Muckross Park Hotel & Spa garners high marks for its cleanliness, with guests consistently admiring the pristine rooms and facilities. Nestled close to attractions like Muckross House, the hotel's location is a hit among visitors, despite a few finding it not as central. The staff's exceptional service receives accolades for their attention and hospitality.
While some guests consider the pricing steep, many find the luxurious spa, the comfortable rooms, and the delightful cuisine to offer good value. Although the hotel exudes a relaxed ambiance, a handful of guests suggest that certain areas could benefit from modernization.

Detailed Reviews
My husband, our baby daughter and I had a wonderful stay. The staff were excellent, very friendly and accommodating. The precautions for Covid are very well organised. For example, we had to use the lift with our buggy. Only 1 group is allowed in it at a time and there is sanitizer at every level.
All the tables, at every eatery, are are well spaced out so it’s very comfortable and there’s at least 2m between you and other guests. We pre-booked our times for breakfast, lunch and dinner each day (one lunch only 30mins before we wanted it so there is plenty of availability).
Every morning at breakfast we were served a lovely 3 tiered tray of pastries, fruit and condiments as well as our hot meal order. The staff were also very obliging in taking our baby’s bottles and sterilising them for us in their microwave. Lunch in the lounge was very relaxed. The chowder was delicious; full of different fish both times. Dinner in the bar was great too. We had no want to leave the hotel for meals.
We also visited the pool in the spa (as it’s in the spa it’s over 18s only so we had to take turns while one person minded the baby in the room). Only the pool and heated loungers are open and the pool jets are turned off so it’s quite basic. The sauna, steam room etc are closed due to Covid precautions. It was very relaxing on the heated loungers. A nice time-out but an hour is enough there.
The hotel has a fantastic location. We spent all our free time in Muckross Park, the entrance of which is right across from the hotel. It is a fabulous amenity. Every time, we took a different path. It is huge so it never felt crowded.
We have already recommended the hotel to our family and friends. We had a brilliant stay.

Dear Guest Wow, thank you so much for taking the time to write such an eloquent account of your recent stay with us at Muckross Park Hotel and Spa. It is so immensely rewarding and motivating to read that you and your family had such a brilliant stay with us, we set incredibly high standards for ourselves, and it certainly has been a challenge at times as we needed to adapt to ensure our guests and staff are safe in the current climate. I am therefore thrilled that you had such a good time with us and that the measures we introduced were visible but also unobtrusive throughout your time with us. Your personal recommendation means the world to me and my team and I hope we can be your home away from home in Killarney for many years to come. Thank you again for sharing your experience with us and others, I look forward to welcoming you back soon. Best wishes Frits Frits Potgieter, General Manager

We recently stayed in the hotel to celebrate our belated 1st wedding anniversary. We had originally booked for June but had to postpone. We got married in the hotel last year and wanted to return to mark our anniversary. The staff were fantastic when booking and booked us in for the pool and spa area, dinner in The Yew Tree and breakfast. This ensured that there was no queuing and no crowded areas. When we arrived, we were greeted by very friendly staff that welcomed us and made us feel as special as they did the day of our wedding. We booked into pool area for 2pm for the hour before check in. Very relaxing area and got to enjoy some time in the outdoor hot tub. When we gave our name when checking in the staff immediately congratulated us on our anniversary which was a lovely personal touch. When we arrived to the room there was a lovely handwritten card from the manager with a bottle of champagne and gift for our baby daughter. The wedding coordinator Bernie took the time to call us and welcome us to the hotel and later that evening Madina our wedding planner from the hotel came to meet us before our meal. I thought this was a lovely gesture by the staff.
We had a four course meal in The Yew Tree and it was amazing. I had the pan seared scallops to start, the beef fillet for mains and the vegan dark chocolate dessert. Only thing that was disappointing was not having enough room to finish the dessert. The service was excellent in the restaurant, lovely relaxing atmosphere and tables are well spaced out to allow you privacy and adequate social distancing. Breakfast is also served in the same restaurant and has a wide selection.
Overall, it was an amazing staycation, hotel is located near most of the main attractions in Killarney with great views. We were initially anxious about staying in a hotel during the pandemic but were reassured immediately as there is someone constantly cleaning down the areas in the main reception and toilets, hand sanitizer available in all areas and clear signage displayed with regulations. It was a nice treat, near the main attractions of Killarney, with friendly staff and amazing food. Looking forward to returning.

Spent two nights dinner b&b this week, hotel located across the road from Muckross Abbey located in the Killarney national park , so great walking with beautiful scenery. Hotel was excellent food was some of the best we have eaten, dinners were delightful as were the breakfasts, my husbands gluten free needs were extremely well catered for he was spoilt for choice. The room was pleasant all needs catered for bed and pillows very comfortable, I was pleased to see a magnifying mirror in the bathroom always a bonus! When we arrived to our room I noticed some dirty water and footprint in the shower tray, I mentioned it to reception who was onto housekeeping immediately and they couldn’t apologise enough, it was no big deal but they delivered a bottle of Prosecco and chocolates to the room. Overall all the staff were very helpful, friendly and we felt very safe in the current climate, hope to return again some time in the future.

