We have stayed at the Adventure in at least 6 times, it is our go to when we are in San Jose.

Close to the airport, and they include a shuttle. So easy after a long flight. We were late arriving so they had supper and water waiting in the room for us. They even organized our car rental (it was a better deal than the airport and not a single compliant. They brought the car to the front door of the hotel and did the paperwork there, and picked it up afterwards)

Friendly and helpful service they really go above and beyond. Front staff, housekeeping and kitchen!

Great value. The room included breakfast which was behind this world amazing. Many hot choices and fruits bar/muffins/coffee/oatmeal. Tasty and fast. Starts at 6am but if your flight is earlier they will make you food for the road.

The rooms are very clean and spacious. Comfortable beds. Quiet. Free fast wifi.

Nice pool, on our last even we sat by the pool and watched the sunset then had supper in the restaurant right by the pool. We had the chef recommended local catch (mahi mahi) and it was really good.

Well worth the value and convenience to book with Adventure inn.

Wow, where do I start. First off, if you’re flipping through other hotels in the area and you’re trying to find ones that book tours, stop. Go here. This place is absolutely wonderful, I was so lucky that about a month and a half before my trip I stumbled across this place, and reached out for help booking tours. Sarah (the front desk manager and travel adviser) organized my entire trip FREE OF CHARGE (I calculated it separately and confirmed the hotel took no % of the total amount, except for the charge to stay there). I booked two nights at the adventure inn and the rest she just organized because she & the fine folk at the inn are incredibly kind, and they know the area well. She booked every tour, hotel and shuttle and customized it based on preference, location, dates, mobility and did this all within the span of a day. I sent her half the money in advance and settled the rest at the hotel. In addition to this, we had two breakfasts and one dinner during our stay and I and can say that the dinner was one of the best dinners I’ve had, definitely the best one in Costa Rica. Prepared with such care, the best ingredients and a lot of thought, skip the nearby places and eat here. Also the pool was wonderful, clean and lovely sun/shade coverage. The rooms were very clean, beds were comfortable and the jacuzzi suite (room 35) we stayed in was basically sound proof, with no traffic sounds. The AC worked well, and when we checked in I was greeted by two free twix bars on the bed stand- just to top everything off. To top it all off, when we checked out Sarah gave a photo album to myself & my mom, which was such a thoughtful thing to do. I will be back!

What a marvelous review! Sarah is a peach, and she is just one of seven travel advisers on staff who know so much about Costa Rica that, with your input and within your budget, they will put together your entire vacation ahead of time, often like a circle tour with minimum backtracking. Just follow your itinerary which includes creative A/C transfers around Costa Rica, hotel suggestions at the best beach and mountain locations, exciting tours, if you wish, at each location (guided rainforest hikes, volcano walks, relaxing hot springs, excellent white water rafting, canopy ziplining, waterfalls, animals, coffee tours just to suggest a few) or just kick back and absorb the culture, set your mind adrift.

This was a good place for our first 2 nights in Costa Rica. They are more than just a hotel though as they can help with planning your whole trip if you want. They provided lots of useful information in advance which we really appreciated and they were quick to respond to our questions by email. They have multi-day packages and lots of tours which you can book on their website. In our case we already knew where we wanted to go but were unsure about booking shuttles between our destinations and which companies to use. We provided Adventure Inn with our itinerary and they were happy to make the shuttle bus bookings for us (4 with Interbus and 1 with Desafio - all punctual and efficient). An excellent service and free of charge and it meant we could relax knowing that all the transfers had been taken care of. We also booked a day tour through Adventure Inn to La Paz Waterfall Gardens in advance as we wanted to make sure we could visit during our short time in the San Jose area.

The hotel itself is small and quirky with lovely gardens with interesting statues, a small pool plus a little fishpond and colourful murals. It was really nice not staying at a "chain" hotel and it felt much more friendly and personal. The free fast wifi was great too.

There were just a few negatives though, including not getting picked up from the airport when we landed, despite having requested this and confirmed our arrival time. We waited ages before finally having to take a taxi. When we got to Adventure Inn the lady on reception queried why we'd taken a taxi with a particular company and made it sound like we'd done something wrong. She refunded us the taxi fare which was good but it made for a confusing start which we could have done without. There was also no apology for not being picked up. We were told we'd been given an upgrade which was nice though we were not sure if this was a gesture related to the pick up issue or not. Anyway the room was huge and very comfortable and quiet, so all great there. The only issue was in the bathroom where there was a jacuzzi bath (which we didn't want and never used). There was no separate shower and you had to step up onto a makeshift box to get in and out of the bath. This is dangerous and we could have easily slipped, so we had to be very careful.

Breakfast on our first morning was very good but on the second morning our cooked breakfast order didn't arrive and when we asked we were told it had been forgotten but that we could put in the order in again. Unfortunately we were on a schedule and had a shuttle bus pick up which meant we didn't have time and we had to miss it. Finally we were not impressed by the included dinner option. We thought it would be easier to book dinner with our accommodation but it's a set menu with very little choice. So it's best to stick to a la carte and pay as you go. Maybe we were just unlucky with these few things as in other aspects the service was good.

