luggage, which is fine but we were expecting them to be 5-10 min behind us, not the length of time that they were.

Room was nice, the bed was comfortable and the view awesome. Was dated but clean, which is a must for us.

The Premium lounge on the 6th floor consists of 3 tables of 4 and some couches and chairs. They have a small buffet, coffee bar and liquor bar. Food at the buffet in the lounge was luke warm to cold most days in the morning because the warmers were not lit. The serving staff in the lounge were great.

We had an issue with the cleaning staff the first 2 days. Both days we went back to our room between 4:00-4:30 to take a shower, relax and get out of the sun for a bit, it was still not cleaned. We went up to the lounge to have a drink and sit in some air conditioning to wait. I mentioned this to the concierge in the lounge and she fixed the issue going forward. Our room was cleaned before 2:00 pm the rest of the time we were there, which was appreciated.

Again, like most resorts, if you are not up early to crab a lounge chair with shade by either one of the many pools or a palapa at the beach you were out of luck. Sucks when you cannot sleep in and you see chairs sit empty for hours. Watched 1 lady save 8 lounge chairs in a row by throwing a top or towel or hat on them, only to see her and her husband come and use 2 of them 4.5 hours later. Two other chairs were used by their 20 something kids for a total of about an hour and the rest were not used, but nothing removed to allow someone else to use them. Very sad to see people like this, the sense of entitlement some people have.

The food was just ok, either in the buffet or al la carte restaurants that we went to. I would say the Japanese one was both my husbands and myself favourite.
Was disapointed with the drinks around the pool or beach. Most of the time the club soda was flat, the liquor not the best quality, even though we book premium. This was mentioned quite a few times while we were there that once Hyatt took over the property the quality went down, sad to see. Hard to justify paying more for Secrets or Dreams when Barcelo's food and top shelf liquor is better and at a cheaper rate.

What makes this resort and the Huatulco in general are the people. They are hard working and appreciative and I have a great respect for them. This is why we keep coming back to the area. Will I come back to Dreams, maybe, but really enjoyed the Barcelo as much and for a lower cost. So I will wait my choice based on that next time.

I just returned from a fabulous week at Dreams Huatulco! The resort is on the smaller side, compared to other Dreams I’ve stayed at in the past but the beautiful beach more than made up for this. As opposed to Cancun in the summertime, there is zero seaweed here in the water is swimmable with light waves. This is low season for American/Canadian tourists so most of the guests are domestic and only speak Spanish.

As for the resort, since it is off season, not all the restaurants are open each evening. Food was good and lunch limited to buffet at either World Cafe or Seaside/Oceana. We upgraded our room to Preferred and had a beautiful ocean view as well as access to the preferred lounge, which was a bit smaller than others we’ve been to, but they always had good food and great bartenders to make higher quality drinks.

I hired a private tour guide from Gran Turismo Huatulco for one afternoon and we did the seven bays plus snorkeling as well as had lunch at a restaurant on the beach at Playa Maguey. Snorkeling was AMAZING at La Entrega and we saw the biggest sea turtle and so many exotic fish 🐠

We finished the week with dinner in La Crucecita at Le Sabor and had delicious Oaxacan dinner (PS- no AC at this restaurant).

Overall, Huatulco was a really fun find and a nice change from the bigger cities like Cancun and Puerto Vallarta. The E-team was so kind and helpful throughout our stay, and all the staff and locals were extra friendly.

Special shout out to the fabulous E-team for hosting super fun activities throughout the week. My son and I especially enjoyed archery and playing water volleyball each day! Luis, Alnair, Nad, Gabriel, Nef and Eucario are all awesome!