Stayed here recently and check in was smooth. As we arrived late we changed quickly and headed to town for dinner. Unfortunately we were in a room along the roadside and therefore the noise of traffic late into the night and early into the morning meant a disturbed sleep. As we were booked on a tour early the following day we had breakfast delivered to the room as there were no breakfast slots available in the restaurant. Delivered breakfast was disappointing however we did not pass any remarks as in general food having to be hauled to rooms from kitchens would mean it would arrive slightly cooler and maybe less quality than if sitting in the breakfast room or so we thought. Before we left for the day we asked to be moved and we were obliged and were moved to a larger room away from the road with a complimentary bottle of wine and chocs which was a nice touch. We used the vitality suite was was spotlessly clean however due to current restrictions a lot of the facilities were out of use so I cannot comment on those. Others travelling in our party had treatments done and said they were excellent. We ate in Monks lounge-a charcuterie board which consisted of packet ham and cuisine de France rolls instead of the advertised sour dough bread and artisan meats was disappointing. Mains ordered were the prawn and mussel linguine-although tasty it was a glorified bowl of spaghetti and one of the 4 dishes delivered to the table had only 1 mussel within. Service was good and we found the staff attentive and friendly and throughout our whole stay. Our final morning we had breakfast in the restaurant and unfortunately the breakfast was terrible-cold toast, what seemed to be powdered scrambled eggs (certainly were not fresh eggs) and smoked salmon that was of very poor quality. Others travelling in our party had breakfast in the restaurant the previous morning and had said quality was poor. In general the hotel was comfortable and clean and the staff friendly however food was a big let down for a 5 star hotel.

I hope you can accept my personal apology, we set very high standards for ourselves here at Muckross and I am sorry and disappointed that we not deliver to expectation. Myself and my friend have just returned from a three night staycation in Muckross Park Hotel. First impressions upon arrival - we were surprised to see the hotel had absolutely no garden space or grounds apart from the carpark and a tiny patch of grass.
Reception and lobby were lovely and we were greeted by a friendly member of staff at reception.
We checked in and made our way to our room... On entering the room, immediately it was nothing like the photos. Small, outdated, with numerous chips, stains, dents and the wallpaper coming off the wall. Lampshades and lamps wonky and dusty. Tiles in bathroom dirty. Small, old fashioned tv hidden in a wardrobe with minimal channels and no mini bar or hairdryer. (All would be expected from a 5 star ‘luxury hotel’.)
We immediately called reception to voice our concerns and asked if there was an alternative room available. A member of the reservations team came to our room to apologise, informed us that there was no other room available and nothing they could do except offer to change the chairs to more updated ones (exact same chairs but just had been painted).
Overall, no more than a three star room if even.
We tried to enjoy the rest of our stay despite being disappointed that our trip was no longer luxury.
We had breakfast each morning which was lovely and all staff members were very pleasant.
Now on to the spa. When we arrived we tried to book a treatment (any day, any time) - absolutely nothing available. We are aware things are slightly different due to covid, however you would expect residents to be able to book a treatment over a 3-4 day period.
We still decided to visit the vitality suites on two occasions which was fab. However, while swimming in the pool on the second visit (first thing in the morning) we were greeted by numerous dirty plasters and chewing gum stuck to the pillars. I would expect a staff member to be monitoring the cleanliness of the pool and surrounding areas at all times, especially in this current climate.
From staying in numerous five star hotels, I am extremely disappointed and baffled as to how this hotel has a five star rating. If you are looking for the five star experience (like we were), I would suggest spending your money elsewhere (as it was not cheap).

Dear Guest Thank you for your feedback, we are always learning from our guests’ experiences and are very much committed to continually improving and evolving our service and the quality of our product for all our customers. I am disappointed and genuinely sorry to read of the maintenance issues you experienced in your room, this is not acceptable and I wish to assure you I have already addressed these with our team. Our room design is classic in nature to reflect the history of Muckross and it’s surrounding areas but we set incredibly high standards for ourselves in terms of cleanliness and in-room presentation and we clearly let ourselves down on this occasion. Unfortunately, with the current pandemic and following guidelines we have had to remove some of the soft furnishing such as our decorative bedspreads and decorative pillows, quite simply so we can ensure that every single item in your room has been fully changed and sanitized daily. With capacity restrictions in place for Spa’s we now are more limited I am afraid, in terms of the number of guests we are able to accommodate for treatments and we do encourage all our guests to pre-book any treatments prior to their arrival so we can guarantee space. Please accept my personally apology for any disappointment this caused. We have very strict cleaning protocols in place in the Hotel and in our Spa and I wish to assure you these spaces are religiously checked on an hourly basis. We will revisit these again though in light of your feedback and I wish to thank you for highlighting this anomaly to me. I am pleased you enjoyed your breakfast experience and delighted that you found our staff to be friendly and helpful. Thank you again for sharing your experience with us, there are a number of areas we need to and will address. Since re-opening in July after a lengthy closure period we, like many other business, have had our fair share of challenges and I wish to assure you that our number one priority, despite these challenges, is to deliver the same level of service and guest experiences that our customers have come to expect from us over the years. With apologies Frits Frits Potgieter, General Manager

