In the summer of 2007 this delightful villa was transformed into a small luxurious and charming hotel. La Madrugada offers 7 extremely stylish bedrooms, 1 exclusive suite with a private balcony and Jacuzzi, a comfortable lounge with a bar and a library. During the day tasty snacks and light meals are served, if required. You are most welcome to dine in our comfortable gastronomic restaurant Casa Del Maco which is only a few kilometres away.

From the moment you set foot into La Madrugada you are made to feel extremely welcome by Pieter and his gorgeous cocker spaniel Sammy. Nothing is too much trouble, and his attention to detail does not go unnoticed.

We were staying three nights as two couples for our friend’s 25th Wedding Anniversary and I had asked Pieter to arrange flowers in our friend’s room which were beautiful.

The views at La Madrugada are spectacular looking down onto the rock at Calpe. The terrace is large with extremely high quality loungers and tables and chairs. The pool is large and beautifully clear. There are only 8 rooms so it is never crowded, and there is plenty of space for everyone to feel they are in their own piece of Spanish luxury.

This was our second visit and did not disappoint. I remembered that Pieter was a gin lover and the last time I had my very first Nordes gin -a Spanish gin from Galicia. Once again we sipped our nordes and fevertree tonic with a slice of orange looking across the terrace down to Calpe..... just magic!

Pieter prepares an excellent continental breakfast and snacks are also available at lunchtime. He does not cater for evening meals. Either you go out as we did one night to one of the very many restaurants in the region, OR Pieter will arrange for a local restaurant to deliver. Choices are varied from Italian to Indian and also included an excellent Spanish menu which we also tried.

I cannot recommend La Madrugada highly enough for couples who like that little bit extra for a few days away who want some peace and relaxation, and particularly if they enjoy gin!

Thank you Pieter for a fabulous weekend and we will be back!

Perched high on a hillside overlooking the Mediterranean, La Madrugada is the perfect spot for a quiet getaway. The hotel, which was once the private Villa of Sarah Brightman, has only 8 rooms. We were among the last guests before it closed due to Covid-19 and could not have been more delighted. Pieter, the owner is a gracious host and very helpful in every way. Sumptuous breakfasts are served on the beautiful glassed in terrace overlooking the pool and the distant sea. Although Madrugada does not serve dinner, Pieter happily can order from one of the nearby restaurants which serve some of the freshest seafood we have tasted.

We stayed in one of the Deluxe doubles with a pool and sea view. The room was extremely comfortable and well provisioned with direct access to the pool terrace. The hotel itself is a bit off the beaten path but very private with an electronic gate.

We look forward to our return.

We had nine nights at this lovely place and thoroughly enjoyed it. A charming venue with great hosting by Pieter and Maya. Gorgeous surroundings, spacious and well appointed rooms and a fabulous view of Calp from the pool area. Pieter was so helpful, suggesting local trips and making arrangements where necessary. Would definitely go there again. Cath and Dave Bott

Hotel La Madrugada is one of those small quiet out of the way hotels that we like so much. We'd flown to Alicante airport and picked up a car there. We decided to go on the non-toll roads so it took us about an hour and a quarter to get to Benissa, at which point we realised we'd missed the hotel turning at it's a couple of km outside of Benissa (if you're coming from Valencia on the other hand, you need to go through Benissa to get to it). Either way, pay attention to the hotel's written directions and keep an eye out for the km marker on the main road! The entrance from the road (plot 64b) is secured by an automatic gate. Buzz the buzzer and someone will open the gate for you.

Once inside you can forget about the world outside apart from what you can see of it from the dining and pool areas that look up to the spectacular hills and down to the town of Calpe with its prominent rock Peñón de Ifach.

We had room No. 1 which is a poolside room with its own covered outside seating area. The room and the whole hotel were very tastefully decorated and exceptionally clean. The main staff, Theo and Emma, are very friendly, helpful and always pleasant to talk to.

The room had air conditioning, a ceiling fan and floor standing fan. The air con is currently part of the overall hotel system; this had been playing up when we were there. All the same we managed to sleep okay after it had been 30 degrees plus during the day.

The hotel provides breakfast and lunch but does not server evening meals. For that you can go to the sister hotel the Casa Del Marco, or one of the local towns / villages. You will need a car / taxi though.

It is extremely quit here. There’s no road noise (well the odd motorcycle) there's no industry, pubs or noisy nightclubs around. There is a railway track close by and the odd train passes. Mostly though it is just the sound of the breeze in the palms and cicadas. Ah, there is one thing; there is background music on the whole time. It is at a very low volume and not intrusive. We didn't ask for it to be turned down or off, but I feel sure they would oblige if that's what you wanted.

