I spent five days in Grann Kaz and it was not a good and unforgettable experience. The building is beautiful in and outside, but the location is in the middle of nowhere: no facilities nearby, nobody around, only dogs, a lot of bats and mice in the beach that it is far from the house. For this reason It was essential to’ have a car.

This is our second visit to Grann Kaz in the past 6 months and we’re glad we came back again. This time we brought our daughter and booked two standard rooms. Although they were not adjoining, they were side by side which made us feel happy she was close by and her happy to have her own space. Both rooms had their own bathroom, a private veranda and outside dining table, and ours a kitchen. Grann Kaz is a small hotel with just 7 rooms, based on the south western coast of the island at Anse a La Mouche. The hotel has only been open a couple of years and is immaculately maintained. Rooms offered are classified as standard, superior and deluxe and ideally suited for couples and families. The hotel stands just 3 minutes walk from the beach, with another 3 or 4 nice beaches within a 10 minute drive. There 2 restaurants by the beach, with several others within a 15 minute drive. The hotel offers both breakfast and dinner which are both excellent, but we chose to eat out most evenings, and made use of the kitchen in our room to make breakfast. Why stay at Grann Kaz ? Well if you are like us and want to spend an independent holiday away from the large resorts with the freedom to explore the island, you could not choose a better base. You do not need a car as there is a good public transport service across the island, but I would recommend a car in order to visit different beaches and restaurants. We have always been made to feel very welcome from both the owner, Mavis as well as the housekeepers, Alexandra and Anniele. Nothing is too much trouble for them and their cheery smiles means your day al start right. Our bed and bathroom were regularly dressed with flowers, and during our stay a wedding group had their veranda beautifully decorated with palms and flowers, an unexpected but lovely touch that makes your stay just that little bit more special.

The house is new and super clean, spacious enough for a big family, with good Wi-Fi and satellite TV.. Small shops, bus stop and the beach are within 5 min walking distance. Kitchenettes are well equipped so you can make food for the family, alternatively, meals can also be arranged for you. Mavis is very attentive to all the requests, most hospitable host we ever met - will give you directions around the island, advise, order a taxi for you if needed, etc. We had an amazing unforgettable vacation there and hope to come again!

Grann Kaz is a lovely hotel more of a service apartment with clean and huge room, a kitchen with induction heater and basic utensils. I believe it's a new property just off Anse La Mouche in Mahe. The location is scenic with beach just approximately 5 min away and a very green hill on one side of the hotel. It is run by very sweet Mavis Lafortune who was super helpful in helping us with directions to the hotel ( Google maps did not have the location since it's a new property I guess) but then again it was not difficult to reach there. Hotel is good WiFi connection in all the rooms and satellite TV. You can make unlimited local calls from the room phone but international calls are charged. Beach towers are available at the reception but you can only change them alternate day. We were served breakfast in our private balcony with the view of the hill. If you want dinner you can let the support staff know a day earlier and they cook some delicious food. ( Food otherwise is Seychelles is expensive and not that great. We could find really tasty food at a restaurant called La Gaulette which was recommended by Mavis. Thank you Mavis! Main gate closes at 11 pm and reopens at 7 am. If you plan to come late or leave early do inform the night duty officer. Overall we had a comfortable stay at this lovely hotel. Mavis and support staff ( forgot their names sorry about that) are friendly and helpful. Thank you Grann Kaz team ! Wish you luck

Grann Kaz is a small hotel/guest house situated on the south west of Mahe, approximately 20 minutes from the airport. Comprising of only 7 or 8 rooms, it is small enough to ensure that you are away from the crowds, but big enough to employ a small team of staff who are always on hand if you need them. We stayed for 3 weeks in December, having made a last minute decision to go away for Christmas. Some of the hotels in the north of the island we had hope to book were full and so we started looking further afield. Booking and communication with Mavis, the owner was quick and easy, and so the holiday began! We arrived late in the evening and were greeted by Manuka, who provided us with some fresh passion fuit juice while we completed the paper work, and then showed us around our room. We had a standard double room on the ground floor with a private veranda and kitchenette. The room itself was spaceous and airy, lots of storage, and nicely decorated with air conditioning. The bathroom was large with a walk in shower. The kitchette had a fridge, a small hob and a small selection of utensils for cooking. Outside we had a dining table and sun loungers on the veranda. Whilst the accommodation can be booked with breakfast, we chose to sort our own. Similarly dinners can be pre-booked and are cooked to order. Dinner needs to be ordered by 10am, as the ingredients are sourced fresh each day. The menu is limited to a small number of local and western dishes. We dined at the hotel on a couple of occassions with some guests and the food was excellent - cooked by Manuka. Throughout the stay we found the accommodation very comfortable, and the setting to be tranquil and relaxing. Its just a 3 or 4 minute walk to Anse La Mouche beach. This was not our favourite beach and instead we would drive 10 minutes to either Petit Anse or Bai Lazare which were both fantastic beaches. Whilst i would recommend hiring a car, buses run frequently throughout the day, across the entire island, so you could get by without if you wish. I always measure the performance of staff by how responsive they are and not by issues that occur. We had a couple of minor issues which were fixed immediately. and to the amusement of my wife, I was also trapped in the bathroom when lock jammed. 10 minutes later Manuka arrived with a handyman who had to drill the lock out and replaced it. Pretty amazing service when you consider it was sunday and Manuka's day off! Overall, the owner and staff were all abosultely lovely and went out of their way to ensure our holiday was enjoyable. I would say that Gann Kaz is best suited for couples, although there was a couple with toddlers also staying at the hotel. A few things to note. 1. The kitchen is equipped with only the basic and so you wont be able to prepare elaborate dishes - not a problem in my mind as we rarely cooked anything other than eggs for breakfast. 2. The private verandas comprise of a wrap around veranda that circles the entire building. With the exception of one couple who felt compelled to walk around the veranda and to look into our room, the space worked well. Part way through our stay, the owner installed some folding screens next to one of the rooms to make their veranda more private and said that she intended to fit them to the others as well. I think this would be a good idea. 3. Room service is daily, with the exception of sunday. Linen isa changed every other day. 4. The gates to the property are locked at 11pm, so if you stay out later you need to let Manuka know in advance and he'll either leave the gate unlocked or provide you with his mobile number to call him when you get back. It is easy to visit Seychelles and book into a resort and experience the fantastic weather and picturesque beaches, but i would argue that you dont get to see the real Seychelles. Staying at hotels like Grann Kaz encourages you to get out and explore the island, and to stay in a place where you and the staff are on first name terms.