My friend and I decided to treat ourselves to a 5 star experience and Muckross Park Hotel and Spa looked like the perfect place to stay. It may have been my mistake but I was expecting this hotel to have more scenic views unfortunately the outdoor areas on the hotel grounds were very limited with only a small patio looking onto a stream was all we could locate.
On arrival at 3.30pm we were told our room was not ready. However to apologise for this our room was upgraded to a suite. This was a nice gesture. We asked to get lunch while we waited and luckily there was room for us to grab something to eat as we hadn't booked or we were going to have sit in the car until our room was ready. There is nowhere that I could find to relax and sit to read a book etc.
I found the staff in the hotel very friendly and they went out of their way for us and no request was too big.
When our room was ready we were pleasantly surprised to find two bottles of complimentary wine along with a bottle of processo and chocolates. The room itself was spacious but outdated. The television channels were very limited. The bathroom was amazing with walk in shower and huge tub.
After a glass of wine we decided to enquiry about the complimentary bikes available to guests. The spaces were limited and the staff again were very helpful. The bikes were cleaned and sanitized before use. The bikes had seen better days. Very uncomfortable to use and I was disappointed we didn't spend the money to hire bikes locally. Unfortunately breakfast is by appointment and the only times available were at 8am. We were informed that we could get breakfast to the room for an extra charge of 8 euro charge which I would have no problem paying for if I didn't want to do take the trip to the restaurant however with only one time available I found this charge unfair. I would not be ordering any room service as it's not worth the room service charge. Over all the hotel is not worth the money they are looking for the only thing 5 star about the hotel is the staff.

Dear Guest Thank you for your feedback, your comments are important to us and so very valuable as we continue to evolve our service and the quality of our product. I am pleased to read you enjoyed the complimentary upgrade to one of our suites along with complimentary Prosecco and chocolates, our way of showing appreciation for your patience whilst waiting for your room. We do have a number of spaces in our lobby as well as external seating outside our Monk Lounge, Colgan’s Gastro Pub and also in our Atrium Gardens but I am sorry if you felt these spaces were not suitable for relaxation. Since the introduction of the 2-meter social distancing government guideline we have had to move to a reservation system for breakfast to ensure all our guests are guaranteed space, whilst staying socially distanced at all times. I am genuinely sorry that we were not able to accommodate your preferred time but please be assured this was necessary to ensure your safety. In light of your comment regarding making use of room service I have reviewed our room charge policy and I am grateful that you took the time to highlight this to me. Please accept my apology for your disappointment, we will look at the areas you highlighted and ensure we address those that will not affect our guest’s safety with the necessary sense of urgency. With apologies Frits Frits Potgieter, General Manager

We were very disappointed with our experience in Muckross. We had a suite and, given how incredibly expensive it was, we felt the service did not match the cost. We had booked bikes, which they attempted to charge us e10 for a kids one, first we were told about this charge was when we were handed the bikes and it was for a very small child and not suitable. They later took this off the bill when we challenged it. The concierge and the other support desk (not reception, who were very helpful) were not at all helpful and we felt like we were putting them out by asking for anything. We asked for water and they sent up a jug with no glasses, and asking for glasses seemed like a major inconvenience. The room itself was a great size but decor is very dated and worn. Breakfast was only OK, pastries were nice but hot food was average and service was fine. Mairead in reception were very helpful on check-in and subsequently she sent us clothes we had left behind in the wardrobe without any fuss, which was our only true 5-star experience from our stay. We didn't have dinner but we were refused a drink in the bar, only room service was permitted due to COVID restrictions. Enjoyed the bike ride through the park but would not stay here again when back in Killarney.

