Redcastle Oceanfront Golf & Spa Hotel offers a picturesque seaside retreat that many guests find enhances their stay. While travelers appreciate the hotel's cleanliness and scenic atmosphere, complete with live music and elegant touches, there are mixed reviews regarding the rooms. Some guests commend the spaciousness and views, while others point out the need for modernization and better maintenance.
The staff's service generally receives high marks for friendliness and professionalism, although a few guests have encountered inconsistency. Amenities like the spa are well-regarded, yet some reviewers suggest an update is in order. Detailed Reviews
We stayed in Redcastle Hotel for four nights in Mid-July and really enjoyed our stay.
We took a balcony room and were delighted we had done so. The room was spacious and overlooked Lough Foyle. The views were absolutely wonderful. It was also spotless.
From a Covid perspective, the room was sealed when we arrived and nobody entered the roome while we were there. Towels, water, tea, coffee, milk, biscuits and toiletries were left outside our door each day. Because we were on the first floor we didn't need to use the lift, which added to our feeling of safety.
Hand sanitisers were placed throughout the hotel and there was a one way system in the dining room.
The Edge dining room is literally on the edge of Lough Foyle. The views are something else.
Breakfast and Dinner in the Edge were wonderful. The vegetarian pithiviers were gorgeous. Bar food was also excellent except for the pizza. Mine felt as if it was cooked in a rush. The base was raw/doughy and the tomato sauce didn't feel as if it was cooked enough either.
Staff were always pleasant and helpful.
Gerry, the Concierge, is a joy to listen to and an absolute mine of information. Because of him, our visit to Derry was made so much easier.
In conclusion we loved both the location and the hotel. It is an excellent base for North East Donegal and Derry City. We look forward to paying a return visit.

I had received an email following an earlier visit with a promotional offer as a returning guest, emailed and got responded to quickly. We had originally booked for a Friday/Saturday stay which was marginally more expensive but changed our plans to a Sunday Monday stay. At this stage I had checked the website and it was the same price to book online, i queried this via email and no response was received. Regardless we were happy to pay the difference.
The location is stunning, reception staff were friendly and check in was very smooth. The reception area is beautifully furnished. We has booked a one bedroom suite, which was frankly disappointing consisting of a small room with other room with a spare bed and a tv in it. this had a door that could be used as interconnecting but noise travelled very easily and a wedding party guests were rowdy to late in the night. Reception did notify them to keep levels to a minimum and always this is a risk in a popular wedding hotel.
The room was in much need of a facelift, there was cobwebs on the roof, some mould on the windows and walls grubby in need of a lick of paint. Furniture was chipped and dated.
Positives - the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was clean and the room was serviced very quickly.
Food and cocktails in the bar were gorgeous and the dining experience was flawless.
Breakfast however was average, on the first day there were no pastries left early on.
I did send this to the hotel after our stay but no reply was received.
I would overall recommend this hotel, and i do believe there are refurbishments going on. On booking maybe check if you can be in a room away from wedding guests?

From the moment we arrived the staff couldn’t have been nicer or more helpful, our room was extremely comfortable with a superb view looking out across the Lough. We enjoyed dinner and breakfast which was very well organised and controlled in a safe manner, Sanitiser at every turn. I would definitely recommend this hotel. It is a little dated but to be honest with those views, who cares.

Unfortunately this hotel did not meet our expectations of what we had heard about the hotel. Views from location were fabulous, check in was easy and loads of hand sanitisers available. Room was comfy but very outdated, service in restaurant was extremely slow 30 minute wait on drink, food was lovely but small portions. Breakfast was cold. The swimming pool was lovely however a lot of steps within the swimming pool which is easy to miss and jacuzzi was broken. Staff were very friendly, overall it is a nice hotel just needs to make slight improvements to service.

