Kicheche Laikipia is an eco-award-winning small luxurious tented camp nestled in the shadows of Mount Kenya at the foot of an indigenous forest overlooking a waterhole. The camp’s squeaky green safari chic marries beautifully and sensitively with the natural highs of her surrounds in the wilderness zone of Ol Pejeta Conservancy.

I spent three nights in Kicheche Laikipia plateau. The location of the tree tented camp is excellent, being lacated in the central area of Laikipia plateau. Among the 6 tents, 4 have a direct view on a waterhole, where a lot wild animals (e.g.: impalas, warthogs, giraffes, elephants) and birds come to drink during the day . Because the camp is unfenced, you eat and sleep in the middle of the wildlife. The tents are well equipped and clean; the beds are very comfortable.
Excellent hospitality of the staff and of the manager Andrew who is the key stone of the lodge. Andrew comes to see you after each safari, asking you how the safari was. Moreover, if you are interested, he can make reservation (if you wish) for activities like lion tracking (with the rangers of the conservancy) and visit to patrolling dogs; these were unforgettable experiences!!!
The food is also excellent. The lunch is taken with Andrew and the other guests, which is greatly enjoyable. Andrew talk with the guests of the history, fauna, birds, flora, trees of Laikipia plateau. Indeed, you are immersed in the wildlife surroundings .
Moreover, exceptional level of knowledge and competence of the guide Peter, allowing to see many animals (lions, cheetahs, leopard, spotted hyena cugs, bat eared fox cubs, Grevy zebras, reticulated giraffes, Jackson hartebeests...) during morning and afternoon game drives. You can also ask for night game drives, which allowed us to meet serval cat and nocturnal animals (porcupines, zorillas, bushbabies...)
Altogether, if you want to have an authentic and unique experience of wildlife, I HIGHLY recommend to stay in Kicheche Laikipia camp.

We stayed three nights and loved every minute. The game drives at Ol Pejeta conservation area were fantastic as was our guide. Lots of rhinos, elephants, and lions as well. There are only six tents, one of which is a family tent with two bedrooms. Our standard tent was spacious with a view of the savannah. The view also includes the adjacent water hole which unfortunately was nearly dry due to poor rainfall. The tent had inside bathroom including dual sinks and shower with 24-hour hot water available. Flashlight, umbrellas, and even galoshes are provided in the tent; fortunately, we only had use for the flashlight. Service was attentive and personal including escort to and from our tent after dinner or before a pre-dawn game drive. Food was fantastic and prepared by a gourmet chef. Chateaubriand in the bush—why not? Food preferences as provided by our tour company were noted and honored as well. No hanging chandeliers here, just a wonderful, luxurious, and unpretentious safari experience.

Travelled here in mid June where we spent 3 fabulous nights in the camp.

From our pick up at Laikipia Air strip to our departure I cannot fault the service we received from the staff at this camp.

We were welcomed in by Emily and her team who strived to ensure everything was in order and just as we wanted throughout our stay. Nothing ever appeared to much trouble.

The tent we were accommodated in had everything we needed and more. The beds were comfortable and the hot water bottle touch of an evening and fresh tea, coffee and cookies in a morning made it even more welcoming. Hot water was not an issue and towels and toiletries were supplied within. Laundry was done daily if required and returned the next day. A lovely touch when travelling light.

I couldn't complain at the food which was provided morning, noon and night. Never did I feel I had a bad meal and I certainly never went hungry as they do like to ensure you are well fed.

Our camp guide - Albert was superb. He knew his stuff about the Conservancy and the various animals located within it. He strived to get the best viewing spots and angles for photographs of the animals and didn't disappoint with what he delivered on.

I would have no hesitations in returning to this camp in the future. The unique small and intimate setting of the camp certainly left a remarkable mark on me that I will never forget. I would highly recommend, it won't disappoint.

This is the second time we’ve stayed here. A really peaceful setting in the middle of Ol Pejeta conservancy. It over looks a waterhole so there’s always something to see.
Staff are very friendly. Tea and coffee delivered to your tent before morning game drives. All food is really tasty and presented well. Tents all overlook the waterhole and are very well decorated and kitted out with; Dressing gowns, Wellington boots, umbrellas, vase of flowers, nice shampoo/conditioner/body wash. Seats both inside and outside. Bed INCREDIBLY comfortable and hot water bottle put in bed at turn down service.
Lunch and breakfast are served outside the Mess tent, in very pretty setting watching all the birds and animals at the waterhole.
Mess tent, where dinner is served and there is a communal sofa area, is very lovely and cosy with a fireplace at each end.
Plenty of hot water (although the water is a bit greasy).
Plenty of drinking water and a nice water bottle for to take away. A thoughtful welcome card in room on arrival.
They did a nice touch for my husband’s birthday breakfast too.
Would definitely recommend.

We loved the small size of the camp, only 5-6 tents… the delicious food… but over all we want to highlight the warm hospitality that manager Louise made us feel.

She is in all little details. Always there, early in the morning, late at night, to make sure her guests are fine, the staff doing their work… logs in the fire, fresh flowers… superb!

The hot chocolate she suggested to bring us at 6 am at our tent before leaving to a safari on such a cold day is unforgettable. Small details that makes you feel so taken care.

Don’t hesitate, this is the lodge if visiting Samburu.

Relax and enjoy!

Another lovely Kicheche camp! This was the third Kicheche camp I’ve stayed at, and while the core offering is the same, the camp manager, staff and guide all gave it a personality of its own.

Anita is a lovely person and a wonderful camp manager. As a solo traveler, I appreciated being welcomed like an old friend and also looked after during my stay. Her stories of her years working around Africa are fun and her attention to guests’ needs is top notch.