Happy travels ✈️

We visited Dreams for the 4th time over the past 10 years. We love it here as it is always a great relaxing holiday, with very high quality of service and food, and we love the beach location. We find the staff excellent - Eddie our wonderful beach and pool server, Alma who now manages the buffet area for breakfast and Julio who does a wonderful job of managing all the ala carts.
We find the rooms extremely clean and had great service with the bar fridge being topped up.
We love all the beach and pool areas, and although we don’t rise before sunrise to get a spot at the selected pools, never had an issue with not having a pool chair or beach view. The water here is very safe and there are lots of fish to see when snorkeling. The sand gives a great walk and you can get a good work out doing the water aerobics which were taught by Luis and Gabriel and their teams.
Having been previously, we did find a little less evening entertainment as we were used to music every evening in the lounge and now it seems hit and miss. We also found this bar closes at 11 pm so no late night partying - we are of the age we don’t do as much of that as previous years - but younger crowds might find it a bit boring. There are still lots of water activities to do and the days would be filled. We love the eternity pools and views. The 2 evenings that there was entertainment in the courtyard, they close a few of the other restaurants, so you are limited for choices those evenings. But the quality of food is very good and we never had a day where we were hungry.
You will find this to be a clean reasonably priced resort, and the weather is always so awesome in Huatulco that you can’t miss on that if you like sunshine, heat and ocean temperatures that are refreshing. We met up with a few other couples that were staying in the area, and we still feel we got the best quality over all. And of course the staff are the friendliest best people you could find. It is always OUR pleasure to stay at Dreams Huatulco!

We have just returned to our Vancouver Island February climate from a wonderful twelve days at Dreams.Huatulco is a beautiful region of Oxaca . Not yet too crowded and hopefully will not become so as it is surrounded by National Park . The coast line includes several long bays and the country behind the coast is impresive with the Sierra Madre Mountains .
Dreams was great. The staff are wonderful seemingly cheerful and always ( apparently) happy to help me with my elementary but workin g Spanish. The beach is clean and safe, though there is a slight undertow when going in but which is not felt after the firs fifteen feet or so . Pools are plentiful for families, children and adults only. As with many resorts there is some competition for preferred poolside seats.Restaurants inlude a cheerful Asian, the Portofino (Italian ambience and menu) a poolside grill and Seafood restaurant and the large buffet. We enjoyed Cocos the quiet and cool coffee bar where a variety of sandwiches and pastries were served together with all manner of coffee and tea beverages and some ice cream. This was open for 24 hours.
Entertainments were excellent but repeated during the second week " Special days include Valentines and Superbowl! Red rose in bedrooms for Valentines. I enjoyed a daily Spanish lesson expertly handled by Alnair and Gabriel!
The rooms were comfortable with plenty of amenities and all seemed to have a view of beach and pools. We did not stay in Preferred rooms however these seemed to overlook a central plaza which at times could be a bit noisy I suspect. I wonder weather the extra cost is worth it.
Our holiday was arranged by West Jet Vacations and seemed to offer a very good value compared with booking flight and hotel separately. Maxi Tours provided some well managed local tours (Sandra is excellent local representative) La Crucecita and severaother costal towns and villages are well worth visiting as are The Magic Waterfalls and a boat trip along the Coast seeing whales, dolppins , snorkeling facilities and beaches to die for.
A great resort vacation.

my recent stay at Dreams Huatulco from July 20, 2024, to July 23, 2024, for my birthday. Upon arrival, the transportation service did not meet the standards that I had paid for. I had booked a private transportation service with snacks and drinks, but upon arrival, only water and beer were provided, with no snacks as promised.

Although we were warmly greeted at the property, several issues greatly impacted our experience. We had to wait for our room to be ready as we arrived early, and during this time, we noticed several cleanliness and maintenance issues around the property. The breakfast experience at the World Cafe was particularly disappointing, with flies present around the food and an unpleasant odor in the restaurant. This ultimately led to me feeling unwell and vomiting after my meal.

Furthermore, upon entering our room, we were dismayed to find it in a poor state. The walls and furniture were dirty and worn, the bathroom floor was unclean with dirt in the tile cracks, the mirrors were rusted, and the towels provided were discolored and rough. This lack of cleanliness made us uncomfortable, and we opted not to shower during our entire stay, using bottled water to freshen up instead.

Additionally, my niece fell ill after returning from an excursion, and I became sick on the second day of our stay, requiring medication from the on-site pharmacy. The presence of flies was a recurring issue, even during meals at the Seaside Grill. The persistent sales approaches from locals on the beach also made us feel uneasy, prompting us to stay in our rooms for the majority of our visit.

