A score of spectacular waterfalls tumble down over rocks and precipices throughout the cool high country of Sri Lanka. Among them is Hunas Falls, which derives its name from Hunasgiriya Peak, the forest covered mountain which overlooks this tranquil landscape. Located close to the former royal capital of Kandy, Hunas Falls provides an astonishing setting for Hunas Falls by Amaya. Sprawling gardens with walkways, flowers and the lake with a bridge to cross it, a waterfall and a mini golf course all constitute a most beautiful background to the calm serenity of your room. Considered one of the most scenic spots in the country, Hunas Falls by Amaya is an alluring Sri Lankan honeymoon hotel. It is committed to energy saving practices, recycling, giving back to the community and reducing wastage.

The hotel is located in very scenic location away from all the buzz. Lake by the hotel is a cherry on top for the beautiful surrounding and chill climate.

* Staff was very courteous and friendly. They have a billiard playing facility in the bar, a pool, tennis court and a badminton court open for guests.
* Cycling and site seen is also available for upper Hunas Falls.
* Food and lodging - We had buffets for both Dinner and Breakfast. The variation of selection was good and there was an action cooking side for both the meals. Food was tasty. The rooms are very clean and up to the standard (we stated in a Delux room) but some equipment (in room radio) needed some attention for repairs.

Overall the stay was memorable.

Points to note - Access road was badly damaged for the last 2 km. A car would hit undercarriage if not careful.
* Rooms do not have amenities such as tooth brush, tooth paste, slippers, laundry bag etc. other than for soap and shampoo. Probably b'cos this is a 3 star hotel.
* They do have a gym, but couple of running tracks are there in the garden and by lake.

A beautiful hotel ideal for some peace and quiet. We stayed at the Japanese themed suite Katsura which opened out to a beautifully manicured garden with mini fountains and little ponds. So serene and beautiful. The accommodation per se was good and the food was also extremely generous in terms of portion size. BUT what stood out the most at this property is the staff. From the start they were so friendly and accommodative of the dates etc due to lockdown. Imalka was my contact and she was outstanding in her customer service. Even throughout our stay she was so concerned and ensured we had everything we needed. At the restaurant Manike made sure we had more than we needed. She ensured our food got delivered on time and even went that extra mile to make us a delicious cup of SriLankan milk tea and send it to our room. F&B manager Wasantha and Chef Wasantha always making sure the food was tasty and we were well taken care of. And ofcourse Fayaz & Prabath who were so pleasant and went over and above to make us comfortable and well taken care of. Last but not least Ranil who made it a point to always check on us and ensure we were happy and looked after well.
We really had a wonderful time and more than anything it was the Amazing Staff that made all the difference.

It was a memorable stay for us at Hunas Falls when we visited the place during our last family vacation. The booking was straightforward through their website and when I wanted to change the dates they were very helpful. From check in to check out, every single member of the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Room was in very good condition and the space was more than enough for our family of four. Food was OK. Since it was a set menu during those days, a little bit of variety and presentation were lacking.
The highlight was the amazing location of the hotel. Located close to the up stream of the Hunas Falls, the hotel was surrounded by the picturesque misty mountains and wilderness. The garden of the hotel was so beautiful and well kept. It was evident that they put a lot of effort in maintaining it in such a good state. We thoroughly enjoyed walking around the little lake and having a boat ride. There were many activities including trekking, golf, badminton, tennis etc. The pool was open but you could have a bath at the small waterfall nearby.
The only drawback is the last 3 kilometres of the access road which is in terrible condition. At least for now, you may need to drive carefully if you are travelling in a vehicle with low ground clearance.

As hotel Hunas falls was known to be one of the best hotels in Kandy I made a reservation for a double room for 6th of August 2021. I made this reservation on mid July and hotel requested a 50% of advance payment to complete the booking. Hence I deposited the money on same day and I confirmed my booking. However I got a call from the hotel on 28th of July saying hotel is closed until 7th of August. Since I already arranged my trip I told the hotel that we are not in a situation to change our date hence I need my advance payment back as we have to look for another hotel to stay. Then they were agreed with it and they asked me to send a mail requesting for a refund. On same day (28th July) I sent them the mail as they requested but I never received the refund or even a reply to my mail. On 10th of August I sent them a chaser mail but still no response.

Last few days I called the hotel and they took my contact details and said they will call me back but they never called me back. This was happened twice. I am utterly disappointed with the service provided by this hotel to me so far. When these things happens as guests we are scared to make advance payments for hotel bookings.