Dear Guest Thank you for your feedback, whilst I am so very sorry to read of your disappointment with your recent stay, I am grateful that we have an opportunity to learn from your experience and hopefully improve those gaps in our service you highlighted. We do offer bike hire for adults with our compliments but unfortunately are unable to offer the same service for children due to the extensive range of age groups and applicable bike sizes needed. This should absolutely have been communicated very clearly to you at the time and I will address this with my team. I fully take on board your comment regarding the Suite you stayed and I will assess this with our design team. I also take on board your comments regarding our concierge service and will discuss this with our services team, we pride ourselves on delivering exceptional customer service at every guest touch point and this was very disappointing for me to read, please accept my personal, unreserved apology. Unfortunately, we, like many other businesses, are simply following government guidance and rules and therefore cannot serve alcohol without food, we are only allowed to operate a restaurant service in our bars and we will continue to comply with these rules to ensure we keep our guests and staff safe during these very challenging times. Thank you again for your feedback, please be assured that me and my team take your comments seriously. With apologies Frits Frits Potgieter, General Manager

We booked for my husband’s birthday in February. We had a warm & friendly check-in & when we entered our room there was wine, chocolates & a birthday greeting. This was Storm Ciara weekend & I thought for a moment we were too far out from Killarney but it is less than 10 minutes by car.
Breakfast is scrumptious with an amazing choice – juices & smoothies, fruits & yoghurts, breads, continental & cooked. As we were off-peak we ordered our cooked breakfast from a menu selection but by the weekend it was buffet. My favourite was an oats, fruit & cream muesli which I was kindly given the recipe for…delish. The breakfast really does set you up for the whole day until dinner!
We visited Monk’s Lounge every night for sundowners & a nightcap, Major Colgan’s did not appear to be open.
ALL the staff who we came in contact with were lovely & helpful…
The Vitality Area & Thermal Suite is amazing, sheer bliss...an oasis of calm & healing, probably the best & is now my favourite of all the spas we have visited worldwide. Really enjoyed the outdoor hot tub, a white camelia was in full bloom, birds singing, the buddha & an everchanging sky. The organic spa product range is beautiful so I bought some candles & products…
The hotel bottles sparkling & still water on the premises, we really loved the sparkling & a request to have more & to have a bulb replaced in the bathroom were promptly dealt with.
We really enjoyed our stay in this very special place & are looking forward to our return...

My husband and I stayed in this beautiful hotel in mid March, covid was new for us all but the hotel were handling everything brilliantly. Hand sanitizers were subtly dotted around the hotel and we felt reassured about cleanliness, but never felt uncomfortable or anxious.
I didn't love the room we were allocated but the wonderful lady on reception organised an alternative for us. She went above and beyond to make sure we were happy, even showing me various rooms to choose from. This is what 5 star is all about - customer satisfaction!
We had a fabulous meal the first night of our stay in the Yew Tree restaurant. The colour and flavour were amazing. Staff might need to brush up on their wine knowledge, however.
We tried the bar for food the second night and it was a charming gastro pup. The food was simpler but equally delicious.
Unfortunately we didn't have time to try the Spa but I hope to be back again soon to check it out.
If you are looking for a luxury stay with the convenience of Killarney a few minutes drive in one direction and the beautiful mountains a few minutes away in the opposite direction I can't recommend this hotel highly enough. I cannot wait to return.

We made a return to Muckross Park Hotel last weekend for our first wedding anniversary.
We chose MPH as our wedding venue last year as it was unrivalled in so many ways, including the stunning venue itself & location, a generous wedding package, quality of service for price & one of the top reasons - the staff were the most accommodating & friendly staff we have ever met (from Bernie, Niall & Caroline for the wedding itself, to the staff in the various parts of the hotel, food service, concierge, bar, reception, spa).
Returning to the hotel this year, each member of staff ensured we were made to feel just as special as we did for our wedding itself, from organising a suite room for us, the prosecco & chocolates room welcome, to being treated to a beautiful anniversary meal at the Yew Tree restaurant.
It also made our stay to catch up with Niall & Bernie, who helped us organise our wedding. It was such a pleasant surprise to get so much of their time when we returned and enjoyed catching up with them - again to be surprised with prosecco and chocolates to celebrate our anniversary!
All of the little details are what makes Muckross Park Hotel feel so luxurious, and the staff are all such genuine & friendly people. We love everything about the hotel and are still reminiscing about our perfect wedding experience last year.
Thanks so much such a wonderful stay.

Lincoln, England, United Kingdom151 contributions49 helpful votesLooking at visiting next Autumn, but my wife has considerable issues with stairs. Can you advise me if there are lifts or easy access to all parts of the hotel please.
We have made the decision that in line with the introduction of Level 3 government guidelines, Muckross Park Hotel & Spa will close from the 7th October and reopen on Wednesday 28th October 2020. Following on from Government Guidelines regarding COVID -19 The impact on our team and our industry will be devastating, but our priority must remain the safety of all.
With the Covid-19 restrictions in place worldwide I doubt if there would be any American tourists in residence.
There are many paths around the hotel with places to sit. There is seating at the front of the hotel & a really nice area where the outdoor hot tub is leading down to the river which has sunbeds, tables & chairs & sheltered seating .