Despite the efforts of staff members like Lekesha and Alberto to assist us, the overall quality of our experience fell short of expectations. While the hotel manager offered a room upgrade, I declined as I felt that this gesture would not address the fundamental cleanliness and maintenance issues throughout the property.

In conclusion, I must emphasize that my stay at Dreams Huatulco was far below the standards of a 4.5-star hotel and instead resembled that of a 3-star establishment. This experience was extremely disappointing and unsettling for both myself and my family.

I trust that you will take my feedback seriously and address the concerns raised to prevent similar issues for future guests.

You have probably been made aware by now of the Air Conditioning issue at Dreams Huatulco Resort & Spa. There was no air conditioning in our room for the whole two weeks that we stayed at this resort.
Upon entry to our room, we noticed a strong odour of mustiness and mildew and a room temperature of 26.5 degrees. For the total stay, the room temperature never dropped below 24 degrees. I approached Management three times about the A/C and received three different answers. We had to run the ceiling fan all day and all night. We closed the curtains when we went down to the pool, but the maid always opened up the curtains when she cleaned the room. So we had to leave a note every morning to ask her to leave the curtains closed during the day.
Room Issues:
We were also constantly short of bathroom towels/facecloths and bath mats on a daily basis. Our soap dispenser was empty for two days. We took out soap bottle from the bracket in the shower area to put it on the counter so the maid could see that it was empty and refill. It was quite obvious the maid wasn't checking the Shampoo/soap dispensers. We came up to our room late afternoon and found that the dirty sheets were forgotten as they were left under a counter in the hallway. The room fridge leaked water onto the tile floor make for a very slippery area, we had to put a towel down so we would not slip. The room door took a major effort to open (sticking)
Dining Area's
In the Dining areas we were constantly searching or asking for Condiments (jam & peanut butter) and Spoons. We also found we had to ask for salt and pepper every time we sat down at a table. If there were salt and pepper at the tables....most times they were empty. Long lineups in the closed in Buffett, failure to replenish dishes and we had to wait to be served, as this resort did not remove the barriers from helping yourself to food, which created long line ups as there wasn't enough staff behind the counter to serve guests. The resort finally removed these barriers 2 days before we left and it made such a difference...no lines! Often times we could not find butter or spoons at the BBQ/Mexican grill nights, even though there was bread/buns. The Pools are top notch. Food is so-so. The list of defects for Dreams could easily continue and does not deserve it high ranking (4.6)

Beautiful resort in a beautiful part of Mexico. The hotel, including our rooms were very clean and well kept. Service was friendly, efficient, and fast. There were many options for pools, and a great beach location. The beach was pristine, with lots of fish to see. Shade was abundant for those want the option. We were a party of 6 people, and we had virtually no wait for any restaurant. There were 2 "theme" dinners while we were there, where space was set up outside. Both were really well done. Food was average for an all inclusive, but I preface this with us being spoiled for great food where we live. The location was great. The Dreams was located on the best part of the bay. It was very close (5-20 mins) from the Marina and the local town. Huatulco was referred to a "the hidden gem". It felt exceptionally safe. Due to the flights coming into the airport, most guests were Canadian or Mexican Nationals. A few points: we upgraded to the preferred club, which included a dedicated area of the beach that was close to amenities, however, it would have been great to have a dedicated pool area as well. People were securing chairs at 6am, which is not uncommon during peak travel times, and will change with guest demographics for the week. However, as a party of 6, having the preferred option by the pool, to limit having to set an alarm on vacation, would certainly enhance the experience. Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel based on the cleanliness, seamless service, a great variety of dining options both with the restaurants and special events, and the location.

Our family arrived in Huatulco for the first time ever on December 4, 2024 so this is a very recent review. In this review I am going to lay out some good and some not so good points but I want to be crystal clear that I would definitely come back to this resort.

Resort: The resort is dated like a lot of other resorts. The resort is very clean and always has someone working to ensure it is as clean as can be. Very impressed.

Rooms: We were in an ocean view room and had a great view from all three rooms we had. Everything was stocked daily, the room was extremely clean and the staff was excellent in addressing any needs.