Thank you for staying with us and submitting a (long) review. I am happy you liked all of our services and arrangements around Costa Rica. You were instructed to use the official airport taxi, Taxis Unidos, so why you couldn't find them I have no idea, probably why my receptionist was confused and didn't apologize. At least she had the where with all to refund your taxi even though it wasn't our fault. Our meal packages are for people on a budget and you get a full Costa Rican typical meal including appetizer, main course, beverage and dessert for just $16, we couldn't possibly offer up our entire menu for that price. Losing your breakfast order is unforgivable and I apologize for that and can understand your position completely. I will be addressing the restaurant about this. Have a nice day.

The hotel is cute in regards to having lively murals in the halls and birds in the rooms. The restaurant is festive and serves good food. The rooms are shabby. We paid $130 dollars for a kingsize bed with a hot tub, plus they wanted you to pay extra to use their room safe- the only hotel I’ve ever been to with that charge. The furniture was old and there was a loud, buzzing refrigerator, perched on a small table. I had to turn it off to sleep. The hot tub was nice, but there was a step stool attached to the wall that was inches from the toilet, so you had to be careful not to bang into it when you went to the bathroom.

It would be okay to stay there if it was half the price.

I will take into account your comments about your shabby room. The step you talk about is being made to fit better and your fridge should not be causing problems any more. Fortunately most guests don't go to quite those extremes in describing our rooms as we do try to stay up with the times, big flat screen TVs, USB portal room clocks, A/C and fans. The furniture is not worn out but maybe some pieces can use some minor restoration from scratches, etc., a never ending job. Mostly guests find our atmosphere a happy place, a place that puts you in the mood to go out and discover Costa Rica. Our room safes are the older key style so we charge a dollar just to be sure people return the key, or we are into paying $75 for a service call to replace the lock mechanism. No mention of the free airport transfers, free international phone calls, free full breakfast, free powerful WiFi throughout, things that most hotels DO charge for, yet a dollar upsets you? We hope you find your room in the sky with all we offer for half price (especially in the high season), nice safe neighborhood, pool, Jacuzzi, gym, exchange library, our Jacuzzi suites have a balcony outside your door with mountain views, great free travel advice and arrangements made with our helpful knowledgeable staff.

This is a nice, but very plain hotel near the airport in San Jose. I am not sure if quaint = a bit dated and plain, but this is it. Probably would have preferred a more modern hotel with more amenities.
They have a nice pool and hot tub and a decent restaurant. A couple of good items. Breakfast, although plentiful, was just decent.
There were some staff that were not too nice. One front desk attendant accosted us about our restaurant bill, which we assumed was added to our room charge.
The shuttle service only runs at certain times. We had to hire a taxi for our drive back to the airport instead of the free shuttle. Upon arrival, there was no hotel shuttle at the airport which led to some confusion. Apparently, and we eventually figured this out, if there is no shuttle present at the airport, you can take an authorized cab and the hotel will pay the bill directly.
Overall, this was fine. Convenient to the airport. Decent restaurant and nice pool. Rooms were dated and staff were mixed.

Thank you for your review. Our hotel was built in 2001 but perhaps the abundance of mature plants gives it a more established look, though there are newer hotels. But with the most powerful WiFi, free international phone calls, a free breakfast and free airport transfers we outshine our competition. Our free transfers from the airport operate 24 hours per day, and if you don't see the taxi representative holding a sign with your name on it while still inside the arrivals building, no problem, just go to their desk, so there is no reason to miss your transfer. Going to the airport we leave on a schedule about every hour from 4 am to noon. These guests stayed twice and the first time they left (accidentally I am sure) without paying their restaurant bill, we wrote to inform them that they could pay us on their last night's stay, so not sure why the surprise. Perhaps my receptionists were a little zealous in being sure it got paid when they returned and I apologize. Travel introduces you to different cultures and sometimes communications can be misinterpreted. All my staff mean well, and have a great heart-felt attitude.

Our family of 7 (5 adults, two teens) stayed in a large room at the Adventure Inn on our first and last nights in San Jose. We found the hotel to be extremely clean. Staff were welcoming and helpful. The pool, hot tub, and restaurant with complimentary breakfast and delicious dinner were welcome options. Eric Robinson was very responsive to communication prior to our trip, assisting us with information on rental cars, cell phone access, etc. We were able to leave our luggage at the hotel on the last day, when we took a trip into San Jose. We would highly recommend Adventure Inn to others looking to stay near the airport.