Peter was my guide and he is absolutely a gem. I was lucky to have a few game drives alone with him and learned a lot about his background in guiding and some of his favorite sightings. He also conjured up a bunch of amazing sightings for me, including a hard to find cheetah and an unbelievable encounter with a pride of lions after sunset. He’s an incredibly nice guy and someone guests would be lucky to have as their guide!

The Kicheche tents are impeccably thought out, with in-room charging and electricity, non-bucket showers (yay!) and a lovely view of the large watering hole. The food is incredible, as it is at all Kicheche camps, especially for me as a vegetarian. I never felt like an after-thought or went without an excellent meal.

I so enjoyed my time here and was sad to have to leave.

Ol Pejeta is a beautiful place to visit, and guests really ought to take advantage of a visit to the remaining two northern white rhinos. It is a poignant, but so important, visit.

I will return to Kicheche Laikipia, not if, but when I return to Kenya!

The staff, accommodations and most importantly the game drives were all incredible! The camp sits inside the Ol Pejeta Conservancy which not only has incredible wildlife but diverse landscapes. As our first stop on our two week trip we couldn't have been happier. We saw elephants, lions, zebras, of course the amazing rhinos, and event spotted two cheetahs.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by our fabulous host Louise and her adorable three legged dog Splooch. From the welcome drinks and towels to the review of our food preferences, everything was seamless. The camp has 6 tents along with the main dining room and main gathering tent. Our individual tent was spacious and comfortable with dual sinks and hot running water. Laundry is done daily. Wake up calls come complete with hot coffee and cookies and turn downs include hot water bottles to keep you warm at the high elevation.

The food was all delicious and everyone accommodated our preferences. The bush breakfasts had so many options and Albert found the perfect spots to enjoy the views and wildlife. Lunch and dinner were enjoyed with other guests and each course was fabulous. We had a surprise visit by a herd of elephants as we were enjoying lunch on our second day. And of course the sundowners!

Albert, our guide, was incredible. We learned so much from him and felt like friends by the time we left. He shared information not only on the animals but also the flora and fauna. We loved the night game drive we did here- complete with hot chocolate and hot water bottles to keep us warm. The stars are breathtaking.

The endangered species enclosure with the rhinos was a special and very informative visit. While the story is very sad, the keepers are doing an amazing job and we are hopeful they are successful in breeding the Northern White Rhinos.

We can't recommend this spot enough. They exceeded all our expectations!

Our first ever safari, but absolutely blown away by the whole experience! Firstly our amazing guide Dixon, who delivered on every request we made...he found the cheetah and leopard who are both rare in these parts, the time spent with him were incredible, a great guy and so informative with our endless questions. We saw just about everything in just 3 days, there was nothing he couldn’t find! The staff back in camp, Anita and naftali the camp managers, Joshua, Juma and Charley, the servers plus the chefs and security guys with our morning welcome and tray of tea and cookies, every single person made us feel so welcome and couldn’t do enough for you. We had a welcome committee on arrival, plus a send off and welcome when going out on our drives. The accommodation was fantastic, great location watching the elephants, zebra etc at the ‘bottom of the garden’ when they came to drink in the swamp. The tents were immaculate, spacious, thanks to the housekeepers for the hot water bottles placed in our beds each night. There were so many little extras such as hot water bottles and ponchos for the cold morning drives...this company have literally thought of everything to make your holiday so comfortable, we were treated like royalty! The food was amazing too so beautifully cooked and presented...and so much of it!! ( going home the size of a hippo!) a big thank you to all at Kicheche Laikipia!

Lovely small tented camp on a water hole in Ol Pejeta conservancy. The food was outstanding! Lunch was served overlooking the water and dinner was served in dining tent. Even though Kenta is on the equator, the altitude and Mt Kenya keep the temperature much cooler than expected. The camp provides nice warm ponchos and hot water bottles for chilly morning games drives. In addition to games drives, you can sign up for several conservation trips to see Northern white rhinos, chimpanzee rescue center and lion tracking. All are worthwhile.

Stayed with Louise and her team end Jan and were fortunate enough to be the only guests at the camp with international travel slow to take off following COVID relaxations. Having been confined to UK for ~2 years it was bliss to be back in Africa, sharing our time with wonderful hosts, being treated like kings and queens and enjoying the peace, tranquillity and magic of this camp sitting on an active watering-hole offering lots of action from Eland to Buffalo to Elephant. The camp is well designed, beautifully maintained and very homely. Louise, the camp manager, couldn't have been a more engaging, friendly and at times funny host who went out of her way to get to know us and vice versa. In fact, one of the most genuine and sincere camp managers we've encountered. The food was some of the best we've experienced with lots of fresh, interesting and healthy ingredients offering light bites at lunch followed by a 3 course a la carte in the evening, as we sat opposite the roaring fire enjoying silver service and friendly banter with Louise. We went to Ol Pejeta Conservancy especially for the Rhino and weren't disappointed with the privilege of going to meet the remaining two Northern White Rhino and to hear about the breeding programme that will, hopefully, bring them back from the brink of extension. Albert, of guide, was nothing but accommodating with one of the highlights being a night drive where we got to experience three new `firsts' being Porcupine, White Tailed Mongoose and a Zorilla. Watching a Bush Baby bouncing along the ground was hysterical! Everything about this camp met or exceeded our expectations and being our first trip to Africa in ~2 years, and first ever to Kenya, we couldn't have been happier to have chosen Kicheche Laikipia. The star of the show was Louise who we found truly to be a warm, interesting and funny person and whom we left feeling like we'd known all our lives! Not to take away anything from the rest of the team who delivered great service always with a smile!