Staff: Here is where I want to spend most of the time because I feel the staff make or break a vacation. Genaro from the Preferred Club Lounge was amazing. He always took the time to address the food in the Lounge along with making sure everyone had a drink or whatever they needed. He was top notch. Sandy at the Preferred Club Beach was incredible. She would see you coming every day and would have all of the chairs outlined, sometimes even before you got there. She took the time to speak with people and ensure their experience was very good. She also ensured that only Preferred Club people were in this area which is a rule that some resorts don't follow. Very nice to see. Eddie at the pools and beach bar area was also really good at what he does. Eddie would always ensure that everyone was taken care of in terms of drinks and worked incredibly hard all the time. Eddie also took the time to get to know his clients and you could see that he genuinely enjoyed his job.

Beach: The beach was always clean and well taken care of. This is one area of Huatulco that you can actually swim in the water where the rip tides are not bad. The staff was always around picking up any garbage, dirty dishes etc. Very nice to see.

Food: Before I get into the food, I want to preface that all of the restaurants were very good with excellent food so I do not need to comment on them. Good menus and excellent food.

Where I think that Dreams has fallen down is in the quality and variety of food at the buffet's. I found that the food was average at best and lacked any variety. When I spoke with other people the comment on the food was basically Meh..... not bad by any means but just not good. Dreams is touting themselves as a five star resort and for the most part they are but the food at the buffets unfortunately drop them to a 3 star and I think Dreams can do better than that.

Overall, our vacation was amazing and I would come back in a second. You will not be disappointed by coming here, just know that the buffet selection is not going to be knock it out of the park like other resorts. Hope that helps

We vacationed at Dreams in early November as a couple (WestJet vacation). Transfers to and from the airport (20-25 min) were seamless; much less busy than Cancun. Upon arrival at Dreams we were welcomed with a glass of champagne and a cool cloth to freshen up - the friendly staff made us feel very welcome! Check-in was smooth and our bags were delivered to our room promptly. Our room faced the adults only pool and was very quiet; even had a jacuzzi tub on the balcony! The resort was easy to get around as it is smaller. We enjoyed the App that had everything you needed to know about the resort at our fingertips. No wrist bands or reservations were needed and we loved this, Our favourite restaurant was Himitsu (oriental) with waiter Giovani taking good care of us. We enjoyed a couples massage and hydrotherapy at the beautiful spa as well as a romantic dinner on the beach, which was served by the pleasant Miguel. Carlos and Eduardo served us breakfast with a smile every day, The entertainment/activities staff Nad and Luis were so much fun in the pool! Huatulco is a gem of a place; beautiful weather and very friendly people. We would not hesitate to recommend Dreams Resort and Spa!

We had a great vacation at Dreams ! This is our second time at Dreams (last time was over 10 years ago) and some things are the same and few things have changed.
The weather was perfect and the ocean was so therapeutic ! Mostly calm, blue and clear water ! The beach while also beautiful is a lot steeper than it was years ago so not quite as easy to walk on. The adults only pool was very nice and quiet. The whole area is so beautiful !

Our room was very nice and close to the pool and the beach.
I think the best thing about this resort is the staff ! Everyone from the front desk, bartenders, servers, cleaning staff were so friendly, helpful and very hard working !! Mario the concierge was awesome ! He would come by and chat with us and let us know about the special events that were happening that day. I wish I could remember the names of the other amazing staff! They were all great !

The only thing thing that we were a bit disappointed with was some of the food. My husband had the mahi mahi fish at the Sea Side Grill and it was bone dry and he could not eat it. But then our friend ordered it and he said it was moist and great. We found that the meat at the special events buffets were also very dry. We had one really great meal at the Porta Fina restaurant and then the second meal my chicken was so dry that I could not eat it. We did enjoy the food at the Asian restaurant. So for us the food was hit and miss !

All in all we had a great time and would recommend Dreams Huatulco

Yes, there are two spots where you can smoke. Facing the beach, one bench is located at the centre of the resort and the other bench is on the left side.

they have 5 pools - 3 are infinity pools facing the beach and they are large. They have shallow spots for the the loungers. Great setup but have to get their early (ie. 7 a.m.) to get a good spot as people throw their towels down early

"Definitely visit La Crucecita. Makes sure you bring pesos . Huatulco is not cheap! Everything at resort that is extra, is extra cost $$$. Going to town is same as CND."