We spent most of the time on the sun loungers by the pool. Nice fresh towels available each day, no post-breakfast scrum to bag a bed as there's enough to go round. In the large gardens there are various other seating areas, a tennis court and orchards to wander around in, if that takes your fancy.

For no particular reason, we never sat in the bar or lounge.

In summary, we've had a thoroughly relaxing five nights here. We'd gladly go back and recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing holiday.

“A haven of peace and tranquility". We stayed at this delightful hotel for two nights and as there was only one other person staying, it was like having your own private villa. The owner Bert was very amiable, he was in the process of transferring the business to a charming Dutch lady. We had a well furnished garden suite with an impressive bathroom. The views looking out to sea were spectacular. Even though it was March we were able to enjoy these views from the poolside sun beds. The only slight drawback was that as the hotel was so secluded and had no restaurant you either had to drive or arrange for a taxi to go out for an evening meal. Having said that one night we got a taxi to Casa del Maco a hotel and restaurant associated with La Madrugada where the location and food were amazing. The taxi fares were expensive though. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.

Okay. You may see I am not a frequent reviewer. I travel a lot with my wife and to be honest most places we stay are bolt holes to lay our heads down. I only comment when a place is superlative. This is most certainly the case here.

Recently we planned a trip with friends to Spain and they said they liked Boutique type places to stay so we took their lead. As we headed in the direction of La Madrugada we were a bit nervous. It's a dirt/stone road off the main road and does not appear to be the entrance to heaven which it turns out to be.

You come up to electronic gates and after a quick chat on the intercom the gates open and you drive in. The proprietor should have warned us. The whole scene is awesome. Everything is top notch, the stone laid drive, the hand crafted doors, the marble floors, the view to die for, the open air breakfast area, the crystal clear pool. The fresh towel laid seating areas.... We were not even in the room yet! The rooms are all different and designed by the wife of the gentleman who owns the establishment with him. Nothing is too much trouble and his little touches (bringing out a blanket for the ladies while we sat around the pool in the evening was pure class)

The detail and quality in the rooms will have you rethinking your home decor. He said the renovation took many months with 25 workers, it shows! He showed us the upstairs suite and it was as good as any I have seen, New York, Paris, Italy. You name it

Breakfast is a dream. Fresh homemade bread from their restaurant, pastry, cold meats, fresh juice, melon, coffee, tea, did I mention the fresh bread! Weight gain is at no extra charge. The owners adult children are always tending to the pool area or the breakfast patrons. They definitely have their parents ability to give you a fantastic experience.

I am currently sitting in room 8 with its super comfy bed and bathroom from the book of dreams. We eave shortly and are already planning our return visit

This customer from New Jersey and Now living in the UK is VERY impressed. I could not find fault here and nor will you.

Peter

As many others have said before us, this is a fantastic hotel, and experience. You truly feel as though you are in the home of a friend,Pieter and his assistant Anna have perfected the knack of being attentive, but unobtrusive. When we were there there were only another 3 couples staying, who went out during the day, so we had the place to ourselves, adding to the illusion that this was our home from home. Breakfast is varied and plentiful, and the snack menu available throughout the day has enough choices to offer variety. Whilst there are a couple of restaurants who will deliver to the property for an evening meal, when you have spent all day lying by the glorious pool soaking in the amazing views over Calp, it’s only right that you visit either Benissa or Calp for your dinner (though it does mean one has to drive!) both locations offer a choice of eateries, and if you follow Peiter’s recommendations you won’t go far wrong. I cannot recommend this venue highly enough, and I think we have finally found our secret bolt hole where you truly feel as though you are staying at a friends. I would love to offer some criticisms to try and put you off visiting this hotel, but they would be lies. Everything was perfect and by far the best hotel I used in the area in over 20 years.

Once you have found the hotel you are in for a real treat. A fantastic view to the sea in the distance and a beautiful pool. The house is very comfortable with 8 bedrooms, a lovely open sided dining area facing the pool and views plus an honesty bar and library.
Quiet air conditioning in the bedrooms with quality fixture and fittings.
The whole place is relaxing and quiet. Your host Pieter is on hand to help at all times.
Breakfast is excellent.
To get there take the road from Calpe to Bennissa and take a very sharp right 50m after sign past 174km and four market posts, just before the left hand bend sign. From Bennissa continue past 174km sign until u turn on right, after u turn follow instructions from Calpe.
Have a great time.

Peter does snacks which are excellent. There are hundreds of restaurants but not within walking distance. However Peter has a menu for a local restaurant which you can order from and then he picks it up and serves you in the breakfast restaurant. Can't recommend this hitel highly enough. Please feel free to ask any further questions and I will help if I can