Dear Guest, Thank you for choosing The Redcastle Hotel for your recent break away, it was our pleasure to welcome you. Thank you for your feedback in relation to other aspects of your stay, all feedback is very important to us and greatly received. We have completed a refurbishment of 40 bedrooms last year and we are beginning the next phase of this soon which will be another 30 bedrooms. We hope to have these completed by the beginning of next year. I am pleased to read that you used the pool facilities in the hotel. Currently all the features within the pool are working. We don't have a jacuzzi in the hotel, however we have many different water features and jets throughout the pool for guests to enjoy. Many thanks once again for your feedback, and we do hope you will return in the future, you won't be disappointed. Kind Regards Redcastle Customer Care Team

3 star review in the hopes you read this and don't go. 17/7/2020 to 20/7/2020 room 424
Friday evening to Monday morning in the hope of rest and relaxation. This would be a great hotel if a few things could get sorted.
Cons:
Get a room on the top floor as you can hear people just marching about above you or talking away and they are not even trying to be noisy it's just not very well sound proofed.
1st major problem was in the early hours of Saturday morning at 4.45am the fire alarm went off for over a solid minute, everyone was up at this point, (but it's a one off....right?) what do you do. Sunday morning the very next night at 4.43am the alarm goes off again, honestly I was raging at this point and that was me on a weekend of rest up for the long long day ahead. I was now awake with my new upstairs buddy's, marching about as per usual.
The staff didn't seem shocked that the alarm went off and I got the jist of it being a regular problem.
The spa had already screwed up a booking and half the equipment doesn't work in the actual pool, that's not including the sauna and steam room which are understandably off due to cover restrictions.
Pros:
The front desk, bar and restaurant are all top notch, the staff are helpful and the evening food is excellent. Golf course is well maintained.
Overall.
Disappointed, get the fire alarm sorted, and supply rooms with earplugs of lift the carpets upstairs screw down the floor board it's not natural to hear that much noise.

We had a lovely break last weekend, perfect antidote to lockdown. The hotel were careful with professional measures taken to ensure social distancing, check in is hands free and rooms carefully prepared. The lovely drinks and chance to relax was wonderful. Dinner and breakfast in the Edge were gorgeous, with views to match, highly recommend. Staff throughout we're warm, friendly and happy to help.We had a lovely time walking and getting around Mobile, Culdaff and Green castle, beautiful scenery. Looking forward to the next getaway at Redcastle.

Husband got me a wee night here for Christmas present. We arrived a bit early, so went to the relaxation room overlooking the water for a wee drink, only had a short wait, and then we got a lovely room with a view of the water. As usual room was a very high standard, with loads of little extras, biscuits for tea, and complimentary bottles of water.
We went to the pool , which again had a lovely view of the water, and was very relaxing. My husband loved the steam and sauna.
We had dinner from the bar, our waiter was fantastic, very attentive and friendly, and couldn’t do enough for us, I am only upset that I didn’t get his name, he is a real asset to the hotel. The food was gorgeous, my husband particularly loved the chicken wings.
Fantastic breakfast the next morning in the edge restaurant, lots of variety, and very good quality food.
I love this hotel, and we have been a good few times, the setting and staff, always make for a great night away, will be back soon

First impressions were excellent. Beautiful hotel, very modern. However, upon closer look it was not very clean. The doors in the room were dirty, bathroom door had toothpaste splatters, public restrooms walls needed cleaned, panels needed wiped. The restaurant lounge has stunning views, but there was food along the window ledges, stainless steel bases of tables were sticky and fingerprints all over. Clearing of tables was not good. Lots of dishes needed to be picked up, waiters walked over or passed by dropped napkins that were adjacent to tables. The bed was very comfy and furnishings were top notch.

Stayed a couple of nights for our wedding anniversary and overall had a great time.
To keep it simple here’s our pros and cons:
PRO
Quality breakfast.
Generous and good quality afternoon tea.
Lovely setting overlooking the sea.
Spotless rooms.
Friendly staff.
Ongoing impressive attention to Covid cleanliness and regulations.
Fantastic pool.
Massages 10/10.
Comfy bed.
CONS
Nobody EVER answered reception phone (And I include the days leading up to our stay!) that was super frustrating and not great if you were to need emergency help.
The fire alarm went off as we slept and again later that day.
Sadly we had a noisy room above the laundromat - when the machines were going (at least twice daily!?) the room literally shook!
Squeaky floorboards in the room above meant constant noise from other people.
The “Relaxation room” after the massages was a bit basic and cold - some soft furnishings would have made it feel a little more luxurious, for the price we paid it would have rounded off the experience a little better.
Had to ask staff constantly for things, better explanation and communication when checking in would have been better to save us continually having to ask staff where things were etc.
No special touches for our anniversary (can’t be expected I suppose)
Disposable cups in the room instead of cup and saucer, felt a bit cheap.
Overall we enjoyed it & would go back.