I would recommend staying with the Adventure Inn to anyone who is flying into and/or out of SJO. The service from the whole team would be hard to beat. From the ease of booking a room, a rental car, and adventure tours (throughout the country) online in advance (even last minute, which is too often my style).
There is nothing fancy at the Adventure Inn, but they had absolutely everything we needed. The (free) breakfast and the dinner were delicious. The hospitality is above and beyond satisfactory. The convenience is unbeatable with free shuttle to and from the airport, plus the ability to have a rental car delivered to the hotel and skip the airport counters and taxis (which can be extra intimidating when traveling abroad).
We were impressed at the amount of room we were able to reserve for our family. The showers were perfectly equipped with hot water, and the bathrooms were complete with all the amenities we were looking for. I absolutely loved the sign in the room reminding us to be respectful of the people we would encounter and their culture. There are many good things to consider when stepping into another country, and I appreciated the reminders and how concisely they were described- my kids let me read them aloud without losing their attention.
We will absolutely return for future trips to CR!

We stayed at the Adventure Inn the night we arrived into San Jose from the U.S. and again the night before we departed. The room was clean and comfortable. I loved the murals on the walls. The painting of the toucans in our room was adorable and definitely felt very Costa Rican. The meal in the restaurant was very good and the service was exceptional! The first night I forgot my bottle of water on the table and the young lady tracked down our room and brought it to me. I love that “Noche” the big black Labrador laid in the middle of restaurant floor snoozing away while we had our dinner, especially since by the time of our second stay I was missing my doggie at home. They were even willing to put our small cooler of tuna in the freezer so that it would remain frozen for our return flight. The shuttle service from/to the airport was prompt and problem free. You would never know they were in such close proximity to the airport since I never heard the planes. The grounds were well kept and welcoming. I would definitely stay here again.

This is a smaller, owner-run hotel about 15 min from SJO that is an excellent choice for a hotel at the beginning or end of your trip. The owner was extremely friendly and helpful with any special requests and providing directions to testing sites, restaurants, stores, etc. There are many choices of restaurants with outdoor seating and good food an easy walk away (as well as grocery stores, pharmacy and ATM) or there is an on site restaurant. There is a nice pool and hot tub area with chairs and tables the whole family can enjoy. Rooms are spacious and quiet other than air conditioning unit which can be turned off if desired. Price was very reasonable for all of the amenities including free breakfast. Also convenient location for day trips from san jose such as the rafting trip we did on the Pacuare River.

After our airbnb promises changed (parking commitment pulled back - San Jose is not an easy place to have a car!) - we had to find a place to stay on New Years Eve. I found this gem and highly recommend the stay. They provided a complimentary shuttle (so easy), restaurant onsite was great, Adobe car rental delivered to us the next morning (although they do have free parking onsite also) and off we went after our complimentary breakfast (buffett or off the menu). The management, all employees were a pleasure. The room was clean, we upgraded to a queen bed and the community deck outside had comfy seats and a gorgeous view of the mountains. Great place to stay upon arriving or departing CR. Pura Vida!

Thank you very much! True, driving in central San Jose can be a frustrating experience. Fortunately we are on the airport side of the city with generally little traffic between Adventure Inn and the airport. We suggest you get an authentic Costa Rican experience by taking a public bus into the city center to visit the Central Market, Plaza de la Cultura, museums and souvenir shopping. But you will be relieved to return to our safer, quieter, cleaner and less congested neighborhood for great night's sleep.

Hello, The CR has the same climate all year round - it's hot 85F during the day, it's cooler in the evening and at night. Now it's a dry period, we were lucky, no rain during our ten days vacation (we traveled in the Central Region and Pacific Part of CR)

Most tours leave early in the morning, some coffee plantation tours leave up to around 3 pm. It gets dark at 6 pm. You could go into cental San Jose, the Central Market is open to 6 pm every day but Sunday, you could do a self-guided city tour. Take a convenient public bus from two short blocks from Adventure Inn up on the highway into San Jose and get off at the end of the line, walk one block north and you are at the west end of the pedestrian walkway, take in the Central Market, maybe have an early dinner in one of the food stalls, I recommend Oje de Carne, then walk east down the pedestrian boulevard to Plaza de la Cultura, the Teatro Nacional, go underground to the Gold Museum (Museo de Oro), continue a few blocks further past Mas X Menos grocery store, the outstanding Jade Museum, then continue further east to the Museo Nacional, Plaza del la Democracia with bullet holes in the turret from the 1948 revolution where they threw out the communists, take your time, enjoy the day, probably best to return on the same bus to Adventure Inn, tell the driver to let you off at the Los Arcos bus stop, then take the pedestrian bridge over the highway and you'll recognize where you are, a half a block straight ahead between the duck ponds and half a block to the left to Adventure Inn.

Hello, simply request a ground floor room so you have no steps from outside to your room. We do not have elevators up to our second floor. Our restaurant is open daily from 6 am to 10 pm, free breakfast from 6 to 10 am. Yes most of our rooms have walk in showers, but again, request one just to be sure. You can enter the pool and restaurant all on the ground floor with no stairs.