Now it is almost 1 month since I made the payment but I am yet to receive any kind of a response from the hotel.

Just arrived after a holiday at Hunnas Falls Hotel.

This is a hotel situated in one of the most beautiful sorroundings which one can find anywhere in the World.

A dedicated staff is the best Asset a hotel can have. The staff at this hotel are dedicated , professional and very friendly and helpful with Ms.Imalka at the Front office , Ms.Ekkanayake and Ms.Disna in the Restaurant being exceptional !

The meals were according to a set menu and even though good , they could be better. Especially one felt that at least in the morning, breakfast could have been a buffet.

The Shaheen trail which had been promoted for decades as an attraction is not been actively promoted now. The Shaheen board on top of the Mountain which disappeared over an year ago has not been replaced. The steep trail to the right of the steps from the Lake had been cleared , but not the easier trail to the left. Considering the fact that "small siri pada " in Ella attracts so many climbers , it is a pity that an effort is not made to clear the less difficult trail, put a few sign boards and promote this climb which has breathtaking views both at the summit and during the climb.

The 03 KMS from the main road to the hotel is a total disaster. Very soon only a vehicle with a high clearance would be able to make it.

This hotel has huge potential. One only needs a clear vision and investment of time and a little money to achieve this potential.

Alltogether it was a very relaxing and enjoyable stay.

I like to start off by saying the scenery is out of this world and the location is truly unmatchable. However , the operations / management of the hotel was very disappointing. Infact we shortened our stay and checked out in one night though we had booked for two.
The staff can not be blamed as they did try their best - but they had limited knowledge and limited resources. What was appalling the most is it didn’t match the standards of advertising at all. The stories and posts the pages share are a complete misrepresentation.
On arrival we were informed that hot water is only available from 6.30-9.30 am and pm. While on your end there might be difficulty, what you must understand is in this day and age no one goes to a hotel paying close to 40 K a night for basic resources to be withheld as almost every house now has geysers .
Then we were informed of a power cut. A hotel that has a power cut???? Even my house has an inverter and we didn’t pay so much and come all the way to stay in the dark in an unknown place risking our safety and sacrificing our comfort.

Next the food, while the staff did try their best to accommodate us - more that 3/4 of the menu wasn’t available quite contrary to what is posted on social media. There are advertisements of a games room which looked very enticing . But we found a pretty old and dilapidated room where most games were not even available. Even the hotel couldn’t be viewed properly as the lights were constantly off. We felt very unsafe and unproductive. Extremely dissatisfying

The road leading up to the hotel is in extremely bad condition. Whilst dangerous, it is also not responsible on the part of the Hotels' Management to allow guests to travel here under these conditions.

We are extremely disappointed with the Hotel and its Management which caused serious damage to the vehicle we were traveling in. This is NOT acceptable and we CAUTION all travelers to Hotel. We believe the Hotel should not operate and accommodate guests until such time the road leading up to the hotel has been repaired.

This is one of the finest properties in Sri Lanka where we could really connect with the nature. The view from the rooms and the hotel is just amazing. You can see atleast 20 varieties of birds including hawks and eagles around the property. Food was good. Rooms were clean and well maintained.

Stephen at the reception was very helpful with my booking and Asitha the FOM was very attentive and took care of all our needs till the very end of our stay.

The staff at the restaurent were really impressive and well trained. Dasun, Damith, Disna and Charith made us experience the hospitality at it's best. The food was delicious and the highly personalised service they give to the guests was very touching and welcoming.

They can improve their buffet though. Set menu food was much better when compared. I'm sorry I couldn't catch the names of the bellboys who helped at the checkin and checkout and the guy who did the turn down for room 210 on 24th Jan. Thank you all including the chefs for making our stay an amazing one. Good luck!

We stayed for 2 nights in Dec 2019. The views are amazing. The rooms are clean, comfortable and spacious. The gardens are well maintained gardens.
Great location as my young 2 children walked down to Hunas Falls and bathed in the pond, went riding on the pony, and played croquet. The staff are very friendly and helpful especially the resident manager, Imalka. Food is good.
Would certainly come back .

Our party of 6 adult friends, both local and foreign, all had a lovely time together at this property. A classic '70s hotel freshly-furnished and decorated. Well-maintained grounds in a stunning setting.....the hotel is set on a lake between the upper & lower Hunas Falls with views of the Knuckles and down the valleys that are breathtaking. The gardens are lovely for strolls, and further hikes on offer. The staff were everything you would want...welcoming, informative, friendly and helpful. The Afternoon Tea was a surprising nice treat.