I was so looking forward to this trip as because of Covid we had not been to Donegal in almost 2 years, we have family there so visit quite often, however this was my first time staying in the Redcastle and probably will be my last.
I travel alone with my daughter, so I requested to have a fridge in the room but on arrival we had no fridge! Our room was beautiful though we booked and paid extra for a balcony room and definitely was worth it, the views were just amazing looking over the water, however the wifi was terrible! Travelling with a 9 year you need WiFi! It was fine everywhere else in the hotel but as soon as we entered the room it was gone which is not really good enough.
We used the pool on 2 days and it was lovely, cudnt fault it and the chap working the desk at the pool was so helpful,
Now the major downfall, our evening meals. We ate both nights in the deck area, overlooking the water where they serve the bar menu! The views were beautiful but that’s really where the positives stop. The food was just ok, but the service was terrible! Extremely slow and not because it was busy as we were there late so it wasn’t. We gave it another try again on the second night and i left fuming! My daughter ordered a cheese pizza, and it came out and it was raw!!! It was completely white and I pushed back the cheese and it was raw dough! I had to ask one of the waitresses if she could just have it cooked for a bit longer and she was apologetic and took it away no prob, about 15/20 mins later, the manager on duty came back with her pizza which now was completely cremated on one half of it. Like the crust was completely bLack on one whole side! It was an absolute disgrace that she could even put that down on front of us especially considering she knew there had been an issue with it in the first place, any manager would want to make sure it was perfect coming back!! But at this stage my daughter was so hungry so she ate 2 slices of what we could salvage! But we went into moville and got food on the 3rd night I refused to eat there again.
Breakfast however was lovely, very well ran, lady running front of house was so polite and considering how busy they were ran a very smooth ship!
The staff cleaning the rooms were the nicest people we came across, we met them every-morning as we were heading for breakfast and swimming and they honestly could not have been any nicer, making sure we had everything we needed and were so friendly.

The staff cleaning the rooms were the nicest people we came across, we met them every-morning as we were heading for breakfast and swimming and they honestly could not have been any nicer, making sure we had everything we needed and were so friendly.

Response from Customer Care Team, Other at Redcastle Oceanfront Golf & Spa Hotel
Responded Aug 9, 2021
Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to send some feedback in to our team regarding your stay. We are sorry to hear that you didn’t enjoy your meal on the Deck. Thank you for your lovely comments about breakfast and your room. The location of the hotel really is beautiful. The pool is great, especially when travelling with kids. We are very sorry about your dining experience on the Deck and that the pizza was not what you expected. If a manager was called to the table that evening, this issue could have been rectified immediately. Unfortunately, it was not a Duty Manager who was dealing with you that evening. I am disappointed to hear that some aspects of your stay were not enjoyable and certainly take your comments on board. Feedback such as yours is the most valuable tool in improving the hotel for the better. I will certainly pass these on to the management team & we look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel in the near future. Warm regards and many thanks, Redcastle Customer Care Team.

This is the 3rd time I've answered......no fcng no
I think so but we were out and about most of the time so didn’t watch much TV.
Why not just phone the hotel - you get to speak to real people and they’re very helpful.
We stayed in the Redcastle Hotel last month and booked a Balcony Room. I phoned the hotel and was told that all balcony rooms had a sea view.
Our balcony room was on the first floor and was gorgeous. Spacious and overlooking Lough Foyle.
We dont drink beer but found their bar prices are reasonable for a hotel.
Really great place. We have stayed there several times. The last time being February.
"Picturesque location on edge Lough Foyle with well kept grounds. Excellent service."Read full review
