This was my first ever holiday by myself. I was a little apprehensive, but needn’t have been. I chose this accommodation for two reasons - I could check in from 8am (a huge plus after a 10 hour overnight flight) and it had a pool. Someone was there to check me in, give me a juice and tell me about the area. I was shown to my apartment, all 90 square metres of it. The bedroom and bed were huge and the aircon kept it cool. The bathroom was spacious and clean, as was the kitchen. My favourite space was the balcony with views of the luscious green mountains. At times it felt I had the whole house to myself. My apartment was cleaned everyday. Grann Kaz is situated a 5 minute walk from the beach, minimart and 3 restaurants. Anse la Mouche was not the best beach on the Seychelles (when the tide is out, it is no deeper than your knees, when in there is no beach to lie on) but having a car meant I could take short drives to Anse Intendance, Petite Anse, Anse Forbans and Anse Royale, but my undisputed favourite was Baie Lazare where you can find the lovely restaurant La Gaulette. My favourite restaurant in Anse la Mouche was the Anchor cafe - their blackened fish was probably the best fish I ever tasted. Prices similar to the UK. A word of warning - mini marts are not the same as what we have in Europe. You want cheese? One type of cheese. Butter? One brand and size of butter. Wine? Red or white only - don’t ask for Sauvignon, it really is red or white only. I had packed my own tonic water and some long life tuna lunches. I remember thinking thank God I packed them, rather than my usual “I wish I’d packed....” However, none of this detracts from the wonderful quality and hospitality that is Grann Kaz. I loved watching the massive bats coming out from the tree in the garden at night. (And no mosquitoes!). If you are looking for bars and nightlife this is not for you. I wanted peace and quiet. And therefore it was perfect for me.

I spent five days in Grann Kaz and it was not a good and unforgettable experience. The building is beautiful in and outside, but the location is in the middle of nowhere: no facilities nearby, nobody around, only dogs, a lot of bats and mice in the beach that it is far from the house. For this reason It was essential to’ have a car.

This is our second visit to Grann Kaz in the past 6 months and we’re glad we came back again. This time we brought our daughter and booked two standard rooms. Although they were not adjoining, they were side by side which made us feel happy she was close by and her happy to have her own space. Both rooms had their own bathroom, a private veranda and outside dining table, and ours a kitchen. Grann Kaz is a small hotel with just 7 rooms, based on the south western coast of the island at Anse a La Mouche. The hotel has only been open a couple of years and is immaculately maintained. Rooms offered are classified as standard, superior and deluxe and ideally suited for couples and families. The hotel stands just 3 minutes walk from the beach, with another 3 or 4 nice beaches within a 10 minute drive. There 2 restaurants by the beach, with several others within a 15 minute drive. The hotel offers both breakfast and dinner which are both excellent, but we chose to eat out most evenings, and made use of the kitchen in our room to make breakfast. Why stay at Grann Kaz ? Well if you are like us and want to spend an independent holiday away from the large resorts with the freedom to explore the island, you could not choose a better base. You do not need a car as there is a good public transport service across the island, but I would recommend a car in order to visit different beaches and restaurants. We have always been made to feel very welcome from both the owner, Mavis as well as the housekeepers, Alexandra and Anniele. Nothing is too much trouble for them and their cheery smiles means your day al start right. Our bed and bathroom were regularly dressed with flowers, and during our stay a wedding group had their veranda beautifully decorated with palms and flowers, an unexpected but lovely touch that makes your stay just that little bit more special.

The house is new and super clean, spacious enough for a big family, with good Wi-Fi and satellite TV.. Small shops, bus stop and the beach are within 5 min walking distance. Kitchenettes are well equipped so you can make food for the family, alternatively, meals can also be arranged for you. Mavis is very attentive to all the requests, most hospitable host we ever met - will give you directions around the island, advise, order a taxi for you if needed, etc. We had an amazing unforgettable vacation there and hope to come again!

Grann Kaz is a lovely hotel more of a service apartment with clean and huge room, a kitchen with induction heater and basic utensils. I believe it's a new property just off Anse La Mouche in Mahe. The location is scenic with beach just approximately 5 min away and a very green hill on one side of the hotel. It is run by very sweet Mavis Lafortune who was super helpful in helping us with directions to the hotel ( Google maps did not have the location since it's a new property I guess) but then again it was not difficult to reach there. Hotel is good WiFi connection in all the rooms and satellite TV. You can make unlimited local calls from the room phone but international calls are charged. Beach towers are available at the reception but you can only change them alternate day. We were served breakfast in our private balcony with the view of the hill. If you want dinner you can let the support staff know a day earlier and they cook some delicious food. ( Food otherwise is Seychelles is expensive and not that great. We could find really tasty food at a restaurant called La Gaulette which was recommended by Mavis. Thank you Mavis! Main gate closes at 11 pm and reopens at 7 am. If you plan to come late or leave early do inform the night duty officer. Overall we had a comfortable stay at this lovely hotel. Mavis and support staff ( forgot their names sorry about that) are friendly and helpful. Thank you Grann Kaz team ! Wish you luck
